Root - Legacy Of Ancestors

Heritage of Satan, which I haven't played in like three years since I bought it, isn't bad so far. Nice punky energy. Not the same weird darkness of their old stuff but appropriately savage and evil... pretty sweet riffs, albeit simpler than Blackie's back when he was in the band.

Naglfar- A Departure In Solitude (straight into) Diabolical: The Devil's Child.

Man, "A Departure In Solitude" may be one of my favourite interludes on any metal album ever. I don't know much about Naglfar past the first few albums, but i hope if they play live, they use this as an intro tape song.

Hypocrisy - Born Dead Buried Alive

Goddamn, I love the intro to this song. It has a very....futuristic sound to it. The cover art of the album with the aliens stepping off the ship immediately enters my head when I hear these riffs.

What in god's name is TrooperEd ever talking about? There should be some mechanism that goes "TrooperEd + 'Metallica' = one week ban"

Candlemass - Nightfall
Classic after classic after classic. Candlemass is an institution for a reason. There are days where I prefer Tales of Creation but every time I listen to Nightfall it just rockets back up to the #1 spot with ease.

Candlemass are possibly the greatest doom metal band. Epicus is great, the next three are untouchable and Chapter VI is tragically underrated.

Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley

Monstrous.

An old shitpost I decided to ignore at first, but I suddenly got so mad about during a rough day at work I had to shitpost to get it out of my system.

Status Quo- What You're Proposin

Kinda bummed this isn't on the Live At The NEC expanded tracklisting.

Nightfall > Tales > VI > Dreams > Epicus > 90% of all metal albums ever written > s/t > field

Seriously the Lowe albums are fine but overrated to shit.

Also worth noting that despite this, my favorite doom album ever from any subniche is Beyond the Crimson Horizon. The one and only time Solitude Aeturnus out-Candlemass'd Candlemass.

Ancient Dreams is my favorite Candlemass. Just has the greatest guitar playing they did back then. Tales Of Creation is a close second; love the speedier more uptempo bits.

Yeah Ancient Dreams being my least favorite of the classic run doesn't mean much since it's still a 90+% album. I think all the songs over seven minutes are ever so slightly weaker than the ones under, but it's a small difference. And any album with Darkness in Paradise is a guaranteed winner in my book.

"Incarnate of Evil" is a slightly weaker song - but otherwise I think it's all good. "Mirror Mirror," "Darkness In Paradise," the title track, "Bells of Acheron" - they all just bleed atmosphere and riff mastery.

^ That new BAN aint doing much for me.

NP: Emptiness - Not For Music
Took awhile, but this album hooked me hard. Been obsessively listening to it for a few days now. What even is this? Sounds like some cavernous death metal band got fucked by the Cure on the set of Bladerunner.....

I'd go Nightfall > Ancient Dreams > Tales of Creation > Epicus Doomicus Metallicus > Candlemass > King of the Grey Islands > VI > the rest

I think they did good with Lowe, not as epic as the early days but all still 85-90% albums to me. Also, the self-titled is very underrated. Love every song on that album.

And I also share your opinion that Beyond the Crimson Hoizon by SA is almost as good as anything Candlemass put out. Somewhere between Tales and Epicus.

Nightfall is still on lol. Samaritan :headbang:

Sabbat - The Gate (Satanasword)

This song has a really satisfying build up to the speedy section, which is something I think Sabbat really understands, how to build and release those moments. The best Sabbat songs tend to be the longer more complex works I think. This album is one of my favorites from them, although I think maybe they let Temis have control of the microphone a bit too often. On the other hand he's a guitar god and you let him do what he wants!

Venenum - S/T

Don't quite dig the new album of theirs that gets so much praise, but this EP is fucken solid.

Runemagick - "Fields of No Life"

Good band, just recently been giving them more of a chance. They have a murky, old school swedish guitar tone but vary up their tempo and pacing quite a bit, making them generally speaking interesting to listen to. Although, they do tend to be a bit long winded on their albums. Over an hour for this album, and while each song is pretty solid in its own right, they don't vary a whole hell of a lot and they get to sounding like they are repeating themselves. That's probably my only main criticism so far of the band. Otherwise, a pretty kick ass under-known band.

Marduk - Echoes from the Past

Jesus, this song is magnificent. I love every second of it. It's a shame Marduk doesn't do that stuff more often nowadays.

Serenity - Lionheart

We will stand and fight
We will celebrate tonight

This is similar to Codex Atlanticus, but it’s a bit more up-tempo and the guitars are far more prominent in the mix. This is Serenity being Serenity and it’s wonderful.

Agreed. At first I liked their full length album but eventually I came to the conclusion that it's jut not really my type of death metal.

NP: Pokolgép - A harang értem szól

Fuck, this is really good. The main verse might as well be the most bad ass chugged riff verse of all time and that chorus is memorable to the max, even if don't understand the Hungarian language.

Blut Aus Nord - Deus Salutis Meæ

Hmh. Not impressed. It's pretty much Diminishing Returns the album. It should be a good listen but then you remember that the 777 trilogy exists and you could listen to that and experience every single thing done on Deus Salutis Meæ, but better. Seems like they tried to condence the three 777 albums into 30 min.... that did not work out. The only thing that stuck with me is the guitar melody in Abisme and that lasts for approximately 60 seconds.

NP: Light This City - Facing the Thousands
First time in probably 10+ years I've listened to Light This City. I saw them on the front page under the recently updated section and was
1) shocked that the band was accepted on the archives in the first place
2) overcome with nostalgia for a forgotten gem from my metalcore days
3) excited to learn that they have gotten back together.

The only album I currently own from this band. Melodic death metal done right. I'll have to pick-up some more of their stuff when I'm in a melodeath mood.
