Hi folks. As the title suggests I'm looking for metal that shows an influence of Philip Glass. I'm a big fan of his score for Koyaanisqatsi and would be interested in hearing something exploring similar ideas in a metal context.

Huge PG fan here, especially his earlier material. I've always wanted to record a doom version of that opening section of Koyaanisqatsi.

Anyway, I made a similar thread a few years back, have a browse through some of the recs in there:

In addition to the stuff in that thread, I'll also throw in this album by Orthrelm. It's extremely hard work, but it kind of fits the bill.

Philip Glass is a stated large influence of Victory over the Sun.

I don't know Philip Glass' work, I've just found it out. But, listening to the opening section of this specific album I at once thought of Echthros' 1400, an album I've bought to the artist when it came out and that I've been spinning once in a while through sleepless nights.

This album conveys the same shamanic, hypnotic vibes conducted by a deep male voice. It's thrilling imo. The rest of PG's album doesn't reflect in this, to be honest. I'll add that calling Echthros a Metal band is a stretch, but it's filled with droning riffs nonetheless.

Maybe, the meeting of Ulver and Sunno))) on the album Terrestrials also owes quite a bit of its avantgarde boldness to PG... You'll tell me; it is a very fine experience that's worth any curious person's time.

Thanks for the recs all. Sorry I've been slow in getting back to yas.

Balbulus: I'll have a look through that thread, thanks. Orthrelm aren't really doing it for me emotionally but they're interesting for how deconstructed their music sounds. It's almost like a cd skipping. Ha! They remind me a bit of Krallice.

Mutantclannfear: I'm not hearing much of Glass in Victory over the Sun but if she claims him as an influence then she's probably right. Not my cup of tea but cheers all the same.

Morphine: I can definitely hear some Glass in this Ulver/SunnO))) collab, in the stacato brass notes, very cool! And I enjoyed Echthros too though I hear less Glass there. Thanks again!

There's also the opening song of Magi re123, on Badmoodman, that could reminds of PG....

now, if you use 'Philip Glass' as a tag on BC, you get plenty of stuff:
