Enslaved - Frost (album)

I'm warming up to see them on Saturday with Wardruna. I just can't get into them... I love Norwegian black metal, I love viking metal, but Enslaved is just so boring. I appreciate their talent, but something about them does not appeal to me at all. EDIT: I'm not talking shit about them, just venting frustration over not understanding why I never got into any of their albums, when they should be ideal for me and my tastes.

Seriously? You shouldn't listen to Frost, it has to be the most boring Enslaved album out there. If you want to get to know them, listen to Eld for the old-era Viking Enslaved, or to Riitiir/Axioma Ethica Odini for the new material. More progressive, more influenced by other genres. Don't make up your opinion based on what you hear on Frost:)

Well. Wasn't too keen on the debut by the Watain inspired Aussie black metallers, but holy fuck, this new album seems to be spitting fire, and the artwork owns.. It has a burly, mean sound, which is still rough around the edges, but with loads of malevolent power. Might have to pick up a copy.

Yeah it's killer, definitely get a copy. I agree, a definite step beyond the debut. The new songs are amazing live too (even though I saw them in daylight)

I recommend you check out their split with Blaze of Perdition for another track somewhere in that same vibe, it's on Bandcamp for a ridiculously low starting price.

I myself just finished listening to the debut EP by Infernal for the hundredth time or so. Again, again...

Love Maniacs vocals here.

Cradle of Filth - The Twisted Nails of Faith

The sound quality on "Cruelty and the Beast" definitely holds the album back. I still find it listenable though, but those drums get on my nerves.

Anaal Nathrakh - So Be It

They pretty much destroy At The Gates with this song.

Mortiis - Keiser av en dimensjon ukjent

Started playing the original Baldur's Gate recently, this would make an appropriate soundtrack. Need to get the album before this as well.

I need to give that Erebus Enthroned a listen. Love the artwork too, reminds me of 'Altar's' Paramnesia and 'Grave Miasma's' Odori...

ElvenStorm - Reign In Glory

This is actually an interesting band. This is some good German sounding power metal with a pretty good female vocalist. Her accent is prominent sometimes but this is good shit nonetheless.

Wolf - Skeleton Woman

This is my first listen to their new album as well as my first listen to the band and I must say I'm not sure how I missed out on these guys. This album is powerful and crunchy with some great guitar work. Another good find.

^ Try out Black Flame or Legion of Bastards; those are the really awesome ones. New one ain't half bad though...I dig the bass-heavy guitar crunch.

Hammerfall - Live Life Loud

Lots of fun so far. The bar is set low with these guys but this is their best in years, probably since the actual early material itself. Joacim is delivering maybe the performance of his life and the instrumentals are fresh and fun.

edit: A few weaker songs, but overall an extremely solid album.

Goreaphobia - Vile Beast of Abomination

While I think their full lengths are their strongest works, I really enjoy the gritty, rough-around-the-edges Death Metal they played in the demos compiled here.

Grave Declaration - The Great Exaltation of the Most Sovereign God

This EP is just as good as the album. I love this band.

Wolfshead - Personal Venom

Getting used to the gruff vocals isn't the easiest thing ever but once you're past that hurdle it's pretty damn awesome heavy/doom.

Mike LePond's Silent Assassins - Red Death

This sounds pretty good except Alan Tecchio's voice can be grating. We'll see how the rest of the album holds up.

Hirax - Demons Evil Forces

Appreciation of American thrash... rekindled. This sort of thing manages to preserve the excitement I felt when I was first discovering thrash, despite the ravages of my being since desensitised by heavier things of the black and death persuasion.

Kreator- Terribile Certainty

I have to admit, over time the album itself has not aged well, but its very easy to see why this is a live staple.

Kauan-IV

The best song of the album, IMO. A beautiful mixture between the old and new Kauan.

Lets see what they have to offer with the upcoming album!

Thunder and Lightning - Torn in Two

It's like this album was made specifically for me. A synthesis of the best elements of the oft-underappreciated dark PM sound propagated by bands like Morgana Lefay, Tad Morose, Arch Nemesis and Brainstorm. Great vocals, catchy songs and chunky, headbanging riffs galore, plus a cool lyrical story about a girl who takes over the grim reaper's job. Marvelous work.

I've always thought very little, especially when stacked up against a better version of that sound like early Katharsis stuff, or just associated entities like Desaster and Absu. I do like Terror Abraxas quite a bit though, their EPs often seem better than their full-lengths.

Too cheesy for me since I was expecting a Black Metal band.

This band is quite solid!

I have to check the full album but it sounds very promising, and the slightlty cleaner production helps a lot.

It does!

I listened to (2005) Nokturnal Mortum - Weltanschauung too while coming back from holidays (http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2014/08/vacaciones-de-buceo-en-la-costa-azul-de.html). Nice album from a quite solid and personal band.

I just listened to (1992) Incantation - Onward To Golgotha for the first time.
Not my death metal cup of tea. LOL!

Meh. Jayson gets more attention than he deserves for this.

A very interesting album, perhaps the production is the weakest part of this work, it sounds slightly weak and low, doesnt it??

But there some great songs.

Right now:

Yes the production is quite weak compared to his previous album (Evighet/Untergang) but I still like it. It's less harsh but more atmospheric which I like.

NP: Hellveto - Klatwa

Excellent eastern european black metal with slight folky influences. For the fans of Slavland, Dub Buk, Nokturnal Mortum, Kroda,...

Grave - Them Bones (Alice In Chains cover)

An interesting choice of song to cover but one that really has some sick riffs to it originally. Grave speeds it up a bit and I am impressed with Ola's handling of the chorus as he gets the feeling across while still growling quite deeply.

What's left to say about this epic? Every section builds on the previous one until it reaches its climax at over 7 minutes in. Amazing stuff.

Amazing live album. Fuck, I wish I could see these guys live. The different endings. The extended jam sessions. Brilliant. And that 'Hallelujah' cover. Damn.
