Does anybody know any other bands like Wold? I'm looking for one or more of the following:
  • At least some degree of melody, however I'd prefer if it sounded relatively "off" at the same time
  • A noticeably abstract/"outsider" vibe, bonus points for an aesthetic that's "out there"/disconnected from BM tropes
  • As raw as possible, harsh noise influences more than welcome
Basically, as close to this as possible:

EDIT: Also, the last page of this thread inspired me to finally check out that Vemod demo and it is fucking amazing. I wasn't expecting it to be so soothing.

I have a hard time finding bands that I enjoy. Not so much to find albums/songs that I love. I love 1st wave and a lot of the modern more experimental things. And I don't enjoy raw production or atmospheric bands. I like most or what Mayhem Marduk and Inquisition does and also early Bethlehem and Samael. Also, evil and crazy as fuck. Any suggestions?

If I knew how to link youtube I would link a few examples....

I will throw one out here Burial to see if it is along the lines of what you are looking for. Try Sorcier Des Glaces "The Puressence of Primitive Forests". An excellent release that harks back to the 1990's scene, has a nice evil vibe and atmosphere.

Not really what Im looking for. That static/white noise sound really turns me off and its in a lot of BM.

I will try to link a few songs so maybe you can get the idea....

And Id like vocals mainly in English and not typical BM style.

Inferno Requiem sounds almost exactly like what you want. Less noisy, but trebly as fuck with slightly off melodies and some of the strangest drumming I've heard in BM.

Ahh, damn, I forgot about this. I need to check this thread more often!

But yes, for a few similar bands, albeit some not as sonically massive, check out:

Aquilus

Spoiler: show

ColdWorld

Spoiler: show

Drama (Rus)

Spoiler: show

(The individual track isn't available on youtube, but the full album is, so check out what I think is the best track at 6:46, called Darkwoods' Embrace)

Grimoire

Spoiler: show

Walknut

Spoiler: show

Wędrujący Wiatr

Spoiler: show

That should keep you going for a while.

It takes some effort to initially put the record on, but Henbane may actually be as good as everyone said.

Vintage Black Magic is the highlight for me so far. Those jaunty tribalish toms at the very beginning! My Satan that's lovely.

I checked out a track; while it's certainly kind of weird, it's not exactly as weird as I was hoping for. The drumming was odd, but overall it still felt relatively coherent and solid musically.

I want some totally off-the-wall weirdness, except not like some sort of intentional avant-garde composition. I want weird from the other side of the fence - autistic, naive, outsider, sheltered stuff. The kind of black metal where you hear it and your immediate question is whether or not the artists involved have actually ever heard black metal before.

I'm looking for black metal in the vein of this track:

I'm looking for something similar to Ygg's debut album and Forest's Like A Blaze Above The Ashes. I don't mind if it's raw but I'm looking for melody.

looking for black metal with lyrics about depression. like this one

Blodsgard - Svart Blod Flyter

Spoiler: show
VIII. SVART BLOD FLYTER

Tomhet, apati og fornedrelse
Det finnes ingen utvei
Fra selvhatets klør
Ingen utvei
Det finnes ingen utvei

Hver eneste dag er uten mening
Uten innhold
Alt føles som harde slag
Gang på gang

Tanken på å leve
Er for mye å bære
Puster skitten luft
Svart blod som flyter

Den svarte skyggen
er rester av mitt liv

Veggen kommer nære
Alle dører er stengt
Det finnes ingen utvei
Ingen medisiner

Jeg orker ikke mer
Det finnes ingen utvei

Jeg strammer løkken rundt halsen
På eget initiativ
Låser hjertet i tungsindighet
Det finnes ingen utvei

Vender ryggen mot verden
Til krig mot meg selv
Jeg svelger et ord
Du aldri får høre

Rester av mitt liv
Mine tårer størkner

VIII. BLACK BLOOD FLOWS

Emptiness, apathy and humiliation
There is no escape
From the claws of self-hatred
No escape
There is no escape

Every day is without meaning
Without content
Everything feels like hard punches
Time after time

The thought of living
Is too much to handle
Breathing polluted air
Black blood is flowing

This black shadow
Is the only remains of my life

The wall is coming closer
All doors are shut
There is no escape
No medications

I can’t stand anymore
There is no escape

I tie the noose around my neck
On my own initiative
Lock my heart in gloom
There is no escape

Turning my back against the world
At war with myself
I swallow a word
You will never hear

Remains of my life
My tears coagulate

it is at least mildly comforting.. bonus points if they are Norwegian lyrics but not necessary.

Svikt. To be honest, I do not have the lyrics for it, but the lyrical themes as described on the band page, as well as the song titles, would suggest similarity with Blodsgard. What's more, it's essentially a parallel band musically, geographically and temporally, albeit with even more musical excellence.

Great sounding band but I can't find the lyrics anywhere. Going in my playlist though so thanks, luckily they are on Spotify.

I'm looking for black metal that is not driven by blast-beats and has a rock 'n' roll and punky edge to it.

Gorgoroth and Carpathian Forest are good examples. Notice how a lot of their songs just sound like standard rock music with evil lyrics and harsher production.

This is an example of what I'm NOT looking for. The riffs are more atmospheric, and not rock-y in nature. Oh, and the drumming is just taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap all the way through.

I find that black metal can go two ways. Dark, atmospheric, and blast-beat reliant... and another that is le

Craft, absolutely. Many of their songs have blast beats, but I think they are progressively slower on each album, and only a portion of the music adheres to the rhythm of those beats. More often than not, where blast beats are apparent, the riffs keep to their own, inherent groove instead of being led by the beats. Many groovier beats are implemented, and the riffs are particularly rocking in terms of rhythm and syncopation, though completely black metal oriented in terms of melody and mood.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread since an a band identification question rather than rec, but there's a well known black metal band that anybody frequenting this thread would know about whose name I can't recall.
They're this symphonic black metal band with a bit of power metal leanings that initially had your standard medieval/fantasy black metal lyrics, and later on started having sci-fi themes. Can't remember anything else about them, but they are fairly well known, so whatever the most obvious answer is is probably it.

Looking for bands and/or stuffs with raw and melodic sound at the same time in the same vein like Throne Below and Kanashimi. Also, if necessary, no DSBM stuff, please. I don't really like many of the bands (except for Kanashimi, it has a quite brilliantly beautiful sound).

Imperium Dekadenz has an anthem like feel on some of their tracks, instrument wise they probably have a warmer feel than MGLA but still may enjoy.

I don't genuinely know either band, but based on what I checked from Youtube, the bands seem quite different from each other. Perhaps Winter Eternal by Throne Below is vaguely similar to the other band, but the newer album didn't seem to have much anything in common with Kanashimi.

Arvet is probably more similar to the Japanese band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pApDBClxRVk
And have you heard Sargeist? It's faster and more violent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TreMlsqJ2Oo

Thanks for the effort! I wasn't familiar with Membaris, so i'll definitely dig into that! By the way, I bumped into this band. Goddamnit, this is great:

Rockish:

Khold Unfortunately one of the only bands I know that gets that satisfying rock n'roll back beat to match black metal well. People might suggest Kvelertak, but those people are stupid.

Newer Satyricon, some of which is pretty good (Volcano) and the rest being awful. This first track's super rocky

As for punky black metal there's some real harsh and simple stuff like Bone Awl and Ildjarn, but it doesn't sound like you're after that.

Abyssgale This should be exactly what you're after. punky beats with power chords to match.

@MutantClannfear: I can't recommend something quite as extreme as Wold, but I'll tell you this. I decided to check out Wold after getting really hooked on S.V.E.S.T. - Urfaust. It's a really noisy, fucked up black metal record that does fall into many of the issues you didn't want, especially the satanic aesthetic. Anyway they did something with the tape of this that makes everything sound really weird, and it takes patience to hear what is going on. So my point is, after listening to this album a lot, I wanted something more noisy and inaccessible, and I found Wold. So check it out. Their other shit is great too, but it's much easier on the ear, though still raw.

I am familiar with quite a lot of black metal, writing for a magazine. I'm looking for black metal that is along the lines of these tracks:

Harmonic, maybe slightly folky or pagan-esque riffing. Listen and know what I mean. Thanks in advance.

^ Well you have good taste, I think that is possibly my favorite Drudkh song ever, and it's not easy to top anything from Taake's Nattestid. That unpronounceable band may be worth checking out further.

Perhaps you haven't heard of at least 1 of these?
Aldaaron: I have one album by these guys and I think they're great, really need to listen to them more:

Lux Serpent of Eden: From Thailand, 1 man band, near impossible to get any of their stuff, but I'd be surprised if you know them already :)

Edit: You've probably heard of Plaga, but I just recently started listening to them, pretty good stuff:

The three albums you posted I myself quite enjoy though I must admit not paying enough attention to the second when it was released. Anyway, regarding the first two videos you should find Winterfylleth to be quite similar, a bit cleaner production yes but and excellent release regardless -

Also, Waldgefluster are an overlooked gem that might appeal to you -

And if you guys do not my some keyboards to help build the atmosphere I recommend you try Man O'Moon Faces a spin, groovy name!
