I used to listen to porno and goregrind religiously, but now it all sounds like utter shit. Even the better bands of the genre (Cock & Ball Torture, Mortician, etc...) just sound like burping into a microphone who distorted bass rhythms in the background. I don't even know how these genres can fall under the "metal" spectrum of things when you have bands like King Diamond who keep setting the bar higher, while porno/goregrind seems to continually set it lower... and lower... and BREE BREE GURGGLE GURGGLE lower...

And on the same note, can't we all just confess that depressive BM is just a fancy name for "blackened emo"?

I think porno and goregrind are completely terrible. For the past two years, I've gone to MDF, and I'm always amazed at how many people are wearing goregrind shirts. Dudes are always walking around wearing shirts that say stuff like "Forcefed Human Shit." I dunno, it's just an embarrassing genre to me. I can't take it seriously.

And I think the DSBM = emo thing depends on the band. There are certainly some bands that are like that, but others (Noenum, for instance) don't fit under that classification at all.

Yes, of course it's awful, and only someone with the intellectual equivalence of Beavis and Butthead would walk around with a shirt that says "forcefed human shit," or "forcefucked with a chainsaw" or something stupid and think they are cool and fukin metal n shit. When people say death metal is nothing but puking on a guitar and screaming, they're actually talking about pornogrind.

I just checked the line-up for MDF this year and they've got fuckin' Doom and Dropdead (two of my favorite bands), not to mention Marduke, Neurosis, Vovoid, Acid Witch, and Corrosion of Conformity *squeels like a little school girl*!!!

i tried the pornogrind goregrind bullshit... not for me. one song gives me a sick laugh or 2, but an album is just repetition of the same bland breakdowns they do with the 5th string on the diminished 5th which sounds even more like shit. if it were diminished 5th as a chord progression that would be sweet but not as a chord used for chug-n-wank pig slaughter theme song. in standard tuning, just make a powerchord (the perfect 5th note harmony) and move your ring finger one fret closer to your index (diminished 5th) and chug it for a while. now make an album and there, your a goregrind artist.

Well, the diminished 5th is also the augmented fourth, but the more well-known term is the "tritone", the "devil's interval". It's interval is one of the dissonant ones, as opposed to the consonant ones (octave and major sixth, for example).

I dislike pornogrind because the music is shit. I found one song where most of it consisted of what seemed to be blast beats and...farts. Then again, there are the ridiculous song titles like Genital Burger, NastySuckerBitchesBrassOrchestra and The Atrociously Immense Phallus Of The Monster From Outer Space. But I'm not into most grind stuff, I dislike listening to a song for 30 seconds, so the fact I can't stand pornogrind at all isn't all that surprising.

Well, a very large portion of goregrind and an even larger portion of pornogrind are very much absolute crap. However, there are some bands in the goregrind genre that I enjoy, because they are either good at being creepy and depraved sounding or they're just plain fun. Can't say I'm a fan of pornogrind, but I'm sure some people like it for some legit reasons other than just "OH MAN SO BRUTAL!"

First of all everyone in this thread should probably shut the fuck up because I doubt any of you could consciously state what 'pornogrind' is (hint: it's a real genre but none of you assholes are aware of what its musical characteristics are). In addition, I hope you all realize that what you're saying about grind subgenres is the same thing that Agalloch fans say about death metal (and, in turn, classic rock fans say about Agalloch). Expecting more from the metal scene would be too much I suppose.

Its not the most sophisticated genre, but really, it doesnt need to be.
I am not a fan of gore/porn album covers or lyrics, but I really like some bands of that style and after all its the music that matters most.

Sometimes I dont want melody, solos or well structured songs; but just a massive groove or some grinding chaos and for that its perfect.
If all you hear is breeee, chug, chug, breeee you are maybe listening to the wrong bands to begin with and with Goregrind its just with all the other genres....you have to sift through some shit to find the pearls.

BTW, I dont why someone mentioned breakdowns, goregrind usually doesnt have all that much of them.

I like porno and goregrind. It may not have much artistic merit but that's not the point of it at all. Pornogrind is groovy fun and goregrind strives for being more brutal than any other music.
