This boeard lacks of a recomendation thread about this generes, so this thread goes for every hard rocker or glam metal fan or every user with good questions or discussions abouts bands like Motley Crue, Hanoi Rocks, Ratt, SkidRow, Cinderella, Dokken, Tesla...etc ,etc... Even bands like FireHouse, Damn Yankees and old Bon Jovi for Glam/pop. And for hard rock it wold include Old Schooled, Shock, Southner,Psychedelic, The woodstoc and so on (For putting some examples bands like Led Zeppeling, Deep Purple, The Doors, ZZ top, Chuck Berry, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Cult, Kiss, Alice Cooper, etc)... even some alternative bands... So make specific and inteligent posts and replies.

Since I get my hair cut a few months ago I started to get involved with some old schooled bands... I would like some recomendations about Jimmy Hendrix's works.., best albums or songs... Thanks in advance.

For Hendrix I'd recommend that you get a DVD of his performance at Woodstock.

cool thread, i know a fair whollop about this stuff so will be happy to recommend/help out here if anyone needs recs etc.

anyone who hasnt should hear german band BONFIRE/ CACUMEN (same band, different names) fucking excellent melodic heavy metal/hard rock. kinda like SCORPIONS. totally catchy, but with enough punch there to keep it heavy metal.

Can anyone suggest a good Best of/Compilation album(s) -(no LIVE album(s) please) by the following:-

AC/DC, The Who, The Doors and Led Zepplin...

Oh, and BTW, nice thread... :)

Also, any other band(s) suggestions are good too.

this album is impressive!!!!!!

definetely better than i thought it would be although, Vinnie has his obvious credentials, playing on some pretty glam KISS stuff. Invasion is solid with good songwriting, very sleazy lyrics, great guitar and plenty of high energy moments.

Thanks man :D

Well for AC/DC ...theres a 5 discs boxset compilation called Bonfire is a tribute to Bon Scott It came out in the 2003you can check more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonfire_(album)

For the who maybe The Ultimate Collection (The Who album) it has 2 discs btw, I own it and let me assure you that it's pretty complete  Also theres a 4 disc boxset compilation called `Thirty Years of Maximum R&B

For Zepp.. well almost all of their compilations are boxsets... Maybe you should get Mothership 2 disc compilation album that have some of their best song, Though for me is kind of incomplete 'cos it dosen't features Thank you one of my favorites ballads from them.

And for the doors you only need the single Cd The Very Best of The Doors (2007 album) (theres also a Double cd version)
So enjoy mate...

Oh and you MUST GET SONIC TEMPLE FROM THE CULT electric is also a good album but believe me it got its influences by almost all the bands you are looking for....

anyone looking for a great unknown 80's style melodci hard rock band? gonna go ahead and recommend a band called Zar. their first album, released in 1990 is an excellent power rock/melodic heavy metal effort with a feel like Dokken meets Europe. been rockin out to this one a fair bit, and will have a review up shortly.

will do. by the way, has anyone here heard of the Welsh (yes, Welsh) 80's Glam Metal act 'Tigertailz'? theyre pretty damn good. i was under the impression that the Brits didnt really do glam metal. ive only got about five bands which play it, and its more 'Hard Rock' e.g. BLACK ROSE, rather than the US style of Glam which is what one thinks of when hearing the term. Tigertailz has a very typical Glam sound though, better than WrathChild (NWOBHM/Glam Rock).

^ heaven? Warrant, anyone?

Yeah, Tigertailz is decent. the lack of British glam is interesting. Fuck Bonfire/Cacumen is fucking excellent. cant get them off rotation.

those interested in power/melodic metal/hard rock should check out "Heart of the Night" by them.

anyone care to offer any recs in the vein of Matakopas, TNT, Vyper?like melodic heavy metal with tonnes of energy that is at times simply great melodic hard rock?

^ yeah, i have METAL HEALTH. theres some good tracks on it. TYGERS is awesome, havent listened to them in a fair while though. priniting me a poster of the cover of their WILDCATS album cover (Sweet cover). Enjoy ZGirlschool, though i dont think their the best female NWOBHM act. Girlschool deserved the success they had in the 80s though. motley crue has been thrashed to the death. havent listened to them in ages. their best songs are shit like LIVE WIRE when they were still fast and energetic.

Hmm. What about AOR? or is that a little too much

For AOR I enjoy pretty much anything Steve Overland's been involved with. Obviously FM, Shadowman, and Overland spring to mind and if you go for that sort of thing I can whole-heartedly recommend it.

I recently got the new Vengeance album, Soul Collector. It's some pretty good Heavy Metal/Hard Rock that's certainly worth a look in. Also for Hard Rock I'm a big fan of the Russell Allen - Jorn Lande project.

Other really good Hard Rock/AOR stuff would include;

Crown of Thorns
Alias
H.E.A.T
Brother Firetribe
Stan Bush
Unruly Child
Sheriff
Michael Bormann
Signal
Heartland
Joe Lynn Turner
Danger Danger
Hardline
Tyketto
Burn
Firehouse
Jaded Heart
Marcello/Vestry

AOR can be great. i particularly like shit like Night Ranger, Giuffria, Fate (featuring hank shermann of MF) and the almighty CONEY HATCH! if anyone can recommend stuff thats similar to CONEY HATCH or NIGHT RANGER thatd be just fantastic.

i have FIREHOUSE, TYKETTO, DANGER DANGER. (Rock America, though...)

Night Ranger is fairly synonymous with Coney Hatch in my opinion. pretty funny how they reference 'ranger like 3 times at least on American Dad. Once when Roger and Stan are baked and theyre listening to it on the car stereo. if you want a song, theyre pretty well nkow for a ballad called "Sister Christian" or something, but i like their more energetic numbers like "Eddies Comin' out Tonight" etc. pretty great melodic hard rock.

^ i have pretty much his full catalogue and its full with great stuff. both from his early softer rock/pop stuff to his heavier/edgier 80s stuff. depends rrally. personally, i would just go from near the start. 'School's Out' is of course a classic, which showcases some of his more progressive elements and in depth songwriting, with horns, well thought out arrangements, and a good deal of variety throughout the album, but then again, his 80s stuff is pretty damn strong also. could be good to start with a 2 disc best of type collection?

Agreed.

Don't know if I'd start with it but "A Fistful of Alice" is good. It's a live album that has s lot of his better songs on it.
