Is anything more evil than this riff by Beyond Creation?

Very nice. Although it's not the most evil one ever, the first riff I always think of when I hear someone say "tremelo picking" is the main one from Amon Amarth's The Last With Pagan Blood.

This thread will probably be locked but...
Anyway, that's not a bad riff but I swear I've heard it 800 other times.

My favourite for the subject at hand though.

That Beyond Creation riff is indeed awesome. I love those guys.

The main riff in Phobophile by Cryptopsy. Evil sounding and also ridonkulously catchy. Close second would be the main riff of Slit Your Guts off the same album.

How about Death - Beyond the Unholy Grave?

Still one of my favorite Death Metal songs ever.

That one riff in Morbid Angel's Opening of the Gates always seems to get stuck in my head. When the song starts to speed up. So I guess I'll go with that one.

I have to say, that im quite ignorant and can´t know exactly if a riff is done in "tremolo" style, anyway i think Vader´s Litany has a lot of them,in my opinion that album has some of the best death metal riffs, these are my favourite of the album:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACtW-2hTPu4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mP8DU0k ... re=related

Still, not sure if they fit in the category, but these are easily some of the best dm riffs (and songs) i know.

Fleshgod Apocalypse 'The Egoism'. The 300bpm blast beats just make it that much more evil.

Seconding Override of the Overture.

Also by Dismember, pretty much everything from the first three albums. Some highlights:

Dismember - On Frozen Fields
- Fleshless
- Skinfather
- SKin Her Alive

The list could go on, but you get the point... Dismember rules.

Non-dismember awesomeness:

Malevolent creation - Multiple Stab Wounds

I'm going with Beyond Creation as the best band overall. Their album is definitely in my Top 10. So technical, so progressive...wonderful. It's got the works, plus the best fretless bass ever.

But best tremolo riff ever. Nah. I'm going to submit a melodic death metal song because, well, I believe that this is tremolo. I don't play, but I can read tabs, and they are way picking the 6th string at the beginning.

My personal favorite introductory tremolo riff is The Ibex Moon by Incantation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPGPLBB4oQA

In terms of evilness, this blows Beyond Creation's riff out of the water.

But it is hard to judge the most evil tremolo riff in death metal, since evil is subjective. Still, The Ibex Moon has several of my favorite death metal riffs all neatly packaged into one song.

Whenever I think about "epic tremolo riffs in death metal" Slit Your Guts and Phobophile (by Cryptopsy) jump instantly into my mind. It just doesn't get any better than that. Override of the Overture is also fantastic.

True evil and depravity is a sound that is hard to achieve. Incantation are one of the few bands that pull it off flawlessly.

On topic, not sure I can choose one riff that is my absolute favorite but one that popped into my mind instantly was the main riff from Close To A World Below.

My favorite tremolo-picked death metal riff (I know, cliche) is the solo riff under Rick's solo in "Pull the Plug." It was one of the first Death riffs I learned, and I absolutely love it. Heavy as fuck!

I'll second the "Opening of the Gates" Morbid Angel riff. It has such a twisted little melody.

Obituary's "Gates to Hell" is crushing. 'Nuf said.

OK riff rendered useless by the flow-killing tech faggotry that comes next.

My pick would be:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yrnK8_5C3w

The very first riff. I get a sickening, nauseating feel from it that I couldn't find anywhere else. Funny that the best death metal riff ever is buried at some generic brutal DM album from Netherlands.

My second pick would be the chorus riff in "Lord of All Fevers and Plague" by Morbid Angel. That is the most evil riff ever.

My 2 pence worth:

Possessed - The Exorcist (1:20)

http://youtu.be/-YfOGtXz4wg?t=1m20s

Morbid Angel - Visions from the Dark Side (0.23)

http://youtu.be/lW-Zur-LcL8?t=23s

I realise this is a huge generalisation but to my ears death sounds progressively worse the further it gets from thrash.

The tremolo riff in Crown of Horns, it's the second riff I think. Immolation - Nailed To Gold chorus riff also rules.

The whole album is a fucking master class in death metal evilness and especially trem riffs. Shit, I think that many of the bands mentioned could seriously learn a thing or two from it.

If we're talking evil trem riff... here you go one of my all time favourites. Necrophobic's The Third of Arrivals.
