nah, all good, not everyone likes the same, it's always a hit and miss process

Haha, sorry but I'm not too excited about Aboleth :D

I'm still looking for extraordinary atmospheric black metal. A black metal record that you'd play while a thunderstorm is going outside. Wedrujacy Wiatr, early Drudkh; you know?

since my 1st recs didn't work let me try this ones:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93b-Dg7QAk4

this second one i particularly love and while the album itself could be better, this is one hell of a song these guys have here (please ignore the ridiculous image on the video)

I liked Onda Makter's ep from last year. Didn't know they had something new out.

@Ardbeg - Have you tried the new debut album from Germany's Aether? Nothing original but a great album all the same...

https://aetherbm.bandcamp.com/releases

I always found this release from last year a bit of an over looked gem, Vaivatar.

Could anyone please recommend some BM bands with good production values? I really want to get into the genre but I just really can't enjoy something that sounds like it's been made in someone's bathroom. I would also greatly appreciate any recommendations for more technical BM acts; I'm not asking for straight up tech-BM (if that's even a thing), just for some bands that play fast BM with interesting and complex riffs.

Some bands that I have enjoyed so far are:
Immoral (All Shall Fall album)
Summoning (Stronghold album)

in my opinion the best production on a black metal album BY FAR is on mayhem's de mysteriis dom. sathanas, no doubt. it was crafted with utter perfection.

PS: try some other classic norwegian black metal produced by pytten at the legendary grieghallen studio. probably the most skilled and influential producer in the history of black metal, who sometimes managed to create a magically ideal synthesis of song material and production.

I'm sure you'd enjoy Taake. Check out "Bjoergvin" and "Doedskvad" for great riffs and clean production. Also Mgla is a safe bet, everyone loves them and they have very high production value for the genre. Any of their stuff is good but "With Hearts Toward None" and "Exercises in Futility" would both be good starting places. Also for something a little weirder, Furia is another great Polish band. My favorite of theirs of "Grudzien za Grudniem."

Inquisition is also a stellar band with crystal clear production. "Obscure Verses..." and "Ominous Doctrines..." are both wonderful but you can't really go wrong with any of their stuff.

For something similar to Summoning, Caladan Brood is very similar but in my opinion even better. Their only album so far is "Echoes of Battle" and it's momentous.

I've listened to De Mysteriis and, well... no offence, but I wouldn't exactly call it well-produced.

Thanks, I'll definitely check those out! I think I've heard something by Taake before, but I'll make sure to give them another listen.

I'm listening to Echoes of Battle right now and it's awesome.

Cheers!

Der Weg Einer Freiheit is very clearly and articulately produced. Fast black metal with a very dramatic sense of melody.

Reading your description I think Arafel will be perfect for you, great production, technical, epic, they tick all the boxes. Folk influences do creep in but do not lighten the delivery any. Try 'For Battles Once Thought', you also get some great Kris Verwimp artwork as a bonus :)

You're welcome! Stellar is also very true to its namesake, possibly even better than the new album. :) Or at least I prefer the production.

That Serpent Column album is fucking great. Insane riffs. I'd say it's somewhere between death and black metal but it's a solid recommendation. Like Deathspell Omega but heavier/more militant.

Hi there,

I really enjoy Tardigrada, can't stop listen to their album Emotionale Ödnis.

I especially like the vocals though.

Could you recommend some bm bands with a similar style of vocals?

I'm also interested in cleanly produced black metal. My favorite albums to listen to (and the other guy might enjoy these as well) are Absu's Abzu, Deafheaven's New Bermuda, and Ascension's Amok. I also liked the Yellow Eyes album from last year as well as this year's new Zeal & Ardor. I guess you could say I also value a "fiery" style, too, with tight riffs and drums that really get you pumped.

Also, my main method of listening to music right now is Spotify because of its convenience so I apologize in advance if I have to skip a recommendation because I cannot find it there.

Gonna check out some of the above linked releases! Thanks in advance.

edit: I'm also enjoying the new Anaal Nathrakh track!

In addition to the stuff mentioned above, you should check out Wiegedood. They're cleanly produced and their music is fairly atmospheric but also includes lots of badass riffing. If you like both Deafheaven and Absu I guess you could say they're somewhere in between. Their 2nd album is my fav.

Kewl. I’ve seen this name a few times before. I added their latest to my 2018 folder and will listen to it in a little while. I’m on my work break right now just sitting around and my cellular connection is gonna make that YouTube video take forever.

Been streaming Anaal Nathrakh’s In the Constellation of the Black Widow this morning. Super borderline on it right now though.

Both Z & A and Deafheaven have nothing to do with black metal :)

Hi, I'm looking for bands that sound like Totale Vernichtung and Rostorchester. Totally anthemic, positive, prideful sounds. There's a catchiness to those bands, and that's very much what I'm after, albeit with an underground aesthetic. Raw is cool, well-produced is cool, NSBM is cool. Thanks.

Have you tried Svartkonst - Devil's Blood

https://svartkonst666.bandcamp.com/releases

It has a great rock vibe to it and incorporates a bunch of awesome riffs and hooks.

Perhaps Tartaros? They're not strictly labeled avant-garde but it reminds me a lot of Arcturus from time to time:

I second this request. I love me some grim and blasting stuff but I would love to hear some more rock-influenced riffing and mid-paced tempos.

Secrets of the Moon hailing from Germany. Sophisticated, artistic and sumptuous. Try their last three albums.

Here I am, with yet another very specific request. I'm looking for black metal with a rural, farmland vibe. Soundwise, I prefer it to have atmosphere. The vibe I'd like to get, is like this:

I'm looking for "riffy" black metal if that makes any sense to anyone. It's hard for me to explain exactly but maybe it's less of a focus on epic and/or atmospheric building riffs and more of a focus on HEAVY but mean/grim spirited riffs. Carpathian Forest, mid tempo Marduk and Beherit's Engram album are a few examples of what I would describe as "riffy". Hope this weak explanation can make sense to someone and thanks in advance! :)

Ajattara maybe? They are full of chunky mid paced riffs and some nasty grooves. Apare and Kuolema are both great records, even if some of the reviews here are merciless

Barathrum also fit well in your description and have a more old school sound, you may want to try Legions of Perkele and Okkult

Autarcie and Endlichkeit :)

For bands with a similar "rural" attitude i know Lugubrum, PN, Urfaust and Sale Freux, but i doubt Wizard is not familiar with them

Give Urgehal a go. The only album I'm familiar enough to recommend is Ikonoklast, and it's riffy as a motherfucker. Plus, it has guitar solos.

Behexen might fit the bill too. Namely, By the Blessing of Satan. Their tracks on their split with Horna are excellent, but they may be more on the epic side for what you're asking.

Craft's riffs are fucking mean as hell. I recommend that. :D They take that Darkthrone-inspired, Taake-esque groove to another level completely. Fuck the Universe is a good place to start.
