DOES NOT FIT:

Image

Seriously...what the fuck.

FITS:

Image

A lot going on in the image, yet it fits together to form some strange unity, much like the technicality of the music. The image also indicates danger and pain, which the non-metal listener might experience when they hear Suffocation for the first time.

I am a bit suprised that noone has posted some of Urfaust's covers, but actually I am glad that it is so. I get the chance of showing some serious fucked up black metal beauty to the people here:
Image
Drei Rituale Jenseits Des Kosmos simply couldn't have a more fitting cover. We see a fuck-knows-what playing an organ of obscure sorts in a rather gloomy place, and, hey, that's what the actual music is. Droning-ambient black metal insanity.

Image
And of course Einsiedler. The cover's awesome, and the music's even more awesome, but I dare say that they both be on different topics. The cover suggests of some dark creatures searching for something, going somewhere, but the actual music is a minimalistic ritual black metal goodness, that could've benefited more from a picture of more medidative kind.

Image
also, the cover from Urfaust's split with the Ruins of Beverast is just fucking brilliant. I still haven't found out what artist is responsible for this, but, damn, it's impressive and it complements the dark and deranged sound Urfaust has on this release quite well. Raw and demented bm.

Same with this one. Amazing album, probably Pestilence's best, but what the fuck?

I'd say that fits the title of the album quite nicely... I mean, I haven't heard it, but works rather well in the context.

The music is for the most part shit (though it is still forest black metal, so I guess it fits), but this guy sure has excellent taste when it comes to album artwork:

I wish more bands would release their albums without their name and album title ruining the cover artwork.

The band's logo is one of my favorite parts of the artwork. I love me a good logo.

What band made those albums anyway?

Yeah, I know what you mean. There's something very fitting and mystical in a cover consisting of just a landscape, a painting or otherwise another full image, no words, no logos. Specially for black metal.

Very fitting:

Image

Bleak, grey, cold winter. Lonely and slightly obscured by fog. Very similar to the music (Coldworld - Melancholie²)

Also, Urfaust does have amazing covers as shown by Cuntadin.

That's some nice photography, but it looks like a Flickr page, not a discography.

Those ones feel a lot more like post rock covers than foresty black metal, so I'd hardly call those fitting covers.

Agreed, which is why I bought an Icon shirt. Too bad the other albums couldn't have good art. The art for the others were boring, especially for ICP, which was very simplistic and generic.

I agree on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, very cold, dark and evil album and the cover fits it perfectly. This is pretty similar:

Morbid - December Moon

Not as simplistic but fits well anyway.

Burzum: Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, probably one of the most fitting album covers I've seen.

Image

Vesania: Distractive Killusions, another very fitting album cover, gives a creepy court-jester-like feeling, as does the music.

Image

Amon Amarth: Versus the World, very literal

Image

Also, all of Nile's albums have very fitting album covers to their Egyptian themes

There are a whole bunch I could think of, but this one currently comes to mind:

Image
I find listening to this during Autumn boosts its connectivity, mainly due to the artwork. The themes fit the artwork perfectly (although, an easy theme to match), and even the music.

This looks like some kind of 70's prog rock album, not Black/Death metal.

That first cover sucks. I like the second one, although I agree it doesn't look like a black/death metal album cover. What band is it?

That would be Lo-Ruhamah.

I happen to love this artwork--and the album, but I don't think it fits. However, I am a little bit on the fence about this one. Since the art work is so unexpected--it's simple, minimalistic, colorful. It may actually suit the album more than some cliche 'metal' imagery of forests or what have you. And, when this album came out it was very ground breaking. Unexpected art for unexpected music, perhaps.

I'm going to get some shit for these but here we go:

Does --

Image
The (two) songs vary from icy to firey and overall dark.

Image
Opeth's My Arms Your Hearse. Fairly shitty band, rather good album, but the cover is essentially the music. Dark, atmospheric, and hazy.

Doesn't --

Image
You expect some awesome violent death metal but instead you get some shitty wankery that is far from violent.

Definitely have to agree with the Emperor and Dissection artwork. Absolutely perfect.

Image

This also captures the atmosphere of the music but not to the extent that In The Nightside Eclipse does.

Doesn't:

Image

Well.....I don't know if it's whether it fits or not, but it certainly doesn't live up to the brilliance of Coroner's music.
