Schammasch - Triangle

This capitalizes on what was good about Secrets of the Moon with less of what was bad. As a 3CD album though, there are a few filler tracks that could've been better off absent.

Man I gotta hear Triangle, I fucking love Schammasch. Contradiction is a monster, probably one of the greatest double-albums. No filler on that one.

NP: Striborg - A Lonely Walk In A Desolate Cold Pine Forest

Lo-fi euphoria.

Entombed - Clandestine

I like it when death metal is both groovy and badass. I don't believe I've heard a death metal album surpass Clandestine in these respects. :p

Babylon Whores - Cold Heaven

Like King Fear, and Death of the West, I love this too. It sounds a little bit more raw than the other two maybe. Still same quality.

Cloven Hoof - Reach for the Sky

We glide in our silver birds - got to do or DIEEEEEEEEEE!

Plenty of other kick ass releases such as Matthias Steele's Haunting Tales of a Warrior's Past and Adramelch's Irae Melanox suffered from a bad production but with this album I really got to overlook it. I mean it sounds noisy and all but the songwriting is just so efficient and Russ North's vocals are awe inspiring...

Root - The Wall

This is still one of the great, weird metal bands... the riffs are colossal and that tone; Jesus! Heavier than a fucking anvil. Just one of those times where everything came together beautifully.

Argentum - Ad Interitum Funebrarum

This was recommended by colin040 and, despite my preconceptions about the "black metal" part of this release, it's very fluid doom metal with a lot of melodic lead work and pretty grim yet reverent atmosphere.

The riffier version of Temple of Love on that comp is lethal.

Also jamming some goth rock this morning, NP: Nosferatu - Lucy is Red. :metal:

Celtic Frost - 'A Dying God...'

Ain's performance here is probably the best thing about the album.

R.I.P.

Temple Of Void - Wretched Banquet

Incredible death metal - they write megachugging, heavy, snappy riffs and have the right feel for guitar tone to make this kind of music. Love it.

Cradle of Filth - Vengeful Spirit

Probably the most 'fun' song from the excellent Cryptoriana, and the one with the most prominent use of female vocals.

Your Chance to Die - Skinwalker

One of my favorite songs off the band's most recent record, Ex Nihilo. Love Som Pluijmers' vocals (ex-Cerebral Bore).

Esoteric - Circle

That middle section is probably the most intense thing I've ever listened to, which makes it at the very top of my favourite tracks overall.

^Yes, totally. I happened to spin that (well, on my iPod) for the first time in years last night. That song is of the highlights of their career.

Moana's Return by Solar Fragment.

Overlooked album. Probably the best song off it.

Oh yes. Their last two albums were my favorite. The latter being more melodic than their previous hardcore punk influenced record. Drown the Monster, Face Down and Narcoleptic are some of the catchiest output they have.

NP: Brutal Truth - Sounds of The Animal Kingdom

I'm going through a nostalgia trip here, listening grindcore records they led me towards extreme music.

Love seeing some White Lung fans on here. Deep Fantasy and Paradise are two of my favourite records of the last 5 years, and Sorry isn't all that bad, itself.

Venom- Live Like An Angel
One of my favourites from the debut album.

I agree. Last few albums have been a ton of fun.

Have either of you listened to the album Burst from Brutus? White Lung is probably the most apt comparison I can think of for this album, but there's way more going on than what White Lung does (in my opinion, of course). Incredibly dynamic album. I recommend it every chance I get because it really floored me. One of my faves of 2017.

NP: Fever Ray - To the Moon and Back
This came out of nowhere. 10 years of silence, it's nice to have something new. The song is in stark contrast to the first album, being pretty upbeat and cheery. I do like the track, but I hope it's not indicative of the whole album's tone. If this song is sandwiched between tracks with the dark/brooding atmosphere of the first album, I can see it working very well.

Tokyo Blade- Mean Streak.

I started getting into these guys after I've been hearing them persistently on google play. This is a pretty cool speed metal track, with a killer, shreddy solo to boot, but overall it didn't hit me as hard as the catchier-than-the-flu "Midnight Rendezvous" or the more epic and intricate "If Heaven is Hell".

Huge fan of that album, especially If Heaven is Hell. I think everything else by them LP-wise kinda stinks though? Midnight Rendezvous is a very rad fluke.

Martyr - En Masse (Stand or Die) [from Metal Massacre VI]

This song rules! This band fucking RULES! Can't get enough of these guys lately, and I just happened to pick up MMVI on CD locally. This song stands up to For the Universe as far as quality and it still maintains their very unique brand of complex power/speed metal with lots of melody and confidence. Huge fan of these guys, can't wait to get their second LP.

Pokolgép - Éjféli harang

I'm sure I've heard that main riff somewhere before...great song nonetheless. Dig that almost Darth Father-esque thing on the cover artwork, too.

I've been listening to Enslaved's new E album and I've been loving it so far.

It has that progressive sound they've been going for, maybe it's not their best but it's damn solid on these first couple listens. That run with the organs through "Sacred Horse" has me thinking of the run through "The Dead Stare" where you had an almost Pink Floyd sound going through it. I like that "On the Run" kind of fun that Enslaved rolls around in once in a while.

That cover of "What Else is There", even though it is a bit out of place, really works to lull you out of how much harder the rest of the album hit. Great album, those northman vocal harmonies always perk my ears up, but it's one I need a few more listens with to really feel out.
