The "finishing touches" on the second Thorns album have been taking... what, four-five years now? Good to have some proof that Snorre is alive and well enough to play, but I won't be holding my breath.

Yeah until I see news from an actual label or something along those lines, I'm assuming Thorns is dead.

Weird, I was literally thinking this exact same thing the other day. Like what the hell has he been doing all this time!? Besides probably having a life, but people would be eating up Thorns albums like crazy if he had been active all these years! mmm Thorns.

That just about sums it up for Thorns 2.

since mysticum after all did come through with planet satan, I'm confident that the second thorns full-length will materialize...some day in the distant future.

That's even less likely than a new Thorns, I reckon.

I have gone from a teenager to a man grown while waiting for Thorns 2. While I'm glad he's making noises from time to time, I've just learned to not get excited about it :P Until I see an official statement or release date, I'll put it in the same place in my mind as The Winds of Winter.

Slagmaur are so wickedly awesome. I can hear how they could've been heavily influenced by Snorre/Thorns. Cool that they're buds.

Thorns covering Dire Straits is something I'd be extremely intrigued to hear, to be honest. Just don't let Satyr get close, he's way past his expiration date

Slagmaur is a cool band and I'm glad they're collaborating, but can't Snorre write anything for his own project for a change?

Has anyone heard any updates on the 2nd Thorns album? It's now been 21 years since the eponymous release . . .

Thomas Ericksen (of Mork) said on his podcast he has heard the whole album. It's seemingly done or almost done, but when Snorre will actually release it, if ever, is another matter...

Snorre has a Patreon and has been posting a lot of updates on the new album. It’s recorded (sans vocals), but lyrics are written. Vocals will be done by him, Satyr and Aldrahn. He even posted riff outtakes to the Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/snorreruch/posts

Slagmaur rules. I love their music. Don't miss their concert if you can go.
I hope the new album of Snorre Ruch will be ready very soon.

How is Snorre connected to Slagmaur? I'm genuinely asking, I'm not really familiar with his work outside of the first Thorns record.

(after noticing a pattern)

2026 rolls around:--- "2nd Thorns album... it's still happening, right? Any updates"?

"Looks like it. Music is all done, and several people have heard it, but those finishing touches, man. Snorre still has gotta get those finishing touches in! Vocals... artwork... album title.... whether to release the album or not.... but don't worry! Its happening!"

;)

I've got the Thorns album, it's not that great; I really don't get the worship either the album or the piece of shit person behind it gets.
Should anyone would be interested in checking out a much, much better industrially-tinged black metal album, I would wholeheartedly recommend my very own go-to album whenever I want my black metal unique, powerful and cold, in the same vein of Thorns' self titled, yet much, much better, comprised of musicians that I could only guess have no human blood on their hands:

Not the subforum to be doing self promotion, bud.

---

Seems like the new record has been at the same stage for quite a while now. Recorded; needing vocals.

We'll see it when we see it. I'll check it out when it comes out.

I love when someone disparages someone else only to promote their own awful music.

Thanks for sharing! It sounds very promising. I still refuse to get my hopes up though, Snorre will probably continue to tweak it for another decade.

On a related note, I recently got the "Stigma Diabolicum" compilation by Thorns. It's fantastic, I don't really get the 20% rating it has. You get all the important demos of Stigma Diabolicum and Thorns in one place. It's such a shame that this material never got the chance to end up on a full-length. Most know about Ærie Descent, but there is so much great material there. Home, Fall, Thule, Lovely Children and so on.

Yeah that's good news. I hope Thorns will be back very soon. But We need to be patient with Snorre Ruch. In fact there are no vocals for the moment exactly ?

Thanks Andrew, I'll check out his Patreon. I didn't know that he had any online presence at all, and that video that the guy from Mork has put up is something I'll listen to later - this gives me some hope that it's actually progressing. Aldrahn told me all the way back in 2006 or something that the 2nd album was done, but then the trail went cold.

If you're referring to the last video posted, it sounds pretty blatantly Norwegian to me.

Anyway, if anyone misses the 2001 Thorns / 1999 Dødheimsgard sound, I'd like to recommend this excellent EP: https://teitan.bandcamp.com/album/v-kuum

Slagmaur guys just posted this:

"All the figures and the demons from the band thank you for the audience record at Prophecy. Slagmaur is looking forward to taking over England's cold shores next weekend before the band will complete the vocals on the new Thorns album and their own."

The long awaited albums (by both) will see the light!

Isn't this exactly the same 'news' since 2007?

No. Slagmaur's new album is a certainty since they signed a new deal with a German label for some albumS but since they're in close collaboration with Snorre (beside being best of buddies) who helps them for the recordings, mixing I think that this time is for real.

I think Snorre is going to break a world record for the longest time to record vocals.

I think it's going to take some effort for him to catch the guys in Dawn, he's still 3 years behind them.
