It's easy to forget how dark and unrelenting this all is...such a great album.

It's a Darkthrone party in here! :hyper:

Darkthrone - En Vind av Sorg

I think it's the fervor over the upcoming album...I'm sure visiting and revisiting a lot of their stuff lately. Gonna check out A Blaze... sometime soon I hope.

I was getting into a Darkthrone mood even before I heard about the new album, but knowing about it it definitely helps. Which is weird, because I actually... haven't heard their last few albums. :oh shit:

Death Toll 80k - Harsh Realities

Well, I'm listening to grindcore at 4AM so that says a lot about my current state of mind... At least this is pretty good stuff, reminds me a lot of Insect Warfare's only album but with slightly more emphasis on groovy hooks. Hard to fathom that two of the band members were in Hooded Menace. o_O

The Devil Wears Prada - Escape

Sue me. The Zombie EP is genuinely pretty good and easily their most metal based release yet.

Good album. Very reminiscent of Insect Warfare, but I do agree that Death Toll 80K has a few more hooks in their album, which probably makes it the more interesting of the two, personally. How did your brain cope with intense grind at 4am? :)

Defeated Sanity - Chapters of Repugnance

The only Defeated Sanity album I can listen to, and it's an absolute doozy. I actually don't even think their upcoming one can even top this, but if they can come close, then that's good enough for me. This one is heavy and crushing like a steamroller. Love the small jazz-esque break in "Consumed by Repugnance", too. I would like to hear more of that in their new one, but I have a feeling I won't. Anyway, this album is fantastic. :metal:

India is filled with metalcore/mallcore bands you know. Still there are a handful of decent bands for my taste. Bevar Sea is one of them. Their debut album is quite brilliant. Check them out.

Ironically better and more passionate than anything Tim Owens would ever do again

Ha, it does so in such a natural way that it sometimes scares me. I suffer from insomnia and I just got out of some heavy pain meds I was taking so I've been feeling a bit anxious and edgy. I needed to vent out some rage before going to bed. Incidentally I ended up also hearing World Extermination. :D

Eternal Dirge - Morbus Ascendit

Germany, 1992. Think Hellwitch with a splash of Nocturnus, hefty technical death/thrash with some prog influences and a slight use of keyboards. Creepy tone, tempo changes abound and a vocalist that borders on the best Mike Browning. Oh well, another impossible to find CD for me to spend some years looking for...

I am thinking the same thing. Those jazzy interludes were a pivotal contribution to what made Chapters of Repugnance such a great album. Normally when you hear jazz being blended into Death metal it is done in a more bright, melodic, or groovy way. Defeated Sanity did it in a very subtle and bleak way that really added to the darkness that just engulfs that album. Its just my opinion but I feel like Chapters Of Repugnance has such a dark and evil atmosphere that is rarely captured successfully in modern Technical/Brutal/Slam death metal. Or even in Death metal in general, if you will. Even if the jazz breaks are being left out, I hope they can still capture that kind of magic on this new release.

There is none more weird. Somehow all of the nun-euclidean elements manage to crunch together in just the right way, however. Sort of as if someone threw up a musical kaleidoscope and it somehow landed in a really enjoyable pattern.

NP: Sargeist - Black Fucking Murder.

One of my favourite black-metal albums in general, and strangely working quite well as study-music. Thinking of putting on Horrendous afterwards, which may not be.
