How the fuck did this get a 40% rating?

Vektor - Asteroid

Today is definitely a Vektor day. They don't come along often, but they're enjoyable. A lot of the time, whilst describing them as "excellent", I have little desire to listen to anything of Vektor's persuasion, but occasionally, I absoloutely love their music.

Cattle Decapitation - Monolith of Inhumanity

Some people seem to be surprised that this album turned out so well and amazing, but I never had any doubts.

I wasn't exactly surprised, but I it turned out more enjoyable than I thought.

I listened to nocturnus-the key all the way through on my ride home from college today. It's been one of my main favorite albums for a relatively long time.

This album is a big accomplishment in terms of tallent. Just the way it sounds is kind of astounding to listen to. This album is brimming with tight, frantic and precise playing, atmosphere and fun. It is incredibly well made and old school sounding.

To me if nocturnus would have spent a little less time with busy playing and perhaps simplified themselves, it would create more catchy parts, thus it would be easier to headbang to (They pulled off nicely in the song in B.C/A.D. In my opinion). Although, I get the feeling this relentless "busy" sound is what makes them technical, and they can't deviate really to much from what makes them technical.

I wasn't fond of the ambiant passages. I feel as if the ambiant passages in "the key," perhaps tie into the lyrics(?), in some way adding a little of the Sci-fi atmosphere. I havent read the lyrics and I found myself tuning out these parts and feeling a little bored. To me though, the quality of rest of the album definitely makes up for these misgivings I have for the ambiant parts, irronically, I said I wished they would simplify themselves earlier. I suppose inconsistancy is the main gripe I have here. The whole feeling of an album is important to me when listening all the way through.

Me trying to describe this album is largely a vain effort, and I likely have end up sounding pretentious to the seasoned metalheads here. I don't mean to sound misconstrued to you when I attempt to make sense of it. I can hardly even attest to how much I love this album. If theres anyone who actually read this, I apologize. I admit I likely sound as I have no clue what i'm saying. I'm only writing this for fun, because I'm on the job and have nothing better to do \m/

The music on this album has been described as many things before, but it's the first time I stumble over the label "tech death"...

np:

Dordeduh - Flacararii

"Dar De Duh" till has to grow on me, it's definitely good, and way better than the Negura Bunget post-split album, but the rather repetitive build-up of the songs makes it difficult for me to keep listening attentively until the end.

I agree with you on the build-up but i still think its one hell of an album.

Fear Factory - Mechanize

Better than The Industrialist. Better than Demanufacture. Fear Factory bought out their best work in Mechanize, a pounding album with Burton's best cleans and music that I don't think they can top. Fantastic album. The first half especially rips.

You have the best descriptions, man. But yeah, Dark Space III is solid from start to finish. That riff that fades the album out is so awesome. I look forward to IV!

Starring Janet Leigh - Spectrum

About 4 people on this site would enjoy this, heh. Tech-death randomness but something I enjoy from time to time (this album is tough to take on multiple listens or too frequently).

Verdunkeln - Weder Licht noch Schatten

Damn. Throughout this twelve minute bruiser, there is a insidious melody, quietly haunting the background underneath the very weighty and meaty guitars. Verdunkeln though, I'm pleased to say, still retain that feeling of channeling the post punk movement of the eighties, which works with fantastic results.
