Flood

I'm really inspired by world music, especially this album by Jocelyn Pook (some of which is used in Eyes Wide Shut) It's really creepy and atmospheric and feels like a condensing of all human history into one neoclassical/avante garde album.

Are there any other albums similar to this or that fit this concept? I already listen to a lot of folk bands like Warduna and Irfan. But this album kind of takes things further.

Dead Can Dance is a fairly obvious rec for this, very atmospheric world-influenced darkwave.

Some other recs that may or may not be of interest:

Trial of the Bow, very influenced by DCD.

Possibly Arcana, again very DCD-influenced, similar to Wardruna albeit with more of a dark medieval sound.

And possibly Om's "Adviatic Songs", there are some lovely world music influences on here:

Massive second to Dead Can Dance. I was introduced to them by a link Varg Vikerness posted on his Thulean Perspectives blog (god knows why I was on there).

My recommended songs would be:

Persephone (The Gathering of Flowers)
Xavier
In The Kingdom Of The Blind, The One Eyed Are King
Host Of The Seraphim
Severance
Ullyses

Seriously atmospheric, tragic and otherworldly. Everywhere from Cathedrals, to the deepest forests to the desert.
