Anyone know of any bands that sound like a heavier Thin Lizzy? Any epic/heavy metal with a strong irish folk influence will do perfectly.

You could look to the less metal side and check out some irish/english folk rock like fairport convention or the horslips.

Newer hard rock /heavy metal wise check out Dead Lord and Slough Feg

I've heard of Horselips but never checked them out. Will do now.

Slough Feg actually inspired this post funnily enough. I'll be sure to check Dead Lord and Fairport too.

Appreciated guys. I'll check them both out. Any recommended starting point with Bible of the Devil?

Well I adore T'in Lizzy, and while Phil Lynott was a unique talent that made for a unique band, I feel (and this is quite personal) the modern heavy bands (except the obvious Iron Maiden and other NWoBHM successors) that sound most like them in twin-guitar attack are Running Wild (peak: Blazon Stone, with some nice Celtic feel on some songs) and late Carcass (Surgical Steel - okay, not Celtic but still a British-Isles feel).

The thing that makes Lizzy incomparable is the twin rhythm creativity. It's amazing in their golden period (Fighting to Black Rose, although I do love every album Phil put out) how the two guitars voice the riffs so differently. Not really come across that in a modern metal band - but I'm open to suggestions too!

I would suggest starting with "Freedom Metal". The 2 albums before that are very good also.

Gygax was an awesome local band that sounds like a continuation of Lizzy's heavier/metal side. No idea why the reviews on here are so lackluster. Really love this song.

They doesn't sound entirely like Thin Lizzy, but still a fine tribute.

I gotta say Gygax has an amazing sound! Always loved songs with woman's name

The Fairport Convention rec is clever, they are awesome. Especially with Sandy Denny on vocals. If you dig that you might also like Steeleye Span or Pentagle.

I would also try Wishbone Ash, one of the other original twin lead guitar bands. The album Argus was a massive inspiration for Iron Maiden.

Going in the complete opposite direction, Solstice play epic/heavy metal with strong emphasis on melodies lifted from British folk. The new stuff in particular, check out "Deaths Crown is Victory" and "White Horse Hill".
