It always shocks and saddens me to learn of news like this. When I first heard Joe's vocal style it blew me away - his deep gutteral growl was unique and unlike many other vocalists of that time. Those early Broken Hope recordings will always live on and Bowels Of Repugnance is a landmark for brutal Death Metal. RIP Joe.

:aww: This is sad news, I really like Broken Hope and have a few of their albums. My friend is a huge fan, he's got this amazing Broken Hope logo tattooed on his upper arm, it wraps all the way around and finishes up in his armpit which forms a mouth screaming.. it's the bollox! He'll be sad too.

R.I.P Joe.

That's the way a good man should be praised, with the word "brutal" spelled just like it is in the dictionary.

Sad news indeed. I haven't been in the mood for death metal lately, but I'll be sure and give The Bowels of Repugnance a spin as well as a toast to his contribution to metal.

This is absolutely shitty and shocking. I'll be playing Broken Hope at the very least all weekend in honor of Joe. Fuck, I was looking forward to a reunion as well.

This is unfortunate news. I ran into him a few times, many years ago, and he seemed like a decent guy.

tisn't fair, these guys totally had something going for them. i had only found out about them a couple months ago but i totally fell in love with them (Swamped for me, Loathing's good but bleh...doesn't click like SoG does) and was thrilled to read about the possible reformation

why can't like chris barnes or some other useless, boring, vocalist be the one to pull the trigger on life. BLEH "injustices of Heavy Metal" fuckin eh

I guess being in a band named that way you have to expect this kind of thing.

Yeah I've always loved 'Swamped In Gore' and 'Bowels of Repugnance'...in 2005, I used always say that Broken Hope's first two records were a superior alternative to early 90s Cannibal Corpse.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Anal Blast just walk around with assless chaps shitting projectile diarrhea on their fans/strangers/loved ones. Your sense of logic is unattainable by humans and chimps alike.

This is so getting put in my sig.

Broken Hope definitely needs more positive reviews. Or actually, just more reviews.

Yeah, The first 2 are classics. I think the others are way underrated, especially Grotesque Blessings. I really enjoy that album, and im not sure why it got such a low review percentage.

Worthless band, but sucks regardless. By the way, the guy from Anal Blast DID live that way. People say he smeared shit all over his apartment.

Cause this is totally the right thread to be making jokes in. I've never really listened to Broken Hope, but I do know the little bit I've heard I did enjoy. Definitely not a happy occasion.

Why not? It's not like he was taking unfairly, he wanted to go. The guy's in a better place now, at least in his opinion. So cheers to him, may he rest in the peace he was looking for.

Oh shit. I might have mistaken this internet thread for a funeral (or the Symposium). I didn't say I was happy that he died or disrespectful.

This is indeed sad news. he took death metal vocals to a whole new level. Bowels of Repugnance was brutal, heavy, yet dark and forboding at the same time - a classic.

I was really looking forward to the reunion. He will be missed.

Funny, nobody seems to really care about the individual himself but only about the band and their album that they released...

Why should someone care about an individual they don't know or have never met? Does it not make sense that people here associate this guy with his music, and not him as an individual? This is not a suicide prevention message board.

To honor someone in death, you speak of their accomplishments and what unique and great things they added to the world. Praising Ptacek's sick motherfucking roar is the best way to mourn him.
