Wintersun - Time I

Hey, this is actually good. A good album sandwitched between a symphonic Children of Bodom wannabe and a shallow, supposedly blacker sonic embodiment of the seasons...

Jari's music is extremely hit or miss, it seems.

Wasp - Inside the Electric Circus

This might actually the worst of the first 5. At least it doesn't strike me as anything really special. Yet.

Judas Priest - 'Turbo Lover'

People can debate on the rest of the album until they're blue in the face but this is certified classic Judas Priest. It just rules, so fucking hard.

Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake

I'm not really all that much of an LoG fan, but I have to admit, this is one of the greatest metal albums of all time with some of the most memorable riffs. And regardless of what you think of their music these guys are really tight. If only it had a meatier guitar sound.

 Damn straight.

Brainstorm- Firesoul.

I was thinking of giving this album another go. I dig the hell out of the title track, so I'm gonna try the rest of the album.

Sarah Shook and the Disarmers - Misery Without Company

Addictively brash, bluesy country rock... love her down to Earth vocals, and I love the headstrong, direct attitude. Just no bullshit at all. Super honest.

Wintersun - Awaken From The Dark Slumber (a mandatory semi-listen)

So I haven't listened to the whole thing - just skimmed around a bit listening to 30 seconds here and there, but damn. Every single aspect of this is grating to the ears. It's the Trump Tower of music. Expensive as fuck but filled with fake grandiosity and tackiness.

Isis - Panopticon

Actually does a better job of evoking summer than the summer section of that Wintersun.

Personally, it's one of my favorite JP album. It's so 80's and cheesy as hell, but that's what makes it such a fun record. Perfect driving music too.

NP : Ulver - The Assassination of Julies Ceasar.

Still in my top 3 of 2017.

Tsatthoggua - Credo of inversion

Found randomly this band, and i'm blown away!

They channel perfectly the adrenalinic feel of the old lovely Imp Naz records, sometimes with even better riffs... I'm really impressed!

I agree with your sentiments. It's definitely a good one for road trips along the grand ol' highway.

Dismember - Collection by Blood

Massive Killing Capacity is kind of a meh album overall, but there are a few gems on it, like this one.

Galderia - Return of the Cosmic Men

They return after 5 years and deliver THIS album? Wow. If you're into power metal, give this one a listen. It's a contender for AOTY.

Rainbow- "Lady of the Lake".

Obviously not the best song on Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, but a pretty catchy and fun uptempo rocker all the same.

Horna - Sanojesi Äärelle

I've listened to this album like three times today (actually the first time may have been last night, I don't remember exactly), and it's grown on me quite a lot in that time. It's hard to think of a time when an album has grown on me this suddenly.

The Gathering - Mandylion

I could listen to Anneke all day everyday. It also helps that the music has so many hooks.

I've been saying it here for a few years now: Turbo, almost the whole record, rules.

Battle Beast - Black Ninja

The chorus always scares me. Bad lyrics delivered straight to your face.

Panopticon is just solid all the way through. Their best album.

Jute Gyte - Ressentiment

I ended up purchasing Oviri, so I'm waiting for the physical copy to arrive. I figured I'd go back to one of his earlier releases. Ressentiment is a cacophonous, difficult listen. It's not all bad, though. Better when it's slower.

Terrifier - Nuclear Demolisher

It's my first time checking this band out. Three songs in, it's pretty decent, even if it's completely familiar.

Death - 1,000 Eyes

Symbolic stands as one of my favorite Death albums. Probably in the top 3. It's filled with great songs and "1,000 Eyes" is one of those great songs.

Katatonia - "Leaders"

When Katatonia released The Great Cold Distance in March of 2006, I reviewed it for a site that probably disappeared quite a few years ago. As I listened to Distance at the time and wrote the review, I know I didn't hate the album, but I sure didn't enjoy it either. More than that, I could not wait to get the review over with and move on to whatever "the next thing" was.

Then, about a year ago, I randomly listened to "Leaders" and it suddenly clicked with me. In the next few days, the same thing happened with "Deliberation," "Rusted," "Follower" and so forth... For some odd reason I have never quite gotten into "Journey through Pressure," but that's hardly an issue since Distance is easily one of my favorite albums in all of metal now, and I don't think anything remotely close to what has happened to me with that album in the past decade has happened with any other.

Striborg - A Procession of Lost Souls

My first foray into this man's discography. It's like Forbidden Citadel of Spirits with better songwriting and worse ("better") production. Enjoying quite a lot!

Definitely not my favorite Katatonia album, and it took quite a while for it to click with me, too. "Leaders", though, is a near-perfect song.

NP:
Decrepit Birth - Axis Mundi
Well, fuck me running, this is much better than I anticipated. A tad overlong, but very well thought-out, it never turns into a confusing mess, which is something that tech-death albums are sometimes akin to do.

One of my fave tracks off 'Heaven and Hell'. I think this track should be more popular than it is. What's everybody's opinion of this track?

That's a good one. It gets lost in the big ones (Neon Knights, H&H, Die Young, Children Of The Sea) but it's great. (so is the closer)

Angel Witch - Angel Witch

So glad they re-issued this on LP.

It's listenable, but just like some other tracks on Heaven and Hell it's just a bit too rock-y.

NP: Overkill - Time to Kill

A bit of an overlong album but at the same time the highlights are absolutely incredible.
