From Blabbermouth:

Dutch death metal veterans PESTILENCE have re-recorded twelve emblematic anthems from across their 38-year career for a new album called "Levels Of Perception". Due on April 26 via Agonia Records, the effort will be preceded by a three-week long headlining tour of Europe, which kicks off on April 3.

https://blabbermouth.net/news/pestilence-re-records-classic-songs-for-levels-of-perception-best-of-album

Track listing:

01. Horror Detox (re-recording)
02. Mvlti Dimensional (re-recording)
03. Mobvs Propagationem (re-recording)
04. Sinister (re-recording)
05. Dehydrated (re-recording)
06. Dominatvi Svbmissa (re-recording)
07. Land Of Tears (re-recording)
08. Necromorph (re-recording)
09. Deificvs (re-recording)
10. Twisted Truth (re-recording)
11. Sempiternvs (re-recording)
12. Ovt of the Body (re-recording)

I kind of liked Exitivm but this is probably gonna turn out a total shitshow. There are no songs from Malleus Maleficarum, and many of the tracks are from the albums after Patrick Mameli reformed the band – I mean they can hardly be called classics right?

Also, this;

The drums for "Levels Of Perception" were recorded by Michiel Van Der Plicht in 2021, during a live stream held in T Paard (The Hague, NL). "These recorded drum tracks were so awesome that we just had to use them, fine-tuning the guitars and bass," Mameli comments. These and other re-recordings were done with Reaper behind the console at Van Der Plicht's own studio On Duty in Mijdrecht, NL. The latter engineered, mixed and mastered the album.

I mean WTF?

Then again – how much worse can it be considering how bad some of the new albums are.

I wonder also who thought that cover is a good idea. Nevermind, probably Mameli himself.

Why is "Twisted Truth" not "Twisted Trvth"?

Are we so caught up in the past that that we do not embrace technology? Is recording with tape better than digital daws. Is taking a polaroid picture better than the newest tech phone? It's still about the music and lyrics and that's REAL!!!

Mameli is apparently throwing a tantrum over the negative reception over the dogshit AI generated artwork for this already unnecessary release

not checking this out because 1) i don’t like neo-pestilence 2) i’m p generally against re-recordings.

but man, what the fuck is that album cover? i don’t like it, but i understand there will possibly be a time when ai-generated art will be so advanced it can actually look good enough to be on an album cover. but this is so far from that it makes me question if that time will ever come. what even were they going for here? star trek fan film as done by a boardwalk caricaturist? regardless of substance, it doesn’t even look like it’s in high-enough resolution. imagine paying money for the lp and just getting this nightmare blob of pixels. is mameli okay?

The mere fact that TwistedTruth and the awful "there's some girl weeping" Land Of Tears are here instead of much better better Testimony songs like Secrecies of Horror, Lost Souls or Presence of the Dead makes me uninterested for this album.
And where the fuck is 'Bacterial Surgery' ?

Oh wait... the chosen songs are "emblematic anthems"
haha. Whatever. In that case they should have chosen 'Commandments' as well then since that was the song on the StarsOnThrash 1988 compilation album by which many people internationally got introduced to Pestilence

Totally vnnecessary release. Rerecordings are never a good idea. I'm also not digging the stvpid gimmick in the way they retitled these songs, plvs the artwork is absolvtely terrible. What the actval fvck were they thinking...

Awesome, in my opinion I haven't REALLY heard a 90s death metal song until I've heard it with protools and tired middle aged performances.

Just when it seemed like 2000s photoshop was the dark ages of album covers, AI happens.

I like new Pestilence, but try to ignore Mameli as much as I can. Anyone remember his reaction to Quest for Metal's Pestilence album ranking video?

1. That AI cover looks fucking horrible. Everyone should continue telling Mameli this, relentlessly.
2. Re-recordings like this almost never go well. See: that time In Flames re-recorded some songs from "Clayman" and butchered them in the process.

Trouble with Mameli is, he has a bipolar disorder and can explode about the simplest things. Often about things many others would just shrug off and forget a minute later.
It's actually pretty sad.

Dude's mental health is his responsibility, and if he's that mercurial and unstable, he probably isn't doing shit to manage it. Dude's a Goatse-sized asshole and I don't particularly care what the underlying pathology is.

How anyone can take Pestilence seriously these days is a mystery. The classic albums rule, but Mameli's online presence (and taste-level) is just pathetic

I remember he himself or a bandmate let it slip around the time of the MetalSucks controversy about him using the N word. When was that, in 2018 or 2019?
It explained a lot about his erratic and often hostile reactions.
As someone else here said it does not justify it though. He can't go on attacking people the whole time

I love the older Pestilence records, I can't really say the same for their post-reunion albums. But the only cover of those ones, that I think is laughably bad, is for "Doctrine". This "new album" is still easily worse than the other 4. Although the cover for "Resurrection Macabre" seems pretty half-assed, so now that I just looked at it for comparison, I think I would only give that one a slight edge, over the new one.

They changed it LOL

Patrick Mameli wrote:
First off, let me be absolutely clear about the fact that both band and record company still love this cover. Also, the artist that created this art, did not let the computer generate this picture. He used multiple methods to come to this result. So it's not just A.I. in the real sense.
But the point I'm getting at, is this: I will not risk all the work we have put into this release, just to push the cover. We care a lot about our fans and we do not want this product not to be a success just because we want to push our ideas regarding A.I. We have always stood at the forefront of game changing events within the d.m. scene, whether it's music or in this case, a cover.
Maybe the timing is not right just now, so we chose the middle way. This should make people more open to this monster of a release we have planned for y'all.
Peace,
Patrick

much, much worse than the Pestilence one imo, which at least I can see the appeal of the band members rendered in cybernetic garb in clunky AI. but this. the tongue! looks like it was rescaled in legacy MS Paint.

The new Pestilence cover's not great but at least it's not AI, lol. Still quite skeptical of its contents but we'll see what happens.

That Deicide art is so baaaadddddddd. Wouldn't be caught dead wearing a shirt with that shit on it.

I got huge The Chaos Engine (Bitmap Brothers' game) vibes from the original cover.

It would have been the perfect time to re-record some tracks from the Spheres era, given the guitar tone on this album has been drown in a pool of mud.
But no. Let's re-record recent tracks instead.
And yes Mameli seems to be fucked up, his FB page is a complete cringe-fest, from daily post-workout selfies to flat-earth crap videos.
