Are you sure it wasn't the other way around? Because if you are correct, what was the band smoking? Dead sure. The bottom one is featured on the older pressings, inculding the limited digipack with the demo tracks as bonus. I didn't even know they had changed the artwork until I managed to snatch a copy on Amazon some 3-4 years ago (all pressings are out of print by now) and that... thing came out of the envelope. Suffice to say I wasn't too pleased. |

That first cover made me giggle abit, MT... Mike W.Smith is actually a pretty big name in christian music still, which is pretty embarrasing. My mum buys his cds now and then... even by CCM standards it's horribly bland stuff. His covers aren't that much better these days either. |

A weird thing about that is it's on the Necromantia guy's own label... So apparently that was the cover he specifically wanted. I don't hate it as much as some other people, but it could certainly be more tasteful... and better drawn... and... |

Now don't get me wrong, the painting is very good but the style and the logos placement somehow make you think this is some hipster retro doom band. I'd rather take generic forest photo with runic/gothic style logo. |

It's a badly stretched image that's flat, blurred as shit, and is faded with the band members underneath. It's uninteresting, super bland, and unappealing. Quite lame in my book. |

 The font, the background. It's all just so incredibly shitty, which is perfect, in my opinion. It's funny because the album itself was recorded/engineered by Kurt Ballou, so the music sounds really professional, haha. |

I'm not sure this qualifies as either ugliest/lamest or, in light of the other current thread, coolest, but back in the day, before I got my hands on Gorguts' Obscura, and when I'd only ever seen lo-res or thumbnail images of its artwork -- we're talking just within a couple years after it came out -- I'd wrongly supposed the figure on the cover to be a levitating yogic pigman. If you will:  Either step back from your screen or let your eyes go a little out of focus, and imagine the dude's head as that of a pig with its chin slightly upturned in smug defiance. The nostrils and mouth of the man remain those of the pig, but his wisps of hair become little bowtie ears, and the shadows on his sunken cheeks become the malevolent, porcine eyes. His beard is the chin and throat area. I had a very strange image of Gorguts before I'd ever heard their music. And to this day I still see the pigman. |
