Post subject: | Abstract Perceptions |
Hey what's up people. I just recently registered here, in hopes of finding out some information about a band, and to find out how to submit what I already know/have to the archives. I'm trying to find out about a metal tape from around 1989 that I have so far found to be really elusive. The band is called Dementia. They seem to hail from Wichita, Kansas, according to the cassette insert that I still have (the tape went AWOL along with my record collection a long time ago, because vindictive ex-girlfriends suck). The name of this cassette was Abstract Perceptions. I already checked the current listings for bands named Dementia, and did not find any similarities. The band members were: Mike Menasco (bass) Nick Wells (drums) MIke Wells (guitars/vocals) and Chris Hartless (guitars). The tape sleeve lists a P.O. Box in Wichita and a pair of phone numbers. Since this is a tape that is approximately 24 years old, I haven't tried to mail or call. Yet. The sleeve also claims copyright belonging to 'Demented Toonz' but I can't find any information anyplace for either the band or the 'label'. This was a printed cassette, with song titles and band logo, not a TDK or similar type of recording; which leads me to believe it was a studio effort. The tape insert indicates it was live material from 5/6/89. As I already mentioned, I would also like to find out what I need to do to get the band information (and possibly a scan of the insert, with cover art, lyrics and additional info) added to the archives. I do believe this band qualifies as metal, from my recollection of the songs. I hope to someday recover a copy of the music, so any help in that direction would be great. Ideally I would be up to trade a copy of the sleeve for a copy of the tunes, but I don't yet know if that would be an option. This has been a 10+ year search, for what it's worth. Any help is truly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Without any samples of the music, we can't really add them to MA. I can't find any infos either :/ |

Unfortunately all I have are the lyrics and other data printed on the liner at this time. Hopefully I can find something out. It would be a terrible loss; the music was ahead of its time, in my opinion. Thanks for the reply. |

Some of their music is on here: http://www.myspace.com/dementiawichita They also have a Facebook page set up http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dementia/110015885700304 You could try contacting someone through those pages because even if they were set up by a fan that person might have a copy of what you are looking for, but someone asked over a year ago on the myspace page (maybe it was you) so maybe it is a dead end still. |

The songs are definitely metal, I guess you can add the band, Lucky13, create a good submission. |

That's them, thank you Apteronotus, nice find! Your search effort succeeded where mine did not. I wasn't the guy from a year ago who posted on their Myspace page; but I did now, and added them to friends list. I'll do a submission, I've got a collection of information to go on now. Both pages appear to belong to a band member. Thanks again! |

I believe I heard them play all of those tracks live at the Omni in Oakland, California (which is when I got my tape) except for two. Vividly Deceased, and Despair. I have a small home studio setup, and I'm taking a shot at remastering the tracks to see if it is do-able. There's a 8-9Khz whistle that really makes them hard to enjoy, and they are a bit muddy. So far so good though. Waiting to hear back from the band still; maybe they would like free cleaned up copies of their material. |

I still have this cassette. Bought it the day it was released. This is an old thread but it would be incredible to have a cleaned up copy. Please. This thing is so worn out it barely plays. |
