I'm looking for some fast, unrelenting death metal. Something like Decapitated, Aeon, or Hour of Penance. Can be technical but not necessary. Not really into breakdowns. Preferably a lesser-known band. Thanks for any help.

How about some Sotajumala? Not obscure at all, but less known than the bands you mentioned at any rate.

@Dragmire: I hope you're referring to Sauron's era of Decapitated. Have you checked out his band called Masachist? Not sure if it's too obvious an mention.

Also, Sotajumala rules!

Anyone here a fan of Funereal? I don't understand why they're labeled as a doom/death metal band. They're straight up death metal that reminds me of 90's Morbid Angel. They're definitely not the most outstanding death metal band out there but what they play, they do well enough.

Judging by that one song, it's death metal alright. The name sounds awfully familiar but thanks colin, will check them out in more detail.

Isn't that band/album just Cianide rehashed? I know I listened to it sometime during last year or the one before, and it was alright but pretty much unspectacular. Do take in consideration that Cianide does nothing for me though.

The mighty Skinless came to mind first on hearing that sample. Vocals are guttural like Sarcophagy but slightly more dynamic and music wise I feel it could be down your alley. 'Trample the weak, hurdle the dead' is almost essential (brutal) death metal.

Recently I've listened to the new album of September Murder, He Who Invokes Decadence. The album is amazing, but I'm not sure if they're using some progressive or technical elements. Can someone tell me what they're playing and reccomend me bands or albuns similar to this one pls? Also a review would be awesome... Here's the full album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6ZV0vazqjo

So what are some songs like the face of my innocence by Arsis? I heard this at the end of their set at a show and I was blown away by the riffs in it, it almost reminded me of withered. What are some other death metal (not melodic death metal)songs that have that sorrow/ grief sound? Here's the song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHC9w7pCIMQ

Any suggestions for bands who do the Krisun/Hate Eternal intensity thing well? Dysncarnate is one recent find I enjoyed, Hate Eternal style blasting sections with Dying Fetus grooves.

Need a couple recs. First, I've only heard Grave's debut and liked it a lot, how is the rest of their material compared to it?

Then, what is a good starting album to get into Vader? Are they pure death metal or do they have thrash elements like I've heard they do?

Grave: Generally weaker, although I'd probably say that You'll Never See ranks slightly higher than Into The Grave in my book. The rest is kind of hit and miss, and if you're not into groove then you should avoid Soulless and Hating Life. Their last streak of albums since 2006 have been somewhat well received though.

Vader: They've always been a thrashier version of death metal, although the exact amount of each ingredient has varied through the years. I usually say they're like Slayer (think Reign In Blood era) playing death metal, so you know very much where you're heading into. I'd personally recommend three albums for starters, from different times in their career. Those being De Profundis, Litany and Impressions In Blood. I really like Revelations as well, but that one can go into the checklist later. ;)

Vader has always been a personal favorite of mine for quite a long time. Apart from what androdion already mentioned, you can also check out their latest 'Welcome to the Morbid Reich'. It's surprisingly very good, which is great for them coz the other recent albums didn't click that well. I'd say start with 'De Profundis' (Vader essential), then check out 'Welcome to the Morbid Reich', maybe Impressions and then go to Litany. Litany has been a hit and miss with many fans even though it's supremely hard hitting. The reason is that you may or may not enjoy the drum sound on the album. I personally love them and it doesn't take away one bit from the intensity. Also, if you're up for it and enjoy a slight modern death metal vibe, you could also listen to the EP 'The Art of War'. Some good groovy songs on that EP.

I'd say for Vader, start with XXV, which is a "greatest hits" album, but they're all rerecorded. I don't think theyve ever made a bad album.

So Grave Upheaval's album is suppose to come out soon and it's called...Untitled? :nono:

I can't wait to hear it though. Their demo was killer material.

"...and Here I Die... Satisfied" is a must have! Simple as that.
"Soulless" is questionable, "Hating Life" is plain bad. The rest of their albums are solid.

Start from the beginning and just get them all! They are pure death metal, with some thrash(ing) riffs. They are in my top 5 favourite death metal bands, and I don't even like thrash.
Note that the album "XXV" is re-arranged re-recordings of older songs.

So I'm looking to get a good introduction to Technical Death Metal. So far I've found only Suffocation which I'm really starting to enjoy, so my question is basically "Where do I go from here?".

I'd like something that has recognisable thrash elements in there, vocals which are quite intelligable and also complex. What bands would everyone here recommend?

Recommend me some newer melodic death metal bands. You know bands actually worth mentioning. I dont mind some Gothenburg or some American style just as long as it doesn't have too much ''core''.

Go listen to Gorement's The Ending Quest for Old School Swedish Death Metal Perfection, and no its not another Entombed or Dismember clone thankfully.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFGZRSCZam8

Fantastic Vocals and they actually care about the Bass getting some attention, great! Interestingly, their style reminds me of a blend between Finnish and Swedish Death Metal and they sound fucking amazing.

OSDM is best.

The closest I can come to this is either Nokturnel or Aurora Borealis. Those bands sort of veer between subgenres, however.

What's bothering me is that I'm certain I've heard a vocalist exactly like the example, I just can't recall whom. Probably not a death metal band, in any case. Maybe a black or thrash one.

Yeah ive known of them for a while now. Solid band but sorta inconsistent. The S/T was sweet though. But yeah no im looking for heavier bands though, ones that still keep the ''death metal'' in melodic death metal. EXAMPLES: TBDM, Dark Sermon, At the Gates, Man Must Die

Having never checked out Gorement I was really hoping that was the actual album name, and not unnecessary genre capitalization.
