So how do you folks like this Northern Dutch black metal band?

I loved this! They remind me a lot of Gevurah vocally (see video I posted above).

Does anyone know any bands similar to
Sons of Fenris

Wod

or Ugulishi?

I'm also still looking for bands that sound similar to Obolus.

looking for modern black metal like Marduk's mid and later stuff, some modern melodic black or melodic black/death would be appreciated as well. I say modern because I'm not really in the mood for raw production

HomicidalBreath: Familiar with Valoton? I feel like I've recommended them too much here, but they seem to fit for a fair amount of requests. In terms of songwriting, I consider them to be far superior to Marduk.

Well, there is shit out there like black metal mixed with jazz, rock and roll, crust, post rock etc so I don't see why someone open minded wouldn't come up with such abomination.
I've seen White Stone off Maranatha described pejoratively as such. Oh and Plaga on new album has some raplike vocal flow. But of course none of these have anything to do with nu metal.

Szron

Latest album Death Camp Earth is really amazing (Zeal was disappointing), filled with honest hate for the human race. Unlike most of the misanthropy oriented BM, they make really good music that doesn't hide behind the 'atmospheric' style.

This is some fanmade slideshow that's really accurate for the music.

In this song, particularly the riff around 3 minute mark makes you feel like you're listening to Possessed's Exorcist for the first time.

there are 2 more songs, and 2 more leftover material that was released on split with Martwa Aura.

There are bands with that kind of elements. I'm sorry, I can't recall any names, but it is a thing, albeit a very minor one I think.

I remember that at one point some people called Mayhem's Chimera mallcore black metal.

^Ha. The Dimmu Borgir one got me.
But really, it was a genuine request. I was lsitening to this and the thought occurred me that such a mix would sound good. (Yeah, I know, this is more like death metal with alternative rock though...)
I've heard Mayhem's Chimera and the Plaga's material, but not what I was looking for, unfortunately. \=

Sorry dude, I couldn't help myself. I don't know. I've tried doing some research, but I couldn't find anything. I think the only chance you'll get is by sifting through the endless waves of post/experimental black metal bands out there, although most of the bands who play in that style usually stick to a more ambient and post-rock style. Sorry I'm not much help.

Looking for stuff like Nattfog:

Basically, raw, atmospheric BM in the Burzum tradition with memorable melodies, thick atmosphere and a real aura of melancholy and darkness. I'm not looking for melodies alone, but really the whole mood that Nattfog delivers. Bonus points if there's an ambient or dungeon synth track on there as well, I love it when ambient BM bands do that.

Also, while I know it's ironic to ask this given the black suns on the cover and the split with Nekrokrist SS, I'd request you keep suggested bands apolitical if possible. And yes, I've heard the pre-Nattfog project Norns.

Thanks!

Try Grifteskymfning or Battle Dagorath.

I'm looking for obscure black metal in the vein of this:

Atmospheric, hypnotic, a bit Urfaust-ish passages. No Satanic/evil/kvlt lyrics. Rather folktale/stories of the old.

Back again for a picky request. I seem to drop by every two weeks, he he.

So, I'm really really picky when it comes to symphonic black. I like Emperor, Sirius' debut and Odium; and that's about it. I have heard more than that, it's just that nothing seems to spike my interest. Stuff like Limbonic Art is too theatrical and over-the-top for me, modern stuff like Carach Angren I just find an utter disgrace (I've heard their latest several times and it sounds like Nightwish being played through a BM filter, really...), Obtained Enslavement or Troll I was never able to properly enjoy, and stuff like COF or Dimmu just goes in one ear and out of the other.

Basically I've searched for some time for more symphonic black and all I get is either too theatrical or too raw. That's why I like the three bands I listed above, because of how they manage to strike a balance between aggression and melody, rawness and warmth, guitar oriented and keyboard driven passages. Know what I mean? Odium and Sirius are actually a perfect match, and more stuff that captures a similar balance as those two (and the obvious first couple of Emperor albums as well) manage to do would be great. Note that I'm asking specifically for symphonic black, not "just" black metal with some symphonic elements. I want keys in my black!

Anything out there for me? ;)

I generally have the same feelings about keyboards in black metal. Two bands that immediately come to mind are False and Wodensthrone. Might not be symphonic enough for your tastes, but the keys are definitely a driving force behind the music.

False is so so, although it has some nice details here and there, while Wodensthrone is enjoyable for a while. Both share some similar traits in terms of songwriting, and I understand what you mean by saying that the keys are a driving force. Yet they're buried in the mix and work more as a background layer to add to the atmosphere. The guitars are what's driving the songs forward in here, not that that's a bad thing but it's not what I'm looking for. This is more like atmoblack and I really wanted something upfront symphonic.

Thanks for the effort though.

Besides, I would like the good old harsh vocals also =P

Thanks for the recs! As far as how I feel:

Förgjord: I know/like Förgjord, though I haven't heard their second album. A bit more aggressive than what I'm looking for but still good.

Grifteskymfning: Very good stuff which I will be digging into, but not what I'm looking for here. Again, a bit too aggressive.

Battle Dagorath: Again, good, and I liked the slower tempo parts but feels closer to like, Paysage d'Hiver than Nattfog.

Evil: Pretty good, but aren't they NS?

Morthond: Much closer to what I'm looking for, though I think I'd like something more mid-tempo. Still, I dig it.

Unhuman Disease: The more midtempo parts of this really get at what I want. Overall I dig it.

Moonkult: Not really a fan of these guys, sorry!

Anyway, I think I'd have to say more mid-tempo might be what I'm looking for? Regardless, I enjoy some of these bands quite a bit.

Evil is not NS as far as I know. Lyrical themes: Paganism, Nietzschean, War

Try some (later) Aboriorth & Zwartplaag, also maybe Blodulv and Inferi (Fin). I can't really pick out songs at the moment since I'm on a laptop with speakers that just make everything sound like fuzz and I left my headphones at home. Edit: Assuming you already know of Blood Red Fog

Not really, they're kind of hit and miss for me. I've given Barbaric Is The Beast a few shots, and while I do find enjoyment in some of the sections the big picture doesn't do much for me.

I would say yes. Andacht is rather polished and more modern sounding. Their earlier works are more raw and ghostly, Zyklus being my favorite but also Elixer of Sorrow is very good. I am not too familiar with their output before Elixer.. but I am sure others here could give an apt description.
