Sleepers in the Rift is one of my favourite death metal albums of recent years with the twisting, meandering riffs in the vein of Autopsy. Really looking forward to this one. Couldn't locate any samples yet on youtube.

Not much to discuss, since that's all the information we have right now.

Might be good to post some stuff for people who don't know them

I'll buy it. I don't like this artwork. it looks like it's from some jr. art show project you would see in a mall somewhere.

Yeah. I mean I don't hate the artwork, it's fine, but it's certainly a step down from the previous album.

Might pick this up.

Yea it's not like I hate, hate it. It's just a step down and when I look at it... I def would think it's something off some indie metalcore label that just started releasing post rock albums than anything death metal related.

I was hoping the next album's art would've been similar to their other album. maybe something painted in oils utilizing bright colors as well. that would've been great.

I sense another musical path, Tribulation style. Call it a non-informed hunch.

Yeah, that artwork seems to hint a change of direction. Nothing too out there, I hope. I liked Sleepers in the Rift just the way it was.

nobody check out 'A Saunter Through....'?? probably gonna be more stuff in that vein, which is awesome cause that's the type of stuff i expected when i saw 'Sleepers...' artwork, not the straight up SweDeath we got (which don't get me wrong is awesome and they certainly lived up to it....just wasn't what i expected)

The album cover reminds me of Tyrants Blood's latest album. I much preferred Tribulation's debut so if it is to sound like them I would be very happy sounding like it.

I for one like this album art more than the last album's. Certainly a great news that they're coming up with another album. Loved every bit of "Sleepers in the Rift".

I remember seeing these guys playing in a dingy little restaurant a couple years ago, and they ripped. I can't say I have much interest in death metal anymore, but I think everyone's doing right to get their hopes up, even if the artwork is questionable.

Awesome, this is the best news in a long time. I liked the first album a lot, but the EP just blew my fucking mind. The songs on there were like the Crack the Skye of death/doom. (If you don't like Crack the Skye, replace it with a random modern proggy metal record.) It's about time they put out a new one.

I like the artwork too, actually. It's a step down from the EP but a step above the debut, imo. Great band.

Wow, I didn't expect this at all. If this is an indication of the rest pf the album, they've somewhat changed directions. The guitar tones sound different and there are some clear 70s prog/psych elements.

I've been looking forward to this and I thought I'd be disappointed if they strayed from their sound, since I enjoyed Sleepers in the Rift so much, but this isn't a let down at all. Very cool. It's a well written song and I'm intrigued to hear what the rest will sound like.

Jesus, I'm only just listening to A Saunter Through the Shroud for the first time right now. How could I have not heard this already???

Sweven? That title is horible! Cool band though, I'm eager to hear what they'll do next.

People are comparing the new song to Tribulation's similar change in direction. They're definitely similar, but Morbus Chron's take is much, much weirder, and I hear Demilich, Adramelech, and recent Gorguts in it.

I'm a huge, huge fan of this change. The Formulas of Death was my favorite album of last year, and Nespithe is my favorite death metal album ever. This looks like it's combining the two and I'm very, very excited to hear the end result.

Digging the new song. The Autopsy influences are still rampant, but they have gone through a filter of..... Weirdness. I like that. Certainly doesn't feel as light-hearted as their first album, either.

The title of the album is horrible and the cover is much, much worse than the cover of Sleepers In The Rift. However I must say that the new song is quite cool in all of it's weirdness.

Sweven is an archaic old english word that means "to sleep, dream." I think its a fitting title given the artwork and the sound of the new song.

Yeah that song is fucking dope. Always kinda liked the debut but never really listened to it too much, so I decided to revisit it. Can't say this change comes as a huge surprise though.

Ah, I didn't realise. Thanks for the explanation; I thought it was a groanworthy utter failure at "clever wordplay". :p

And are Ghost really an original enough band for people to start claiming other groups to be "Ghost influenced"? I mean I don't utterly despise the band as some seem to but they're not bringing anything new to music; certainly not enough to suppose that a band of talented musicians like Morbus wouldn't be influenced by the progenitors of the same style rather than some other new Swedeband.

Hmm, well. I would say that the new Tribulation album is certainly "Ghost influenced", especially in the lead guitar playing, but that's almost entirely because Tribulation's lead guitarist is also Ghost's lead guitarist.

Century Media sent out the promos for this last night. Halfway through and I can tell it's gonna be a grower; there are a few elements that might not click right away, but the appeal of the album is immediately obvious and it's enjoyable on the first listen.

Definitely one of the stranger things I expect to listen to this year, and I expect to like it very much.

g_k wrote:

It only makes sense in the context of iamntbatman's post, though all it actually means is that Ghost and Tribulation share common influences.
