I've been getting into a lot of the post metal/rock scene and wondered if anyone knew any other good atmospheric/experimental metal type bands.

First to mind was English band Bossk. Essential if you like the post-metal scene. They only put out a demo and an EP before they split-up, but they're both magnificent. More akin to Isis than the other two.

If you like Cult of Luna, you may like Giant (though they've recently changed their name to Braveyoung). Their debut album is very, very solid.

Check out Year of No Light. Their new album is monstrous, and unlike their first album, completely instrumental.

Try the newest Buried Inside album: Spoils of Failure. They don't get mentioned here very much, but that album took me by storm last year. Also if you like Cult of Luna you should check out Callisto, who are pretty much a Cult of Luna clone.

Mouth of the Architect are pretty cool too. They do a lot of the duel vocals that Neurosis did in their mid period.

Fall of Efrafa are an amazing band, one of my favorites ever. Check them out. Really heavy, atmospheric post-rock with hardcore punk influences.

Also, Godspeed You! Black Emperor is pretty essential. God is an Astronaut is also very good, but has a lot more structure. Also, check out Russian Circles.

Rosetta's another really good post-metal band with a space theme that fits their sound perfectly.

Kongh (Like early isis, but more stonery. Some strange ethereal jazzy stuff thrown in, too. From Sweden.)

Bongripper (Instrumental doom. Lots of shoegazey parts)

Orthodox (Amanecer en Puerta Oscura is the album you should get. Great experimental doom)

Earth (Start with the more recent stuff and work your way back. Hope you already know them)

Some crack-smokin' replies in this thread. GY!BE, really?

Anyway, check out related projects A Storm of Light and possibly Old Man Gloom. OMG are like Isis put through a centrifuge; instead of mixing together the calmer ambient/post-rock bits with the Neurosis worship and modern hardcore, they instead have distinctly ambient tracks alongside incredibly aggressive ones. Maybe also check out Minsk, though they've got a decidedly more stoner sound to them.

In the OP he asked for atmospheric/experimental metal. While Slint are pretty awesome, they don't really fit that description.

Post metal/rock - both bands are post-rock
Experimental and atmospheric - both bands are pretty much the definition of this

Still don't see the problem.

Because neither of the bands you mentioned sounds ANYTHING like those listed in the thread title? If I started a thread that asked for atmospheric black metal like Darkspace, would you recommend a Boards of Canada album because it's also atmospheric?

Why ask for "post"-anything and then restrict yourself to stuff that sounds like a certain band? Anyone who knows anything knows that post-rock/metal isn't about a particular sound. Postrock challenges established rock styles and forms. This thread is a paradox which ends up being totally anti-postrock.

Post-rock isn't about anything. I have no clue where you got that idea. Are you trying to say that the OP is wrong to use the words "post-rock" or "post-metal" and then to specify bands in the genre(s) that he's into? Whatever nonsensical fairy tales you might believe about the artistic goals the genre supposedly has, there's a definite "post-rock sound" and "post-metal sound," sorry.
