Ozzy Osbourne - Mr. Crowley

I overplayed this to death in high school. Re-listening to it now, it sounds fresh again. What an intro. What a solo. What a metal song.

Lost Horizon-Kingdom of my Will
Yeah, this is a much better song than Highlander tbh.

Ahab - The Sermon (The Call of the Wretched Sea)

Fucking love AHAB. Love their old albums and, it took a while but, I love their new album as well.

btw, does not sound this song like Thergothon? I mean.. nothing sounds like AHAB, but this song really reminds me of Thergothon style.

Frowning - Extinct

Pretty, smooth funeral doom. Not winning any originality awards, but still good stuff.

Borknagar - Colossus

Mein Gott! Vortex' vocals are godly in this song, truly an angel! I still like the 'Garm albums' the best, but I have played this one probably 20 time just today.

^^
In my old band we used that song to try out new guitar players.. i almost forgot how good it was :)

Enforcer - Katana

They did it. They made a song called Katana.. and it's awesome as an actual Katana!

Accept - Rise Of Chaos

Ehhhh. For the most part, this is bland as hell.

Visigoth - Dungeon Master

God knows why it took me so long to check this out, but as expected i like it :) familiar, yet never totally predictable and very well written! I'll get the album

However i have to point out a glaring fault: the video automatically linked me to an Unleash the Archers song. I wasn't aware of their existence and now i feel pain deep inside

Accept - Blind Rage

Decent album, but I already have Blood of the Nations and Stalingrad. "Too much of the same" -thing happened with some of the newer Amorphis stuff also. Well, I check out Rise of Chaos sometime...

^^ Rise of Chaos is worse than Blind Rage IMO. I get your point completely, except the side-note that Amorphis have a slightly bigger bag of tricks in the particular style they have been going for in the last few years.

NP:
Cough - Ritual Abuse
You can hear these guys know what they're doing. Stoner doom with raspy vocals and clever songwriting.

Yeah, some of the new Amorphis is good. Silent Waters and Skyforger for example. I enjoy them alot.

I disagree. Blind Rage, while a decent album, had zero songs that I had any desire to listen to ever again. The Rise of Chaos has five, and I'd say it's only slightly underneath Stalingrad, which is my favorite modern Accept album.

Accept - Analog Man

Because now I have to. I'M AN OLD-SCHOOL SON OF A BITCH!! :np:

Blind Rage was my favorite of the new albums by a slim margin.

Deep Purple - Lick It Up

You can really hear where Edguy came from here... this is a kickass album of hard-driving, keyboard-fueled rock. Ian Gillan rules.

Scythra - Human Cesspool

Initial listen to the first album from Canadian DM band Scythra and it's solid with decent vocals and best played loud.

Seven Spires - Solveig
Ever since I discovered Light & Shade (independently yet at the exact same time as Zelky) and fell absolutely in love with Adrienne Cowan's try-hard adorableness, I've been keeping one eye on her main band, Seven Spires. Well Solveig is out now and it's... I don't even know. Y'see, the first seven tracks are just the entirety of their previous EP, and the last eight tracks are all new. I suppose it's one of those "narrative experiences" that nobody can actually follow or give a shit about and that's why they did this but it was an incredibly bad decision. As such, the first half of the album is clearly a young band that hasn't really found a sound yet and is just kind of trying everything and hoping it works while at the same time not really having too many tricks in their repertoire. The Cabaret of Dreams is a pretty neat sorta swingy track and the last ten seconds of Closure rip super fucking hard but the first half is really just droning and boring and dumb and I almost just shut the damn thing off and went back to jerking off Craven Idol before learning the weird structuring of the album. The second half, on the other hand, was very clearly written years later after the band had grown and honed their songwriting chops, because all of a sudden this shit morphs into Kamelot. It even dips into meloblack influences at times. It's surreal how jarringly sharp the uptick in songwriting is from track seven to eight.

The last eight tracks aren't mindblowing or anything but they're at least good.

Pantera-Psycho Holiday
Pretty much the only good song on CFH. Love Phils vocals and it's such a fucking groovy song. I gotta listen to the Power Metal album more.

Bethlehem - "Wintermute"

A bonus track on Dark Metal taken from an earlier EP. It sounds just as good as anything on the album. Probably one of my favorite Bethlehem tracks of all time actually.

Marduk- Baptism by Fire

They may have 886 open cases for snare drum abuse, but I'll be goddamned (literally) if it doesn't get my blood boiling in the right way.

Exoskelett - Collected Bones

Sounds a lot like a forgotten Helhammer/Celtic Frost (well-produced) demo with more punk influence and a raspy Henry Rollins on vocals. Not half bad, actually.

DAI - Prophecy of DAI

I just love stumbling upon these weird-as-hell bands. I'm getting a bit of early Rotting Christ vibe, but this also sounds doom-y....and thrash-y.

In US Power Metal mode tonight. Just finished;

Byfist - Preserving the Past (2008)

Nice compilation of their 2 EP's and single with a bonus track. Nice classic 80's style with a decent vocalist but similar to other bands.

np. Commander - The High 'n Mighty (1987)

One shot band from LA who are more trad heavy metal but still with that classic 80's style.

Both these are well worth tracking down for a listen if you like obscure 80's metal.

Overkill - Horrorscope

Wikipedia claims that as of 2012, they've sold 16 million albums worldwide. This came as a surprise to me, could someone verify this?

It's not like I hate CFH, but Psycho Holiday is basically the only one that doesn't make me groan. Cemetery Gates is meh, the self titled song is overplayed and I cringe when I hear it. Medicine Man is complete garbage. Shattered is great though, but none of them stand up to Psycho Holiday.

Septic Flesh-Rising
Never was a fan of SF's clean vocals, but this song is great. The melodies are infectious.

The Crown - 1999-Revolution 666

I first heard this song in 1999 which was very appropriate for its title and theme. With the new millennium approaching and fears for the 'end times', this seemed like an apt battle cry. We all know the 'end times' didn't arrive as we are all still hear, but this song still is a total ripper after all these years.

It's a quite cheesy album but REALLY fun.
