I considerably enjoy technical and experimental death metal. I absolutely love bands like Pyrrhon, Gorguts, Sunless on the experimental Avant-Garde front, and on the more traditional tech death front, I love bands Like Death, Atheist, Archspire, Cryptopsy, etc. I wonder if anyone can recommend me some cool stuff. I have no problem with somewhat noodly tech death, but I prefer songwriting to be prioritized over noodling. (you know, actual good riffs) I am not a fan of experimental black metal and would prefer more riff focused Avant-Garde stuff closer to death metal, kind of like Gorguts.

anata is as good as it gets, in case you don't know them yet

anyway, this is a pretty broad subject, but just to off load a few bands from a slightly drunk brain... hieronymus bosch, neuraxis, ulcerate, diskord, decrepit birth, deivos, gorod, quo vadis...

You absolutely need to listen to Pavor's "Furioso" album, amazing tech death.

Killer recs so far everyone. Seconding Anata and Pavor.

OP should do well to check out Crimson Massacre's The Luster of Pandemonium.

There is nothing remotely like this in the current tech-death landscape. An absolutely overwhelming, and hellish experience that needs to be rediscovered and re-appraised.

Probably not as riff-based as you are looking for, but I think you might enjoy some Anomalous. They are pretty experimental (to me at least). :D

Thirding Pavor, great balance between riffing and noodling.

Lately i've been impressed by Sickening Horror's Dead End Experiment, great off-kilter atmosphere and wicked riffs

Martyr's Warp Zone is an exciting riffstorm with focused songwriting, give it a shot :)

Absorbed! Oldschool tech death in the vein of Gorguts, and Atheist.

Carnality is more modern and very riff-based tech death.

Capharnaum is another killer oldschool tech death outfit.

Fractured Insanity is another riff-based modern tech death band. Not sure if you are into the tech brutal death scene though.

Necrotic Mutation is riffy oldschool tech death.

Psypheria is modern tech death, but not overly modern sounding, and they have some noodling, but it is primarily very riff focused so I think you will like them,

Serdce is very progressive sounding. They are from Belarus and have lots of odd time signatures.

Violent Dirge is another oldschool tech death band. Released a couple albums in the early-mid 90s. Excellent stuff, and along the lines of Atheist, Cynic, Gorguts and the likes

Another thing: The first songs of Fleshgod Apocalypse is pretty nice Tech Death, before they changed to Symphonic Death Metal / added the orchestra to their music
