looks like a ass head

Ironically, this band's name was Disgusting, and so was this EP.

This is a solid album, but the artwork is quite horrible. It's not very original, it's silly and it doesn't at all capture the essence of the music.

Also, not really the worst per sé, but Candlemass seem to have had a fair share of half-assed covers for such an established band: Cheap rehash of the classic Epicus artwork - how impressive. Allegedly "an old bum with angel wings"; I only found this out from the reissue's liner notes. For such an important comeback album, they sure didn't go overboard with the creativity. Nice idea, generic as hell execution.

If you ever feel the need to prove the saying "true beauty lies within" as right, then use this as example. Therion never really had it with good or remarkable cover artworks in general - except for "Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas" - but "Theli" is without a doubt the ugliest of all. Candlemass could have done MUCH better with their album covers, ESPECIALLY the white album. As good as that album was- and it was an outstanding album,- I thought the half-assed cover didnt really do it any justice at all.

I always thought they wanted to give a message similar to: "Fuck all pretensions, we are just Candlemass and that's what you'll get" on their self-titled. Of course, that's mostly me being positive...

Those Candlemass covers are still a lot better than what was used for Leif Edling's solo album. Imagine that being used on a Candlemass album. Edling's not exactly known for having good taste in cover art after the 80's. If he has the final say in the decision making, that is. Just look at the artworks for Abstrakt Algebra and Krux for more examples.

I think it's because photo editing software was becoming widely available, so even though that sort of thing looks cheap now, it was pretty "fresh" at the time... It's also why so much computer-generated artwork sucks: ANYONE CAN DO IT!

The fact that so much of it sucks kind of proves that not anyone can do it, though You have to wonder what happened with quality control with some of those... That Razor cover would be generic but passable without the dumb guy's face pasted on top. It makes it look like a poorly executed lame joke. Then again, this was the band that thought that drawing was good enough to grace Shotgun Justice's front...
