Hate Forest's Scythia demo has a bit of this. Hard to actually tell if they're distorted or not due to the production quality, but they definitely sound like it when compared to their later stuff.

I'm looking for non-satanic black metal bands. I would prefer Melodic/Symphonic and regular black metal. None of that NSBM either, nor Unblack/White Metal. Just black metal bands that sing about anything else. For reference i'm looking for bands like Duskmourn, Vallendusk, Stormlord, Xanthochroid, Sworn, Iskald, Bal-Sagoth, Carach Angren. So anything like those bands, singing about norse mythology, nature, HP Lovecraft, etc. Just anything that isn't satanic but still black metal.

Lunar Aurora and Nasheim are some of my biggest favourites. The Ruins of Beverast as well, but they're not very much black metal musically.

Would Immortal be considered non-satanic black metal?

Can someone recommend me some black metal like Watain's Lawless Darkness? Watain seems to get a lot of hate but I really like the riffs they use on this album (it's also present on some of their other albums but not pulled off quite as well IMO). I want to say it's kind of punk-y? I'm having trouble putting my finger on what it is exactly but I think it's often a slightly slower pace with the power chords (letting them ring out more) + churning, abrasive but not dissonant melodies. More than anything though it's just a certain feel.

Looks like nobody responded to you yet, but I'm permanently in search of Branikald and Forest-style music. I'd also like any recommendations anyone has.

I would guess you probably already know Walknut and maybe Ygg, both of which are good and reminiscent of BBH.

From the US, my absolute favorite is Sanguine Eagle and their Individuation demo. Really incredible music. There's also Lascowiec who seem to be even more directly influenced by BBH. They have a ton of releases and from what I've heard, the quality varies a bit. I like their Asgard Mysteries compilation and Unbroken Spirit. You might find something you like in there.

The MOST similar-to-Darkspace band would be Paysage d'Hiver, which is another project from the same musician. So this might be an obvious recommendation, but if you haven't heard any of his work you should check it out. My favorites are Winterkalte and Das Tor but he has a lot of albums and I haven't worked my way through all of them. Some of his albums are completely ambient non-metal pieces, which is not usually what I'm looking for but I enjoy them when I'm in the mood.

I'm looking for stuff like Wigrid, both the ambient and metal songs. I've been checking out some dungeon synth and ambient black metal type stuff, but haven't quite found what I'm looking for. A lot of the ambient black metal is still too aggressive or just not dark/depressing/relaxing enough.

It's not bad overall though I'm not a huge a fan of the vocals. High-pitched growls rarely work for me. (The vocals issue pretty much ruined The Body for me, which is a band I really wanted to like cause I dig their aesthetic.)

Its not the easiest thing to track down, but First Journey, by Widder from Holland. It has that ambient black metal sound you are looking for. I got the cassette from a label called Heidens Hart located in Holland. Really good stuff!

I've checked out Trist before, but it's been awhile and I've seen Nyktalgia, but haven't listened much. Trist has a nice sized discography despite being split up.

I guess something that has a epic viking, pagan vibe. Graveland's Following The Voice Of Blood comes to my mind. It's been a while since I listened to Ygg but I do remember the band not having any folk elements to my understanding. However, it's been a year of two since I've heard Ygg's album so you're probably right.

Huh, the folk/symphonic elements are what gave Nokturnal Mortum and the other Ukranian pagan black metal acts like Khors, Kroda, and Munruthel their charm though.

Maybe try Havukruunu from Finland? Sorta like faster Moonsorrow minus the keyboards.

Bit of a silly request here, but I'm looking for any bm albums that are aesthetically centered around spring/summertime/green nature - it doesn't even have to be explicitly 'about' these things lyrically or whatever, just albums that capture the feeling of being alone in the woods to you or songs that bring to mind an ocean shore or late night thundershowers, the same way so much black metal is aesthetically obsessed with invoking winter. Spite Extreme Wing's last album Vltra always gave me a warm, meditative, summer-y kind of feeling.

Hey one more request guys because I have basicbitch black metal taste....I am in dire need of good, obscure black metal albums that are simultaneously atmospheric and raw as hell.Specifically, something with absolutely zero keyboards and as little acoustics/ambience as possible - but still captures that meditative, otherworldly mood without sacrificing brutality or intensity. Lofi and shitty production jobs are ok by me. One-man albums even better. The closest stuff I can think of to this would be the sounds of Erraunt, Witch In Her Tomb, Forest, Horrid Cross, Orgy of Carrion, etc. sorry to blow this thread up with requests :/
