as far as riff-laiden albums go, i'll second all the mentions of immortal - at the heart of winter and melechesh - emissaries and add old man's child - pagan prosperity

Good one, but the ultimate Judas Iscariot song is The Heavens Drop With Human Gore.

Surprised at the lack of mention of Grand Belial's Key. Judeobeast Assassination is full of excellent riffs, but The Tenderhearted's Manifesto has to have some of the best.

The last riff from Mourning Palace by Dimmu Borgir is excelent.

How come nobody has mentioned THIS?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c3L0bqUnao

Riff at 4:00, but basically the whole album is full of great riffs.

Also, not wanting to be an asshole, but the last riff of one of my former band's songs is pretty good and Black Metal sounding.

Grand Belial's Key - The tricifixion of swine. Great riffs from beginning to end, but especially at 1:44 and again at 4:02. Fucking EPIC! One of my favorite metal riffs even outside the Black realm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDC8loxU ... re=related

Rotting Christ - Archon, the verse riff, fucking kick ass song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT-2mRyjrs4

I - Days of North Winds. Fucking infectious main riff. I couldn't get it out of my mind for three weeks after i heard it. The entire album absolutely rules. I know, not exactly Black, but it's close enough.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gccldqtS_Gg

Nokturnal Mortum - Voice of Steel. Opening riff. Buy this album. Now.

Unhallowed - Dissection
Budstikken - Burzum
Gateway to the Dark Peak & The Wayfarer Pt. 1 - The Solitary One Waits for Grace - Winterfylleth
One by One - Immortal

Oh, this is hard. So many great stuff out there. I'll try to make a selection:

Sühnopfer - "Espérance": the riff that starts at around 1:32 is godlike.
Darkthrone - I en Hall Med Flesk Og Mjød: the riff after the second 'chorus'. Gives me chills.
Kawir - Moirae: both the opening and closing riffs of this song are so full of energy. Those riffs alone make this one of the best album openers of all time imo.
Peste Noire - Laus Tibi Domine: the opening riff. Simple, yet so eerie and fantastic. The solo at the end is amazing, as well.
Mortifera - Ciel Brouillé: the riff that starts with the final verse. So climatic.
Ulver - Capitel V: Bergtatt - Ind I Fjeldkamrene: The last riff (not counting the acoustic outro) is out of this world.
Mayhem - From The Dark Past: the riff that starts with "Tell me, what did you see there?" is my favourite riff of the album.
Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var: the riff when the drums kick in. Fantastic.
Aorlhac - Le Miroir des Pechés: the outro riff always gets to me, especially the live version with the guy from Sühnopfer on drums.
Agatus - Spirits From The Depths of the Earth: the riff between the spoken word-part and the outro is magical.
Zemial - Daimon: dat outro riff.
Desaster - Home for the Brave: the intro riff, a variation on the opening riff to "A Touch of Medieval Darkness" that makes it even better.
Emperor - I Am The Black Wizards: again, the opening riff. Need I say more?

Sorry, I tried to be brief.

Emperor's - Inno a Satana (verse riff)
Grand Belial's Key - On a Mule Rides the Swindler (every damn riff in this song)
DsO - Hétoïmasia - (the beginning riff)
Burzum - Key to the Gate (every damn riff in this song)
Weakling - Dead as Dreams (the harmonized intro riff)
Sacramentum - Blood Shall Be Spilled (every damn riff in this song)

.....I'll keep it short, or I'll be here all month naming riffs.

Rotting Christ are masters of the riff, and to me Fgmenth, Thy Gift is the most stellar, fucking evil riff ever composed.

That's a good riff, but the best riffs on that album, IMO, are the "psychedelic" riff in "Valkyrie" and the polyrhythmic riff in the middle of "By Path of the Sun."

Keeping with Ukrainian BM, Kroda's "Gnarled Cudgels of Thunder" has a couple of incredible rifftastic moments.

Id have to say my favorite Black Metal riff is the opening riff for Nyktalgias " Peisithanatos". Malfeitor (guitarist for Nyktalgia) is my favorite guitarist in the Black Metal genre. I also love the chorus riff for Ceremonial Castings song "Darkness And War".

"Darkness and War" is absolutely devastating. It definitely deserves to be mentioned in any thread praising riffcraft. So simple yet so effective.

Even though I'm a drummer, my two fave black metal riffs are:

1. Behemoth: Of Fire and the Void
2. Goatwhore: Invert the Virgin

Enslaved - Midgards Eldar - The transition from the beginning riff into the middle riff makes it sound so chaotic
Primordial - Graven Idol - The last riff in that song is just so, epic
Bal-Sagoth - The Dreamer In the Catacombs - The riff when the screaming starts
Arcturus - Fall of Man
Graveland - Black Metal War

for me, I like Malevolentia (france)'s riff for their song Martyrs, it's just a really simple thing, but for some reason, I really like it the way it is.

One of the rare cases where a devout disciple of a certain style actually gives his influences a run for their money. What a shame the band hasn't been able to write more equally excellent riffs.

Just throwing out a few that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

Megiddo - The Oath
Nargaroth - I Still Know
Burzum - Belus' Død (stands out among all other post-prison Burzum songs, and yes I know it's Dauði Baldrs in BM form)
