Fates Warning - Epitaph

This song is something else. It never seems to get mentioned in discussions on incredible epics, but it damn well should be! 'Epitaph' is nothing less than an 11:57 journey from life to death.

Listening to this for the first time ever this morning, and I just noticed I've had it on repeat for about two hours now.

Ikuinen Kaamos - Closure

Opeth worship that indubitably surpasses anything Opeth have ever done. Sadly, this 3-track EP is just about the best thing they've ever put out; with everything else just paling in comparison.

Death - Empty Words

This album seems a bit clunky and over-long, but at the same time I like the style and I can really hear Chuck's passion for metal seeping through. The riffs and leads are excellent and the vocals, while they'd be horrible in any other context, work surprisingly well when delivered with such conviction and energy as they are here. This is technical and spazzy, but tied together with an old school ethic of songwriting recalling the best era of Metallica - maybe it's also the dry guitar tone that reminds me of them, too. Either way, good shit.

The problem that I have with that album, is that the riffs something sound a bit lackluster. But then again, the flashy leads are some of the Death's finest so I guess that makes it up for it.

Have you listened to the song Mayday? Because damn, Midnight just sounds like a fuckin' eagle on that track.

Necrophobic - La Santísima Muerte, off Death to All

Great use of Spanish lyrics on this tune, not to mention that it's bloody vicious death/black metal.

One of their best songs. That galloping pace paired with Roy's vocals is just a winning combination.

NP: Sonata Arctica - The Last Amazing Grays

I've been listening to their discography in chronological order this weekend, and this song always reaffirms my belief that The Days of Grays is a masterwork of their new style. Sure, it has a missed solo opportunity in that mid-section, but no matter. That glorious outro makes up for it.

That's a good tune, I love the chorus sections in the first half. They're a very polarizing band because of their numerous experimentations these days, but I think it makes them unique and worth watching. There's nobody else really doing what they're doing.

Bloodbound - Tabula Rasa Pt. 2 - Nothing Left

Chugging, spacey prog metal with Urban Breed, can't go wrong.

We all know that I despise Unia, but I agree that The Days of Grays is a really solid album with some of their best songs (mainly, "Deathaura" and "Flag in the Ground"). Sure it's different, sure it's not wholly metal, and sure it's fluffy and poppy, but that doesn't automatically equate to being bad. At least for me.

Days of Grays is basically just a proggy pop album. Unia is my favorite personally from them though. That one helped me through some hard times a few years back.

I'm listening to that song right now and you're right. holy fuck does this sounds good. The riffs recall early-mid 80's Judas Priest while the vocals are something that really can't compared to anyone else.

I know what I'll try to cover vocally for the upcomming days.

Altar of Oblivion - Graveyard of Broken Dreams

Vocals-only intros to songs sometimes work really well, and while not super-smooth, I think this is one of them.
