Dream Theater - The Root of All Evil

Starting to concretely dig into prog metal... my knowledge about it is quite limited, especially concerning this band.

You might want to check Conception, Othyrworld, Fates Warning, Psychotic Waltz, Adramelch and Arch/Matheos if you're new to prog metal.

NP: Moenen of Xezbeth - Pandemonial Curse

Sounds like a 90's midpaced black metal album. I suppose it's got a bit of a Hellenic vibe, too.

Crimson Glory - Masque of the Red Death

I've barely been playing anything else the last few days. This is an unparalleled work. The polish and power are out of this world and Midnight's voice is singular and impeccable.

Armory - The Search

I had no idea Armory had new music coming out. I really love "World Peace... Cosmic War". This is my first spin of the new one.

Vahrzaw - Twin Suns & Wolves Tongues

Killer Aussie black death metal in the vein of Angelcorpse. They have released a new album this year to, I need to pick that up.

Valgrind - Codex Armageddon

Wow, where has this band been all my life? Killer old-school DM in the vein of Disincarnate and (early) Immolation. Can't believe how hard I slept on this band, everything I've heard from them so far has been incredible.

I really need to give post-HotMK Savatage more listens. I can't decide how to feel about most of it yet.

NP: Twisted Tower Dire "Direwolf" (from "Netherworlds")

I always loved "Crest of the Martyrs" since high school, finally checked out "Netherworlds" and it rocks. Love Tony Taylor (RIP)! This song has such a feel-good vibe. The whole album blends darker vibes with ridiculously upbeat ones. Somehow it works.

Some really great tracks on that one. Should really check out their other later albums too.

Sabbat- Dreamweaver.

Really stellar, inventive thrash; one part unquenchable aggression, one part mysterious and technical without being overtly so.

Judas Priest - British Steel

One of my all time favorites. Sometimes you have to break out a classic.

For me its a shame, because I have worn the album out so bad over the years that now I can play it maybe once or twice and it gets put back away for another year or so. Just played it to death over the years.

For me it's the complete opposite. I listened their other 80's albums more, and kind of ignored it for a long time. Well, not totally, but when I put it in the stereos again after some time of not playing it at all, I finally understood its greatness.

Marilyn Manson - The Reflecting God

A comment in the ANUS thread got me wanting to spin a few tracks. Not a favorite around here but a fine album.

Sonata Arctica - Sing In Silence

This album has quite a few ballads and I love all of them. Sing In Silence is particularly great.

Rainbow - A Light in the Black

Could never decide if I like this one or stargazer more, what I do now is that both kick major ass.

Dio - All the Fools Sailed Away

Went on a Dio nostalgia kick today, Dream Evil may not be his best album, but this song is right up there with his best work.

Black Sabbath- Air Dance

I think this might be that wacky section of Fear Is The Key 14 years early.

Battle Beast - Resurrection By Erection (Powerwolf cover)

I never knew I needed this in my life until it appeared. This is the most glorious piece of music ever heard.

Black Kirin - Wangchung River

I know 'Whispers' is kind of the benchmark currently in oriental-themed metal, but this is way better and not steeped in cheesy melodeth. Love the Chinese folk elements building into black metal frenzy.

I like this! I can see how some people may see it as "unfocused", but I think it's wonderfully dynamic.

Akasha - "Traversing The Veils Of Death" from Taran

Making my way through a Red Stream CD grab bag I purchased. This is a bit better than I had expected judging from the album cover.

Edge of Thorns is a goddamn classic. And I used to play TTD all the time in high school. Should give em a spin for old time's sake. Crest and Netherworlds fucking smoked.

Jack White - Respect Commander

So fucking good. A badass, screaming guitar manifesto.
