Sabbat -- Immortality of the Soul (The Devil's Sperm is Cold 7")

Decided to go from their most recent LP to some very old EPs. It's kinda funny to me how their 80s EPs were actually pretty complex and demanding compared to Envenom. I think they dumbed down a little in an attempt to get a more evil sound on the debut. I'm not saying it didn't work, just a thing I've noticed. This song though? It's a long, winding, complex tour de riff with one incredible moment following just on the heels of the last. A rip-ride through a brackish mind. Killer shit.

So, yeah, I don't like this song.

Soundgarden - Superunknown

A fantastic listen. Sludgy, groovy, rocking metal loaded with attitude, great songwriting and excellent performances.

Thank you, Chris.

EbonyLake plays extreme progressive avant-garde metal with a lot of twists and turns going on. Ranging from fast black metal-parts, through doom-parts, to disharmonic classical music and even jazz music, the album is a heck of a listen.

that's a good description I just plagiarized

Vektor - LCD (Liquid Crystal Disease)

Terminal Redux is such a great album. I really hope this band recovers from 3 of the 4 members quitting, finds a stable new lineup, and puts out more albums like this.

A few things today:

Cancer - Death Shall Rise

This is AWESOME. Oh man, I love this. One of my new instant favs. The way they milk the riff cow on all these songs is just so my thing.

Therion - Of Darkness

This is not nearly as awesome, but I enjoy it tremendously. I must have MOAR THRASHY DEATH METAL

When i see Death/thrash i always feel the need to preach about the peruvian band Mortem, wich are one of the best, most consistent and most unfairly forgotten bands of the genre: check out their second and third album, i'm not lying! :)

Septic Flesh - Narcissus

..hey, they are recycling the Suspiria theme!
great album by the way, more riffy than its own successors

NP: Massacra - Apocalyptic Warriors

One of those bands I was planning on checking out for a long time. These riffs sound surprisingly catchy.

Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick

A classic to start my day. Here's hoping the new album is half as good and that it's nothing like 'Illud Divinum Insanus' that I foolishly pre-ordered on vinyl and have played only once.

Mastodon - Emperor Of Sand

Yeah, after 4 or 5 listens, I can safely say that Mastodon recovered nicely after their previous album. Some good moments here and the poppish elements are much better utilized. Although "Show Yourself" is still aural feces.

Entrenched - Bred To Kill

Hope these guys get it together to make a new record. With Bolt Thrower & Hail Of Bullets down, someone needs to keep up the suppressive fire. This record is mega-underrated.

Morbid Angel - Suffocation

So the recent MA thread inspired me to re-listen to this classic album (Altars of Madness). Death metal is not my main genre by a long shot, but these riffs... quality songwriting!

Wildfire is amazing, it really surpassed all my expectations.. it has the attitude, the energy and not a single second of boredom while remaining completely old school :)

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with Wildfire. Most of D666's stuff is pretty strong, and I think this has a solid mix of their abilities and style. From intense, faster songs like Hounds at Ya Back (my favorite, styled like Cold Steel...) to the slower, atmospheric Taman Shud (which reminds me of Human, All to Human and Sermon to the Dead from Defiance).

Right now:
Enormity
By: Oak Pantheon
From: In Pieces

I personally know Sami from this band, as we both worked at GameStop. He was kind enough to download the game I made on his phone, so in return, I bought some of his band's music. It floored me. This is probably the most polished metal band I have ever heard come out of Minnesota, and they have such a microscopic following. I will continue to plug them until everyone is aware. I have rarely been so impressed with something like this, but they do phenomenal work. All three of their full-length albums are amazing.

Disbelief - The Symbol of Death

Ehhhhhh... some good songs, a bunch of good riffage, but it's overlong and a bit monotonous as a record.

In a thrash mood again.

Razor - Evil Invadors

followed by a first play for

Tasteful Turmoil - Protect the Waysted

Old school speed versus new thrash. Razor oozes class but is let down a bit by the drums & production.
Tasteful Turmoil sound pretty decent on first listen with excellent sound / production, nice guitars and decent vocals - will be playing this one again.

Dexter Ward - Metal Rites (from the album Neon Lights)

I just randomly clicked on this after Black Viper ended. I honestly cannot tell if this is good or if the chorus is just a complete earwig.

Killing in the night for the Metal Rites!
Metal Rites! Metal Rites!
Killing in the night for the Metal Rites!

Yeah I don't know. This might be total dogshit. I'm gonna let it play for a few songs.

Dexter Ward - Ghost Rider

No this actually kinds rules. Or maybe they're just incredible at writing hooks? The production is a lot more "brutal" than I expected this band to be. Really aggressive guitar tone. The vocalist is a gem. Rolling those r's and doing all kinds of dramatic shit.
