So I've been exploring the roots of different styles of metal in different countries and both Italy and Brazil have some great stuff from early on, especially the 80s and Italy even goes a little bit into the late 70s like with Death SS.

Both countries seemed to span extreme genres in the 80s.

For black and Doom and black/death Italy had: Death SS, Schizo, Necrodeath, Mondocane, Ghostrider, Mortuary Drape and many others, but they seemed to go a lot more into the black, doom and thrash genres than Death or Grind.

For death/black/thrash Brazil had: Sarcofago, Bulldozer, Mutilator, Holocausto, Vulcano and of course Sepultura and plenty of others but also didn't seem to have much grind core.

Brazil totally has early death, black and thrash covered, I'd say there seem to be more examples of 80s Brazilian death than straight up death from Italy.

So:

1) What are some examples of early 80s Italian grind core if there are any?

Stuff that would really stand out as sounding like early grind from other countries in the 80s like Napalm Death, Repulsion, early Impetigo, Assuck, etc?

2) What are some examples of 80s Italian death metal that don't have as much black/thrash in them like schizo, necrodeath etc that would have sounded more like American death metal of the time like early Death, Morbid Angel, Possessed, Necrophagia?

3) And can anyone think of any examples from the 80s or at least early 90s of Brazilian grindcore that would have really sounded like the early grind core that came out of America, England, etc??

In particular, both Italy and Brazil seem to have not jumped on the grind core train as early as they produced examples of black, death and thrash, and Italy seems to have produced more black and doom metal than they did straight up death metal in the 80s.

Thanks

Dunno about Italian grindcore, i mean i probably have some on some compilation tapes somewhere, but nothing really that rings any bells.

Italy had a real good hardcore punk scene during the early 80's however, with bands such as Impact, Blue Vomit, Rappresaglia, Negazione and all those side-projects by the Cripple Bastards members (can't name any from the top of my head but, from around 1984 to 1988)
And of course many many more...

Brazilian grind from the early days: Brigado Dó Odio (the 12" split with Olho Selco is a must have if you are into the grindstuff that predates anything Napalm Death did =P) and SP Kaos. (1985 and before, i think SP Kaos recorded in 1984 but not sure, info about these bands are not really that easy to come by)
There is an excellent compilation named "Brasil Punkcore: Could be better but also worse" covers stuff from 1980 to 1989 maybe, only obscure and underground veterans that play any form of Punk (grindcore, hardcore, fastcore. punkrock, crossover etc.).
In more recent years (90's and forward): Necrose (brutal grindcore without any fancy tricks, just brutal and in your face, you can never go wrong with their 200+ song discography tape)
And ROT! the Kings of underground brasilian grindcore! (They do suck most of the time however but the ROT/Intestinal Disease LP Split is a real ripper)

Fuck i will find that italian hardcore comp, i am sure i have at least one of these, featuring early 80's bands.
Most countries around the world have compilations like these, released by people who where in the scene at the time.

End of rant and not really Metal related at all, but proto-grind related i guess? ^^
I will leave you to it with this Spazz wisdom: Fastcore has always been around, in every country it can be found.

You could also check out the Italian extremepunk label F.O.A.D. Records, they have re-released many classics from the early days, as well as rare obscure ones no one have ever heard of.

Edit: Been digging in my archives and it turns out i had more Italian grind than i first thought.

Maybe Excidium? They sound mostly like the Texan death/thrash bands of the time to me.

DAMN dude, I'm impressed.

I've never heard of most of these bands and very few seem to be on the Metal Archives. I keep finding that there's always more old stuff that was really ground breaking and obscure in all sorts of genres that I didn't know about to the point where getting into metal/grind that was newly released just takes a back step to finding out about more great old shit.

The more you search the more you will find.
But when it comes to grindcore, you need to search in the old hardcore/crossover scenes to find the old stuff. (before 1986)

Not really on topic but not far from Italy was Yugoslavia who also had an excellent fast hardcore scene during the early 80's
The compilation series Tutti Pazzi (i think there's something like 11-12 volumes) features some of these bands.
Also some early Patareni songs on these comps. (Patareni = one of the first)

There is so many of these old obscure and very rare grind tapes from the 80's, and info about them online is hard to come by.
Good luck in your search.
