I know some of your mostly listen old school hip hop like Wu Tang Clan and Cypress Hill, but is there any modern hip hop out there that you'd recommend? I've been listening to Grime music (like Dizzee Rascal), which is from the UK, and it sounds pretty good.

If one can count Dälek as modern, then definitely them. Check out Absence, one of the best hiphop albums of the 21st century, and probably a fine gateway for metal listeners.

Immortal Technique, Death Grips, Aesop Rock, Nujabes
I'm extremely critical of rap/hip hop in general but these artists really made me think otherwise.

+1 for Aesop Rock

I really like Random "Mega Ran" he does a style that incorporates tons of 8-bit/Videogame inspired tunes.

Killer Mike's not too bad, and his stuff ranges from sounding like modern indie hip hop (think Tyler the Creator or the better Childish Gambino tracks) to the "classic" gangsta rap. He's Atlanta-based but doesn't typically fall into the "dirty south" trappings like Lil Jon or the Cash Money crew.

Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade. It's a good album you might like it.

K Rino does a good job of fusing oldschool style with modern production:

Killa Mike's project with El P, Run The Jewels, is great too.

Otherwise check out Quasimoto, Mf Doom and Cloudead.

modern or recent?

this one from Fort Minor is kinda both
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REAwGmv0Fuk

and I'm sure everyone knows 21 Pilots by now, but whatever
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pw-0pbY9JeU

Cheek (Finnish rap)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnWjy0_545s

this one feels kinda modern, too. Sean Price
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HRqpmx1Cfk

El-P, of course, but this one is also nice and melodic instead of chaotic as fuck

Check out Lil Ugly Mane.
He's a white guy from Richmond.
It's a mix of memphis/cloud rap/horrorcore. Interesting samples.

I'm astounded no one has mentioned kendrick lamar yet. He is truly one of the best artists in the scene, maybe one of the best rappers ever. To pimp a butterfly is probably the best hip hop album of this century.

Blue Scholars are my #1. Gotta rep the 206.

Aside from Seattle-area bands (Shabazz Palaces, Kingdom Crumbs, DoNormaal, THEESatisfaction, etc.) and some industrial/glitch stuff (Techno Animal, clipping., M.I.A., Food for Animals, dalek, Soul-Junk, and so on) I actually mostly listen to non-english hip hop. The eastern European scene is strong. 2H Company is a favorite, as is WWW. Lots of great Japanese acts too, like Izumi Macra, Moe and ghosts, group_inou, Rhymeberry, Charisma.com, DAOKO... most of those have very strong J-pop influence, mind you. I don't know what your tolerance for high-pitched cutesy Japanese girl rapping is, but it's probably lower than mine.

Posting this from mobile btw, so no links, sorry.

Does anyone need to recommend one of the top #5 most well known and famous rappers out right now, though?

"Hey guys, check out this dude Drake, he's fucking cool."

Most rappers voices are, as well as most metal singers. That's all part of the charm in those genres.

He's on the upper end of things - the only MC I know who sounds dweebier is Busdriver.

Now, it's massively hypocritical of me to criticize anyone's voice for sounding nerdy, but it's not something I want in hip hop. A good rapper has to have presence and charisma. I mean, unless you're Chief Keef or Flocka, in which case you can get away with pretty much anything, by virtue of being a fucking idiot savant extraordinaire.

I'd say he has presence and charisma in spades, which is a sentiment shared by millions of fans. But I can somewhat see your point. He's very nasally and has a curious inflection. B-Real also gets flak for his style but I absolutely love it and he even reference his nasal style in songs.

Kendrick's voice is kind of annoying and I definitely agree with your comment.

oh god I hated that guy.

jsut checked out 'Alright' after seeing a lot of people rate Lamar's album as the best of the year ... that's one of the worst beats I've ever heard.
