The Queensryche symbol looks like it was poorly edited in Microsoft Paintbrush.

Agreed. I always thought that cover was really, really cheap looking. Someone needed to get FXAA injector going. (if only!)

Not the worst, but really uninspired - a shame, the album destroys.

Dear god, that Mortiis. What is with that Skull Cockpiece?

"One Socket is for Wizzin', the other's for Jizzin'"

Joking Aside, some of the Nuclear Blast Photoshop Covers always come to mind interms of pure UGLY.

Image

horrible Photoshop, I like the colours, but if it was just...painted it would be better. The one circulating years before was just as ugly.

Image

I liked the Eyes of Noctem Album, I like the colours of the cover (White black and Blue, nothing bad with those), but the picture...just..the picture...

Image

Too much stuff going on within the mass of colours. There are artists that pull of the "Everything and your mother is in the cover" look, like Mark Riddick of Mindrape art, but this is just....bad to look at.

I don't mind the Eyes of Noctum cover. Hell, it's actually a little creepy looking, mainly with the dude's eyes.

I legitimately thought that was just a bad picture the first few times I saw it, like a poor upload. I mean that's awful.

How lucky of me to actually bother to read the thread this far, and to see that what I was just about to post as an enormous Bengal State-sized screen-stretching exercise in futility was already on the page two:

The only thing worse than this atrocity of cover..is the music itself. Works great if you are trying to get rid of ghost inside your home.

The worst ever. I'm definitely going to read the threads I intend to post on in the future, so that Napero & Al will tolerate my existence better, and not ban my sorry ass for being an illiterate and lazy-ass irritant.

I love the album but come on... They like took some band photos and just photoshopped some clouds over, changed color and opacity and maybe added a lens flare? Which my eye just zooms in on most of the time, really distracting. Even the demos looked better.

I have never been able to take that cover art seriously! Sucks seeing as how the music is pretty good, and even the layout looks alright.

I love this album, but this artwork is crappy. The quality is really bad and everything looks almost completely out of focus.

Then, there's Lacuna Coil...

I'm not even really sure what to say here. At least the re-release has some pretty sweet cover art.

Hahaha, this one is great. It looks like he's pissing in a really squiggly line that leads to a distant castle.

How about this one from The Gurchick Tree? The music is nothing short of masterful, but I always hated this album cover to death. Gory stuff doesn't really work if you're going to be sloppy about it.

Many covers here don't really belong.

I actually really like the new Rotting Christ cover.

The Iron Maiden Dance of Death cover is really one of the most spectacularly stupid cover I have ever seen.

But my pet peeve is homoerotic covers like Manowar's Into Glory Ride. I fucking hate that stuff.

Two great thrash albums with godawful artwork. At least the remastered cover art for Killing Is My Business... is decent.

I honestly like the Spectrum of Death artwork. I think it's crude but it works.

One of the most infamously bad album arts of all time.

I think you could make a whole thread about how bad this specific album cover is. No really, I HATE that artwork. That is the one thing that has stopped me from buying that album even though I've heard tons of people tell me it's a great modern Maiden album. Stupid I know, but I can't put artwork that terrible in my album collection.

Maybe, JUST maybe, they'll reissue the album this year since it's the ten year anniversary of its' release with new artwork. The band has to be aware of how shit the artwork is. Hell, even the artist who created the cover asked that his name be removed from the credits of the album because he was so ashamed of how poorly it turned out. Apparently it's unfinished too.

Anyone like this version better?

Image

Someone on Deviantart made it and I honestly like it a lot better than the actual artwork.

The Spectrum of Death cover art is awesome. It's Eddie on LSD. That is completely appropriate.

Spectrum of Death's art is the album's music visualized; manic, crazy, and completely whacked out.

This one is more confusing than ugly. It took me forever to figure out exactly what the picture was depicting, and finding out that they were severed hands didn't really bring any peace of mind. Is this some sort of medieval torture? Being hung by your hands and then they're cut off and left swinging in the wind? Seriously, if someone knows what this is supposed to be, tell me.

It's a picture taken from an execution in an African country, don't remember which. I guess the victim was tied by the hands, before the rest of the body eventually fell.

I don't really expect anyone to know this one, they're a band from the Philippines that asked me to review the album. The music isn't too bad, but the cover... uhh.... I've realized that the album art is so bad that it makes me listen to the album less than I should be, which isn't really fair to the band.

It's a girl.

Apparently with the Dance of Death cover, that was a draft, and not intended as the final version of the artwork... But the artist showed it to Steve Harris and he insisted that it be used as the album cover as it was. True story!

This is a solid album, but the artwork is quite horrible. It's not very original, it's silly and it doesn't at all capture the essence of the music.

no idea what the band is (can't read the logo) but judging by the logo, tree, green/grey colour scheme and the album title, it is most definitely some kind of technical death metal, or brutal DM... one of those newer clicky-clicky styles that make modern DM suck, in any case.

I thought the same. I could read the logo though, apparently it's Petrychor: Ambient Black Metal/Post-Rock/Folk. The art style is indeed pretty unfitting, but it's not actually looking horrible.

I think it's a great cover, personally. The random, unnecessary swath of green shit at the top doesn't seem to belong at all, though... It doesn't even seem to be part of the image. It would've been 10x better if they'd just filled it in with dark grey or something.

Fun Facts: Petrichor (misspelled here for faux-artsy effect) = "The pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after a dry spell."

Sorry to bring up Dance of Death again, but I found a version that doesn't have all the shit CGI people in it.

Apparently this is the version they were going to use but the label wanted more content thus the unfinished, shitty version we all know and hate was born...

I like that artwork. I don't know if it's merely because of how it compares to others here, but I really think that looks good.

Retarded. That cover looks average, but at least it's neat, smooth and not cluttered with nonsense.

Why there is no reissue with the original version is beyond me.

If the label didn't like the original cover, it makes sense now that Steve would be okay with the shitty cover, as kind of a 'fuck you' to the label.
