Seriously. How fucking good is this band? Amazing musicians, amazing composers. Sample track sounds great. Can't wait for the album!

Amazing live experience, too. One of the better bands I've seen live. Their command in a live setting matches the quality of their material.

Just listened to Thoughts Like Hammers and was not disappointed. (Not too much of a surprise)

A metal band gets featured on NPR, and people aren't quick to shit on them?

WTF is this shit? Has every metalhead spontaneously grown a vagina?

When something enjoyable gains exposure, it automatically becomes detestable and horrid? Or do you think that anything even remotely popular is, as a rule, also musically deficient - otherwise it would never be accepted by the mainstream (even a small sliver of it)?

Yeah, it's a fucking shame a music critic (ie, one who is paid to write about music, ie someone who has made enough of an impression on others that people actually want to hear from him) likes metal....especially if he works for NPR! Metal bands in Canada can apply and have received government funding underneath "arts" banners....why is this any different? NPR music is one of the last bastions of decent music, and it's awesome they are promoting metal in an unironic and genuine way.

It's just National Public Radio! I wasn't trying to sound condescending, just taken aback. I thought everyone just knew, because it's in every state with all the same programs.

I had no clue at all. Is it like PBS? Cause that's the only thing I knew of that's similar. I have never heard of there being a National Public Radio... it's not on any station I've ever came across when listening to the radio.

NPR is a non-profit,syndicated terrestrial radio program. I only tuned in once to hear Gene Simmons' notorious interview.

Metal is supposed to be threatening, wild, and untamed, so for this genre then, yes, this is true.

Hahaha what? According to who? And threatening? Please indulge me and name three bands that are "threatening, wild, and untamed" to anyone else but Ned Flanders and some 80+ year old!

Grow up.

Correlation does exist, that's obvious, but apologies if I'm somewhat lost as to where the causality is. Elaborate?

Im digging this new track. As far as openers go, it doesn't have that same impact that Axioma's did. That's not to say it's not a good track!

And as far as the title "Thoughts Like Hammers" go, I think it's Enslaved's way of putting in some of that old Viking influence, kinda like Axioma Ethica ODINi. Or I'm maybe reading into it too much. lol :-D

Enslaved is a band that I've always seen mentioned but for whatever reason I've never actually dived into their discography. I'm currently listening to Frost and I really like it. Would it be safe to assume that I should start from the beginning of their discography and progress forward from there or are there highlight albums that I should give a few solid listens to first?

I'm counting down the days for this new album. In the meantime, I finally bought Ruun which is easily one of the band's least efforts (but all in all relatively decent.)

When it comes to bands which started as one style, and are now quite different, I tend to start at either end of the discography, and meet in the middle. The only concrete advice I'd give would be this; Don't neglect Hordanes Land just because it's an EP! I did for years, and I missed out badly.

Enslaved is the kind of band that I will always like, or appreciate what they do, though I think it's going to be damn hard to top Axioma Ethica Odini.

I enjoyed that as much as the first one - I sense that this might be something of an eclectic album, given the gulf of difference between the tracks.

Yup! Album of the year so far. Roots of the Mountain is amazing, one of their best songs ever.

I like it so far, the only down point for me is the frog vocals. They don't hinder the album to the point where it makes everything else not enjoyable, but they definitely aren't the greatest by any means.

Kjellson's vocals have gotten somewhat stale over the years on record - live, he sounds just like the beast he was on Below the Lights, for example.

Well if it's any compensation, I think the clean vocals are done very very very well. I'd say it's an acceptable trade off.

"frog" vocals :nono: :nono: Yeah, the clean vocals are their best yet, it fits the music very well. Proggier, less heavier but as good as Axioma.
