Love the guitar tone and keyboards. It looks like they're progressing even further past the NitND style into some slightly 'happier' pasture, but if the results turn out this well, I won't be complaining. Bravo.

Wow, Katatonia still have it! Seriously, these guys always bring interesting stuff to the table.

Thought it was great, as well. Had some definite Tool-isms, and seemed a little busier overall.

It wasnt bad by any means, but there isnt a good vocal hook anywhere in there. Feel like that might have helped it be somewhat more entertaining.

True. But without the outstanding drumming.

Yeah, the vocals weren't particularly interesting.

Sounded pretty solid, I will definitely get this. Love the overall progression and variety of the song.

Fucking amazing. Blown away honestly... I didn't feel it was at all happier sounding, actually I felt it sounded like a composite of all the post bmd material.

I'm not hearing all the Tool similarities that everyone else seems to - thank God. This is an interesting direction for them to take, certainly busier than what they've been doing for the last few years. Jonas's melodies sound more involved, too. I'm pleased. =]

It's only one guitar riff, so no big deal. The song is pretty good.

I, too, heard the Tool elements, but Katatonia pull it off with a melancholy that Tool could never achieve.

Nevertheless, this will attract more mainstream acceptance. Which is not a bad thing; personally, I think it speaks well on a band's sound if it can cater to the masses without being an obvious sellout.

I've listenend to it two times so far and from what I've heard It'll get better with time, it isn't bad, but it isn't fucking amazing, the progressive elements are interesting and the vocals are really close to what they have been on night is the new day, which I think is a good thing. If the rest of this album is like this or even better, I will be quite pleased.

Pretty much the same thing as the last album (or last three albums for that matter). Can't really go wrong.

It's nothing mind-blowing but a very good track overall. I look forward to hearing the whole album.

Decent track, but I miss the emotion, subtly, and the catchyness of Night Is the New Day. It's sort of all over the place, you know. It's sort of a mix between their latest two albums, one heavy and hardrock-ish, one moody, subtle, and beautiful. I just don't know if the mix between the two wil be a improvement.

This.

Or Toolpeth Townsend. Not bad, but far from their glory days. The song never really takes off, it just meanders and exists, like an elderly patient with dementia.

Listened to the album today and as I expected it really didn't particularly move me one way or another. I'm not too big on post-BMD stuff, not saying it's even moderately bad or anything, just kinda "meh" for me (Like the above post says, it just sort of meanders although it does have its moments here and there). Maybe a few more listens are in store, but as far as things go right now, I'm just not that into it.

Their lyrics have gotten weaker. The lyrics and vocals are Katatonia's strong point imo. While this isnt a bad thing, it seems like Katatonia is taking a more progressive direction now and dropping their gloomy/melancholic rock style. Its a nice new sound for them, but they are going to need to pull it off right without sounding like generic prog metal, as some of you have called referred to as "Toolpeth".

Whiny and laughably weak vocals, terrible slit my wrist lyrics, and riffs that are about as threatening or gloomy as a HIM song. I fail to see why these guys are so popular, this isn't even depressive or atmospheric its just a bland rock song from a band that has been terrible for a long time now. I guess it would be one thing if the band had a gradual decline in terms of songwriting and quality, but these guys have been churning out the same crap for a long time no.

I enjoy Katatonia more and more as they progress.

Although I agree with whoever said the lyrics aren't quite as strong.

edit: Downloading leaked copy, stoked to hear it in the morning.

They progress? They sound the same since a while, this wasn't different, generic Katatonia, no evolution.
