The recording of the upcoming album Serpent Sermon has been completed and the album has been mastered and delivered. Some more visuals form the last days in the studio has been posted in the gallery section! Full tracklist, cover artwork and release info will follow shortly. The first dates of the Serpent Sermon World Tour 2012 will soon be presented as well. No mercy will be given...

From the band's website.

I'm very excited and hope it's more like 'Iron dawn' than 'Wormwood'...

Excellent news really liked the Iron Dawn, so hope they continue with that style! World tour never say no to seeing Marduk live, one of the best bands I've seen!

Iron Dawn was good because it was short, 30+ minutes of the same stuff will be a bore.

I enjoyed both wormwood and iron dawn. not much a fan of earlier marduk, I think it's average BM at best (but then, I don't really know their back catalog that well, so...) but I like mortuus vocals a lot and also the atmosphere on the slower numbers (funeral dawn comes to mind) sound cool to me. Way better than recent dark funeral (I tend to think of these bands as being kinda similar, since they are/were pretty much straight foward blasting BM) IMO.

I discovered them with 'Plague angel' and I have yet to find any black metal album by any band that I prefer, I absolutely adore that record.

tbh, I'm only familiar with the infamous panzer division (which I enjoy in short sharp bursts), the next one (grande dance macabre but can't be 100% sure) and rom 5:12, and none of those records seem to be on the same level as wormwood/iron dawn for me. I know it is not much info to be able to judge a band, considering these guys have like 9 or 10 studio albums already but hey, I'm a busy man! lol! will check plague angel while waiting for the new one. any other albums by them worth the time investment?

Those of the Unlight, the best of the older stuff, if you ask me. And I also like World Funeral, has some pretty memorable tracks! :)

Hey don't forget about their debut Dark Endless. It's pretty much death metal and very awesome.

Also, I'd consider the 'Here's No Peace' and 'Fuck Me Jesus' EPs essential if your looking for their older, more Death Metal works.

Wormwood sucked.. It was too "Conseptual".

Irod Dawn EP was fucking bone breaking.. hopefully his line shall be continued!

Cool News. I know they can't repeat Panzer Division, but they should try. BM's Reign in Blood.

I wasn't huge on Wormwood, it seemed to go step too far in the Funeral Mist direction and aside from a few songs it didn't sound like Marduk, to me Rom 5:12 did it much better. Iron Dawn was ok, I just don't think Mortuus handles the ultra fast as well as the slower stuff, so I'd welcome something more in line with the last two albums just to get the most out of his voice. Obviously something more "Marduk-y" than Wormwood though.

Edit: Mortuus, not Morgan.

maybe that's why it was so good? :p seriously, I don't know much about marduk as I've said, but what I've heard is nothing more than average BM at best. Wormwood is a different beast, it is has fast as well as slow numbers, aggression, atmosphere, great songwriting (into utter madness, phosphorous redeemer) and amazing performances by all members (gotta say, again, mortuus is amazing) and is a modern BM album I can enjoy. Someone said Iron Dawn works well since it is very short and I am inclined to agree. Hope new album will be varied enough.

P.S. - Funeral Mist destroys.

While I am not familiar with their back catalogue, I think Wormwood is fantastic. I spin it quite frequently and love the dynamics between the songs. Mortuus has some of the meatiest vocals out there and it was great to hear him have some space to use em'. I will be happy if it the new one retains a lot of similar qualities, but I am hoping they keep exploring.

I'm getting 'World funeral' next, I keep reading that it's sub-par but what I've heard sounds killer.

Also 'Nightwing' is considered an ideal starter album for the older stuff with Legion, apparently.

To me, World Funeral was their last good album (their best being the first two), which I highly recommend; only thing I dislike about it -as well as the couple of albums that came before it- is the production, not my cup of tea.
Gonna give this new album a try when it comes out though, just to see what they sound like nowadays.

Looking forward to this, I only have PDM and Rom 5:12, and I MUCH prefer Rom. That album just has a nice sickly feeling to it.

World Funeral, Plague Angel, TOTU, Sulphur Souls and Dark Endless all destroy the last two albums, which were lame.

This isn't opinion, it's a fact.

To me Marduk has always been a consistently great band. I tend to enjoy more of their early work, probably just cause of getting it new at the time. But I've enjoyed every single thing they have put out and shall be picking this up as well.

Looks neat, you just cant go wrong with disfigured angels. Track list seems to be pretty standard for nowadays Marduk except "Hail Mary ( Piss-soaked Genuflexion)"...simply awesome.

I hope the album will sound more like Wormwood than Iron Dawn. The former is fantastic while the latter is PDW 2.

No, it's not just you. It feels really synthetic to me. Plus that angel is far to derpy.

Yep, I'd agree with it being more depry than disfigured haha.

Edit: Also, No Logo! The Marduk Logo is awesome and they've opted for that piece of free photoshop font looking crap.

I dig the fuck out of that cover. It is pretty simple, but something about it is just pleasing to the eyes.

Yeah the cover is pretty simplistic, doesn't really bother me though... and who knows maybe it's a slipcase cover or something.

I also hope they use the proper Marduk logo for the finished product, but I quite like the angel (whatever "derpy" means :D )

So looking forward to this. I hope that Mortuus/Arioch has continued his input in the band; the last two albums were monsters.
About the cover/logo. I actually like that logo more than the traditional (they've used it on different merch already), and I think it conveys the filth and general depravity of the music quite well.
