Kronos - Colossal Titan Strife

Very melodic for brutal death metal, indeed. Very enjoyable too.

This...actually sounds a lot less shit than I remember it sounding years ago. :| I just might check this out in more detail.

NP: Kraanium - "Choking on Rectal Discharge"
The murky guitar tone...

Hey, at least we might have one thing in common then!

Nox Arcana - Night of the Wolf

If another Legacy of Kain video game is ever released, Nox Arcana should compose the soundtrack. They're made for each other.

Recently I've gotten Asphyx's 'Deathhammer' and their 'Live Death Doom' supercompilation. Not long before this I had 'found' this band as was just blown away by 'Death...The Brutal Way'. Man, what an album, and this coming from an oldtimer; a conservative, Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, Running Wild, Grave Digger fan whose most "extreme" moments might be likeing Sodom or Kreator, Celtic Frost or Coroner. Yeah, I know, stuck in the 80s.
Anyway, 'D...tBW' was awesome, right up in my wheelhouse as some might say. And one thing I really liked, apart from the other things that clicked, was the production; just perfect for my stereo system. But the two albums I just got are nearly aweful when it comes to those same production values. My car stereo equalizer, which is always nearly flat except for one upper treble adjustment needs to be radically positioned on both these albums. The lower end, especially on the live album gets a pretty solid boost but it is the upper midrange and lower treble that needs an amazing, to me (with 700 CDs in my collection), adjustment towards to lesser end. Something I don't think I've ever had to do before in such a radical fasion except in the case of bootleg recordings.

Black Breath - Razor to Oblivion

I ordered both of their albums and their EP. So far just the EP has arrived, and I'm loving it - the tone is crushing, the songs are memorable, and the riffs are tasty as hell.

Septicflesh - Magic Loves Infinity

I think I lost count as to how many times I've spun this album.

Groovy but just like most material on the new record really average at best.

Bathory - Twilight of the Gods

I've never understood artistic significance of that little epileptic-seizure which seems to happen to the bass just before the solo, but It's definitely a distinct part of an epic song.

Oh, they released that song already?

Katatonia - Without God

Am I the only one who thinks the harsh vocals are half-assed here? If they had more meat to them, they'd work a lot better.

Steel Prophet - Dreamer Deceiver (Judas Priest cover)

Man, this is a great cover (especially considering how difficult it is to cover Priest without making a fool of yourself). And Mythiasin reigns supreme, as always. Guy nails down the vocal performance to a T, not something many singers could presume when it comes to a song like this one.

Type O Negative - Christian Woman

A serene song. I enjoy the contemplative aspect of listening to things like this - It reminds me that my taste in metal has evolved so much, gotten much more broad, and I'm just enjoying the ride through the music.

Nice! He raped that really high note part. i'd put that particular moment on par with Halford.

Katatonia - Nerve

Why does it seem like all the death/doom pioneers went on to do gothic/atmospheric rock? They still made great stuff, but this is getting weird.
