Emperor - The Burning Shadows of Silence
...I still don't think I get it. I listen to Emperor every couple of months to see if I get it, but it doesn't hold appeal that a lot of black metal does for me.

I've had the very same "problem", if you should call it that, too. Then, only very few months ago, I gave "In the Nightside Eclipse" another attempt at listening closely, and it suddenly resonated with me, although I have no idea as to what the reasons for this sudden change in perception were (a point of connection for me was the ostensible similarity with Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas", one of my favourite black metal albums). Nonetheless, I suddenly came to understand the influence it exerted on many black metal bands, which I believe is - especially in branches of contemporary black metal like the so-called Orthodox movement, in my opinion - an incredibly prevalent one. Still, it isn't one of my most personally appreciated works in black metal, but I now consider it a very good album, as opposed to a mediocre to outright bland one, like I had previously thought of it.
Maybe I will soon revise my (firmly negative) opinion on Emperor's other albums, too, although I still cannot imagine myself liking any of them, other than possibly "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk".

In the Nightside Eclipse is sounding better every time I re-listen, but at the same time, I think I'm still missing the "point". I get the same with DMDS actually - it has great moments, but it's never an album which cries out "listen to me!" when I scroll past it or see it on my shelves.
Electric Wizard - Ivixior B/Phase Inducer
...this needs to stop. There are so many bands that I need to listen too more, and I'm still stuck in the psychedelic wilderness of Electric Wizard... It's not unpleasant, but I used to listen to so much more variety.

Blut Aus Nord - Son of Hoarfrost

Absu - Pillars of Mercy
This band should be required listening, they're so good.

Absu - A magician's Lapis-Lazuli
Hail Sir Proscriptor! Just watch him perform live! He´s so enthusiastic it almost seems that he can´t decide whether he enjoys singing or smashing his drumkit more.

Darkspace - Dark 3.11
Holy fuck! I am just discovering this band...why have I not listened before? This is amazing.

This was the first Meshuggah track I heard ... it´s still one of my favorite ones!!

Trail of Murder - Your Silence As Empyreal described this is indeed very vocal-oriented heavy metal Well, those sound awesome and though I don't really know what to think of the album so far I assume it's a decent album after all. Maybe not great, but enjoyable enough.

That style of black metal is not something I always enjoy but Darkspace are just awesome. Dark Space III is the best, really. Can't wait for IV. Red Harvest - HyBreed The best Red Harvest album by a country mile. Every song is unique and the 78 minutes of running time goes by in a fraction. You know you've made a great album when that happens. In my top 10 albums of all time.

Hate - Anaclasis (and the rest of the extremely long title) All the talk about their upcoming 2013 album has made me recheck some of their albums I already knew for years and some others I hadn't heard properly. As things stand now I'm feeling like there's little love to be found on albums prior to this one, when they were more of a second rate Deicide. I rather prefer them being a second rate Behemoth!

With that being said: Neurosis - Souls At Zero Probably the most influential hybrid of metal and hardcore of the past 20 years. What a monolithic transition from the rather "regular" hardcore roots of the band into this massively experimental piece of music. Just wonderful!
