By pure chance, this was the last album I played before I left Florida. So now it's got sort of an odd value to it that it didn't have before, for me.

Samael - Virtual War (from Above)

I don't think any album has ever caused so many mixed feelings for me as Above.

More King Crimson - Discipline

Fuck, this album is addicting. I keep hearing it in my head late at night, before I go to sleep.

The Slaves - Ocean on Ocean

Ethereal yet heavy synth drone, this album is excellent.

Testament - For the Glory Of...
One of the cooler intros I've heard. Wicked heavy and cool riffs. This is the one song from The Formation of Damnation that I always come back to.

Odz Manouk - s/t

A really nice underground find associated with the oft-not-as-good-as-this Black Twilight Circle of California. Brooding, violent black metal that reminds me in certain ways of Leviathan, though with a more massive and somewhat less "self-conscious" sound. Very well developed for a first demo. Some passages in this verge close to pure chaos due to the reverb-drenched production, though the sharp riffs and strong, chopping drumwork are often given enough focus to keep the music coherent. Slightly experimental, fairly unique stuff, definitely worth checking out. USBM that doesn't suck!

Revenance - Five Shots, from Omen Of Tragedy

Pulled this one off the shelf not too long ago for the first time in years... Wonder what ever happened to these guys?

Varathron - Cassiopeia's Ode

Of the classic greek bm bands this is certainly one of the more brilliant ones. Their sound is much like early Rotting Christ but their appeal is a more subtle, complex one. I like that.

Wizard's Beard - Paint The Skies, from Pure Filth

As the lone review for this album on Metal Archives states, Pure Filth is the perfect album title for this one. "Heavy, hateful, and sludgy" sums it all up. Fantastic release despite being so short (5 tracks, 31 mins.)

Sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Prosanctus Inferi - Noctambulous Jaws Within Sempiternal Night (2013)

Really disappointing one. Their 2007 demo is stellar but all that follows is quite not up to it...

The Ruins of Beverast - A Failed Exorcism

So far I think Blood Vaults is better than Foulest Semen, but not as good as Rain Upon the Impure. All of his records are different though, so it's not really fair to compare them. Really love how this is a concept record; super chilling material.

I've only heard this album once so far but to me it doesn't seem to sound that different compared to its precessor. I'd love The Ruins of Beverast to eventually go into a rawer territory again though. There's just something absolutely devastating about that Rain upon the Impure It's uglier and more mysterious than the other TRoB albums I think.

NP: Delirium - Menance Unseen

The more I listen to bands like these, the more obvious it becomes to me that Celtic Frost had a very, very important influence on extreme metal scene.

Nekrogoblikon - Bells and Whistles

What in the world happened on this EP? It's like the band just decided to stop writing good songs.

Bloodbath-Weak Aside

My lady left for the evening with our son so I am enjoying an uninterrupted evening of beer and metal. After this, some Exhumed, followed by Death.

Primordial - Death Of The Gods

Not my favourite Primordial album, compared to The Gathering Wilderness, or Spirit The Earth Aflame, but it still has it's shining moments of brilliance. The closing section of this track being one of them.

Nothing wrong with liking all the ROB albums equally, I do anyway. They all have good traits. Foulest Semen is the best though, but not by a large margin I don't think.

Beyond Twilight - Hellfire

An odd mournful dirge.

Behexen - Mouth Of Leviathan

Quality Finnish black metal with a mournful, melodic edge, thick meaty production while still being raw. Great stuff, and it reminds me that I need to buy the latest album.

Some death/doom done absolutely right. I rank this band right up there with Dusk.
