Quote:
That Discharge album sounds quite good. It is more metallic then Anti Cimex. I find most of these bands generic. Discharge wipes the floor with most of these bands. It is an easy and fun style of drumming but genrally I find this music very lacking.

actually Discharge invented that beat. That is why its known as d-beat or sometimes dis-core.

And it is indeed generic sounding coz it takes a special kind of band to take it someplace special. Some bands did great like HHIG who dragged d-beat and crust screaming into grind/sludge hell and basically left the confines of those genres behind. Tragedy is like a watered down more boring / semi-melodic version of the same.

You should try the debut album from Acursed, who also did some good and enojyably individualistic stuff with d-beat. Also Extreme Noise Terror's Holocaust in Your Head and peel sessions are highly recommended. Then there is more generic but still fun stuff like Disgust and Disclose.

Anyone have recommendations for really overbearingly noisy, loud and fast Japanese D-Beat and Crasher Crust stuff?
Must have loads of noisy, absurdly fuzzed out guitar and no concept of dynamics... Just loud and trebly and pissed off-sounding...

And fast, too. Don't want slow stuff.

Have you heard of Damage Digital? They lean a bit towards grind though. Still worth checking out.

I have not, and I am liking what I hear, so thanks.

Yeah, it's not quite D-Beat, or even the weird "Crasher" Punk/Crust stuff that has absurdly distorted guitars and bouncy bass, but it's not bad either way.

Ah cool. I really couldn't find their crustier/d-beat songs on youtube so I linked whatever I could salvage online. I listen to a lot of japanese melodic hardcore/punk but if I come across something that specifically meets your requirements, I'll be sure to let you know.

for 80's style fuzz you cant go wrong with Crude SS.....and then there's Disclose, but they have substantial discog so you have to be wary of what you are getting

and if you wanna taker things a little faster than crust / de-beat there is the insanity that is G.I.S.M

I am familiar with those bands, but it's been a long time since I heard any Crude SS, I cannot even remember what they sound like, so I will check them out.

This isn't exactly what I had in mind (vocals are pretty relatively "calm" [why is it that so many Jap. vocalists sound like they are being cut in half? I don't know, but that's a big part of what I love about Japanese Crust/Grind/Punk stuff!], and it seems to have more in common with and older style of Japanese Hardcore with Motorhead-style riffs, not that there's anything wrong with that).

I haven't heard them before either way, so it's nice to know about them anyway. Thanks. It is loud and it is fast, so that's good.

If you prefer something vocally more powerful / aggressive then give S.O.B. a listen -

Well... if you don't know Syphilitic Vaginas this would be the perfect time to remedy that. My favorites are 梅毒マンコ (#2) and the Black Motor Covenant ep.

I'm also going to rec you Gas Chamber's s/t album. Noisy as fuck guitar and fast but with some excellent bass work and a few nice slow parts and even some noise type stuff which I think you'll dig. http://feebleminds.bandcamp.com/album/g ... ber-s-t-lp

I already know and love SxOxBx, but I've never checked out Syphilitic Vaginas, so I will do that.

Listening to Feeble Minds now.

Thanks.

EDIT: FM sounds cool... the vocals are very reminiscent to me of certain Life Is Abuse groups like Medication Time. Not bad.

Yeah man, they're a cool band, very unique sound that achieves a pretty wide range of styles while still managing to be harsh and pretty chaotic. Glad you dig em!

Thats right, ignore. :)
But try playing "15 counts of arson" and then play "darker days..".
The new album would be considered a very good album IF it was a new unknown band. But thye themselves set the bar too high with HHIG.

But you know what, each to his own. If the better produced more refined, slower and more melodic stuff gets your goat, so be it. cheers

Well yeah, 15 Counts of Arson probably is the better album, but I love both. The "better produced more refined, slower and more melodic stuff" certainly isn't my favourite vein of crust (they're calling it epic crust or something like that now, right?) Tragedy just do it so well. I guess I see where you're coming from when you call them watered down, but that phrase usually implies a weaker version with a lot of the heart taken out of it. I don't think they're trying to be as heavy or dirty as HHIG, and that's fine. But yeah, 15 Counts... is a great fucking album.

i actually do enjoy tragedy and similar bands occasionally but the 3 HHIG records (yes i love monuments to theives and plot sickens ... just as much) are timeless classics for me... they are on my all time top 10 HC records for sure (alongside stuff like Catharsis's Passion)

btw i dug your tale of how you discovered dystopia... the first time i heard the inro to human-garbage it raised the hair on my neck....one of the most scarring ugly and honest opening tracks ever. I heard it after I had become a square (married, kid, job, clean n sober ...just a fukin perfect little cog in the system) so it really hit home

That all depends, punk is an extremely wide genre... what kinds of other music do you like? What kind of metal?

Moslty death, black and war.
Black: Bathory, old Mayhem, Belketre, Basilisk, ...
Death: Autopsy, Incantation, Dead Congregation, Coffins, Ignivomous etc
War/bestial: Blasphemy, Sarcofago, Bestial Raids, Bestial Warlust, Bolt Thrower...
Doom: Cathedral, Cirith Ungol, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, Evoken etc
Thrash: Dark Angel, Slayer, Artillery, Sodom, ..
NWHBM: Savage, old Maiden, Blitzkrieg, WG, ...
new and old heavy metal (all old school sounding) and some grincore like repulsion.
non metal genres include Dark/Ritual Ambient, Jazz, Classical, Rock and Persian Traditional, Dead Can Dance, etc.

each genre has it's classics so what are some of the Punk's classic albums?

I would recommend UK82 type stuff if you like nwobhm. Stuff like GBH, Abrasive Wheels, or early English Dogs (they would go for a speed metal direction later)

http://www.uk82.com/bands/ for some more bands to dig through.

GBH: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1rYnIBB-lw

Abrasive Wheels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_xls53OOnU

English Dogs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJAmx14F73s

And for the fun of it this is what ED sounded like a couple years later: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_j4Lt2ZcAE
Well, I love everything ED have done from punk, to metal.

Hope that helped.
Cheers.

Mid to Late 80's UK punk is the best:
Axegrinder (Crust): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMsSvJB8IDc
Deviated Instinct (crust): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxVzbEyAGjI
Extreme Noise Terror/Chaos UK (crust punk): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TREGM62cqhU (Only good Chaos UK stuff in my opinion)
The Stupids (Fast punky thrash stuff): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJIiv1pbiG4
Heresy/Concrete Sox (Fast): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caJmgYOBf14
Sore Throat (noisegrind that rules): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggvkx8bWMFw

Finnish punk rules as well. Very unique styles:
Rattus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLy-RgQZeyQ
Riistetyt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV2jA8UQTfA
Tampere SS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHDvy2J5H44
Kaaos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXYqGyZOIps
Terveet Kadet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPyTAculslM

Essential US Bands:
Jerry's Kids (Boston Hardcore really fast): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saOtiQfAReY
Poison Idea (hardcore professionals): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=934i1K2Nghs
The Germs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS8EnsySWik
Negative FX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oglRBmOrbbs
Black Flag (one of the pioneers of hardcore punk): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POejsawMH9s
Dead Kennedy's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZzWcOYxCNQ ( I hate this band but an essential band)

If you like Direct Control, check out Government Warnings output. Some differences, but it has the same vocalist as DC and stays as fast for the majority of the two albums. Still need to check out the EPs though.

Soulseek is your best friend, especially for a lot of rare/OOP Punk, Crust and HC vinyl.
There's about 3 users that come up in just about every search for an old Punk 7" on there, and they are pretty much always online.

I personally prefer Soulseek NS over the newer SoulseekQT, BTW... You can download the old client on the Soulseek website if you're interested in trying it, but then maybe I just prefer the old client because I'm set in my ways... That said, looking at the slsk website, it looks like they've changed the new client so you can make it look more like the old one...

Dumb disclaimer for all the MA high horse-riders: I am only suggesting he download rare/OOP vinyl, so shut the fuck up.

Nice, thanks dontlivefastjustdie. These sound good and will be my on my next purchase list.

Really liking Bukkake Boy's stuff, killer band. While I was on their bandcamp page, I took a look at the rest of Sorrystates' output and came across the band Citizens Patrol, and all I can say is any fan of Direct Control, Government warning, or just ripping fast hardcore in that vein needs to check them out RIGHT NOW!

Dumb disclaimer for all the MA high horse-riders: I am only suggesting he download rare/OOP vinyl, so shut the fuck up.

a few years back I used to use slsk to pirate very rare albums but I almost had forgot about it.
thanks man :) for those finnish albums i've got no other choice.

One of my favorites from my (relative) youth, 1984:
NO TREND -- Too Many Humans (LP)
title track:

and: Mindless Little Insects

and their classic "hit," taken from the 12" ep:
Teen Love:

ps: these things never made it to cd

Received my copy of Satanic Threat yesterday and the replay value is through the roof. I hope this re-release gets them to record more stuff aside from their other projects.
