Marduk - Sulphur Souls

They never seemed to be able to match the sheer brilliance of this album.

The Gathering- On Most Surfaces

I've heard most of the songs on Nighttime Birds, but never listened to it start-to-finish until right now.

Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris

Really, after 4 years I've never suprised by any death metal albums, can someone suggest me an album and more epic than this?

BlackSStorm - Fuck Christ Noïse - Four mon Amour [demo]

If you are really like black metal-noise music, then this is good example.

For me this is best album of all time. Post-Punk is really good choice if someone pick this album.

Kartikeya - Samudra (2017)

Progressive Vedic death metal.... out of Russia?! Happy to report there's substance behind the novelty factor - these guys have delivered a very organic and expansive listening experience. Really enjoying this.

Arrayan Path - Lotus Eyes

Nicholas Leptos is a goddamn powerhouse of a singer. Just bellowing wails and tons of charisma. So fucking good - music is grooving, power metal guitars and crashing drums and ominous keys. Very cool.

Always a little surprising when you find things like that, even if it's a completely mundane thing.

Excommunion - Thronosis (2017)

Crushing DM release that particularly excels when it slows things down to a lurching crawl.

Calling this 4-track, sub-30 min release an album is a stretch though. This would have benefited from shorter, tighter songs and just calling it an EP.

Call me a new fan though! :headbang:

Gojira - From Mars to Sirius (full)

I honestly didn't remember it to be so good.
I love the creative riffs and the drumming, wich is both insane and restrained at the same time

Iced Earth - Alive In Athens

After binging on Nevermore, I'm staying with bands I worshipped in my late teens. Years later, I'm with the whiny old-schoolers' opinion on Iced Earth - I didn't really like much of this band's material after Horror Show. However, they used to be really good when Schaffer's songwriting tank wasn't empty, and this live record smokes.

My friends used to watch often this live: i'm not a fan of Iced Earth at all, but it was enjoyable even for me. Dante's Inferno in particular

Alive in Athens rules.

NP: Paradise Lost - The Longest Winter

Heavy Type O vibes on this one. Medusa is good stuff!

Same. Particularly, Something Wicked was huge for me. I bought it just as I was getting into metal that wasn't as well known as the big names. I feel like you can take all the albums from after Horror Show, pick a few songs off each and make one incredible Iced Earth record, but there is just too much filler on each one now.

Thrawsunblat- “She Who Names the Stars”

With this year coming to a close, I felt like revisiting my AOTY from 2016. This is still my favorite from last year.

Helloween- The Departed (The Sun Is Going Down)

Thoughts on this song? The opening riff is awesome, but there are pieces of it that nudge it uncomfortably toward rap metal territory.

I don't see why it'd be uncomfortable if it's a good, creative song - which it is and part of why Helloween during that era was so much better than bands like Gamma Ray or whatever.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime in the car

Geoff Tate on this album is probably the best vocal performance I can think of from a technical/theatrical point... he is a goddamn powerhouse. Every time I think someone else is close, I go back and hear this again and it's obviously not even the same league.

Briton Rites - Karnstein Castle

Epic, plodding, riff-laden doom metal of the highest caliber. Howie Bentley does an incredible job on vocals on this track. This whole album is a supreme example of doom metal in the 21st century!
