Vicious Rumors - Condemned (from Digital Dictator)

I don't listen to this album enough. Their debut leaves me hella bored but this one changes everything. One of the few USPM albums that tends to look forward to a future-dystopia, rather than backwards to axes cleaving through skulls. That doesn't just come through in the cover art and lyrics either. It's an omnipresent feel to the music and I really dig that. Condemned has a super anthemic chorus and an infectious riff. I'll probably be picking this up on vinyl when it's more financially feasible. And I need to hear Welcome to the Ball!

Helloween - Ride the Sky (from Walls of Jericho)

GOD FUCKING DAMN! Another album I haven't played in forever. Ride the Sky is such a sure-fire, air-tight way to open your album. Nothing but pure relentless adrenaline.

As crushing as, well, two planets colliding. A masterpiece.

^^ amazing stuff. Honestly, this whole page right now is full of good stuff!

Therion - "The Return"

I know this is apparently scene as lower tier death metal, but I love it regardless.

First Blood - Rules
My love of generic brocore strikes back. This is my first album of theirs, though they were apparently something of a big deal like ten years ago or so. Typical California hardcore full of punishing slams and breakdowns played by dudes in flat billed caps and basketball jerseys, but this stood out to me for two reasons. One is that this is a gimmick album, something not exactly common in hardcore. The album is called "Rules", the first three songs are "Fuck the Rules, "These are the Rules", and "Rules Meant to be Broken", with the rest of the tracks all being titled "Rules of [Thing]. It's corny and dumb but I sort of admire how they just went all out with such a doofy idea. Secondly, this is hard. Like god damn, it's just pure punishment from the word go, and the low end is so fucking beefy that it just feels like every riff is being played on a face instead of a guitar. It's shallow and stupid but this shit resonates with me when I'm in the right mood. I'm currently in the right mood.

blackened jazz standard album. It's silly but it also shreds pretty good. I'm surprised it's not Krallice https://melichrone.bandcamp.com/

Dimmu Borgir - Kings of the Carnival Creation

I legit at this point just have Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon on equal pedestals. They're both equally fantastic.

I think you and I might line up on quite a few things, musically. I hardly listen to death metal at all these days but Mortem is probably my favorite death metal band, no lie. It's like every single album is an attempt to out-do Altars of Madness. They never QUITE get there, of course, but man it's so fun to watch them reach for it. Really unbelievable act, ultra consistent.

Mortuary Drape - Crepuscular Whisper (from Into the Drape EP)

After the perfect creepy intro in Mother, this legendary act launches into one of their best songs ever. Mortuary Drape answers the simple question: What would happen if you paired up the evil cajoling atmosphere of Mercyful Fate with the racing savagery of Venom? The drums sound like someone slapping wet cardboard, the bass dances all over everything, and the leads are wild and gleeful. This is my black metal.

It's a very good french heavy metal/ thrash band!
For fans of old NEVERMORE/ TESTAMENT.
Saw them live yesterday, it was a powerful gig.

I think that too. I'm always suspicious when i see enormous praise for a virtually unknown band, but Mortem are one of the rare cases when i truly believe that they would be Vader-big if they were formed in the right nation

Have you ever had the luck to see Mortuary Drape live? My jaw dropped when i saw them: perfect sound, great atmosphere and they were tech-thrash level tight!

Artch - The Promised Land

Finally got the lp of this little gem: the singer is amazing and almost carries on the album alone, and i love the chunky, dark riffs (for a heavy/power album )

The Monolith Deathcult - Versus1

After 4-5 listens since getting this, definitely getting addicted. It's a twisted episode of the Twilight Zone about Nazi occultism as told by TMDC. Top 10 material.

Septic Flesh - Mystic Places of Dawn

Great discovery, this! I listened to their newer stuff before and it left me mostly uninterested. Great, melancholic goth-y stuff here. It really sounds like Nefilim, even though their goth-ness came from, you know, them being a spin-off band of Fields of the Nephilim and all.

Dragonforce - Land of Shattered Dreams

Everything on here either sounds like a bad B-side to their old albums or just a really watered down version of their old stuff.

^ Their output has been unimpressive for some time now. A shame.

Yeah but their last two still had good songs. There's barely any quality on this one.

Dragonforce - The Edge of the World

This actually sounds pretty good. Much better than the other songs.

edit: Until the weird harsh barking takes over in the second half - WTF?

Alestorm - No Grave But the Sea

Just got my copy in the mail today, and while it's nothing new, it's most definitely Alestorm! Gratuitous keyboards, catchy as fuck choruses, and songs about drinking and questing are really all that you need from an Alestorm record.

I'd probably give that one a 75% rating or so. I just prefer Human nowadays.

NP: Oppressor - Dying Inside

Pretty monolith technical death metal here. These guys can play but also know how to stay coherent as far as songwriting goes. I dig it. :)

The moment Marc Hudson joined the band. Their last ones did indeed have good songs but even so they were a step down from the ZP material. I've yet to listen to this new one but it sounds like they've jumped the shark.

Propably most of you have been fed up with Touch in the Night. I'm not, because I don't listen those rock radio stations. Jogging heavy metal at its finest.

It is too bad this album eluded me for so long because this is a ripping thrash record! Absolutely essential if you're collecting German thrash!
