Released Anger - Revenge

Ridiculously tight high-speed thrash. Rhythm guitarist is one of the best. Production could be better.

Love the riffs and harmonies in this one. I prefer the CG era but the Barnes era ended on a high note.

I think this may be my favorite CC tune. I cannot stop listening to it. Catchy as fuck, fast, powerful. :headbang:

Bloodbath - Drink From the Cup of Heresy

I wonder if this band can ever make another album as good as Nightmares Made Flesh. They've just not been as interesting since that one album. I mean, this is still ok, but not on the same level.

Another contender for favorite artist. Impossible decision.

The whole of Ocean Machine: Biomech is simply wonderful and I refuse to believe otherwise.

Greta Van Fleet - Safari Song

These guys are doing old school rock better than anybody I know. They have serious chops and the right kind of ballsy, authority-commanding attitude - great riffs, too. The feel is very genuine and authentic.

Zemial - Ancient Arcane Scrolls (opening track from Nykta)

Settling into a stretch of tedious work, figured a longer album was in order. This song is a great opener for a special album. Highly recommend for anyone who likes the idea of a melting ground where early Bathory, traditional heavy metal, and progressive rock meet. It's a journey.

Hypocrisy - Weed Out The Weak

Hypocrisy - Adjusting The Sun

What took me so long to get into Hypocrisy?! I know the answer actually and it was because their first two albums didn't hook way back in '92/'93 and so I never gave them another chance. Huge mistake, obviously.

Infinite Death - "Desecrating the Dead" from Beyond the Gates

This EP is a pretty decent little slab of melo-death.

Overkill- Elimination

So here’s my defense of this song: First of all, yes it is a Master of Puppets riff, but it is not necessarily THE Master of Puppets riff. It’s actually the riff that sounds a lot like Over My Dead Body by Metal Church. Did we ever do a metalsnopes check on Boris’s claim that Metallica stole from Metal Church first? If so then the “copy Metallica” narrative doesn’t work.

Even so, this is actually an example of a thrash song where everything else works AHEAD of the riff. When people think of this song, they don’t think of the riff, they think of that catchy ass chorus and the lightning fast tempo. It’s probably one of the few metal songs people can identify by the chorus instead of the riff like Breaking The Law or Run To The Hills.

I dug that album quite a bit in 2016 but haven't come back to it in awhile. Solid band. Also features what might be my favorite Girardi album cover.

NP: Tool - Euology
Been listening to a fucking TON of Tool lately, getting myself amped for the new album. I've only been waiting through my late adolescence/teenage years/entirety of my adulthood for it.

People who try to say that the Elimination riff isn't an obvious lift of the Master of Puppets riff because like two notes are different sound like Vanilla Ice saying he didn't rip off Under Pressure for Ice Ice Baby because there's like one extra hi hat. That's not to say Elimination doesn't rule and it's very clearly a highlight of TYoD but let's be real, we all know that riff.

Hooded Menace - Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed
I loved the shit out of their first two albums and then for whatever reason just completely stopped paying attention. So I missed the 2015 album but this new one is excellent. I've never really been all that high on doom and its various spokes branching out from it (gotta go fast) but this riff heavy style hits crazy hard. Excellent album.

Trivium - The Crusade

Some memories with this one... opens up strong as hell and then just totally falls apart after the fourth track. Damn, kinda wish they stuck with this riffing style though.

Destroyer - Tinseltown Swimming In Blood

This is pretty out there - it's simple stuff but hard to really peg down in a way, and every song is different. Individual, oddball music.
