Deftones - Around the Fur

Easily my favourite nu metal album.

Opeth - Heir Apparent

Why do people not like Watershed, again? They clearly must be listening to a totally different album than me.

It starts to sink towards the back end, IMO. "Hessian Peel" and "Hex Omega" just aren't up to snuff compared to the first half - "Heir Apparent", which kicks ass, in particular. I wouldn't say I don't like Watershed as a whole, but I don't play it nearly as often as the stuff that came before it.

Iced Earth - Clear the Way (December 13th, 1862)

Hell yeah, more Civil War homage. Love the bagpipe bits at different points in the song.

Theatre of Tragedy - A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal

90s ToT and Tristania are just about exactly what gothic metal is at its best. The modern day successor to these two bands is Draconian.

Entombed - "Fractures"

This band's discography is rife with hidden gems. That riff about 20 seconds in is guaranteed to make ya' want to punch holes in walls, not mention that simple yet brutal riff at 2:10.

Corpsia - Execution

Halfway through this album and this is some solid Brazilian thrash. Surprised I haven't heard anyone talk about these guys before.

Accept - Blind Rage

This hasn't grabbed me just yet. Love Blood of the Nations and Stalingrad, but this seems like more of the same, in a negative way.

Dark Angel - A Subtle Induction

Been on an American thrash binge lately. Today's edition is a spin of Dark Angel's eventual last album. The album sticker boasts of 261 riffs contained within the 9 tracks and after hearing it, I would say the statement is accurate. That however, is not an entirely good thing. Utilizing that many riffs actually extends the song length and affects the potency of the tracks. What could've been easily been four-minute songs are extended to 6-8 minute faux opuses. The overextended song lengths take the fun away from the technical thrash displayed on this album.

Selwyn Birchwood - Even the Saved Need Saving

Swinging, groovy blues rock - whiskey soaked vocals, acrobatic, screaming guitars. I am digging it. This guy is from my hometown.

The Ruins Of Beverast - The Pythia's Pale Wolves

This is all about the slow build. These songs are masterfully written and you really have to take them as whole compositions to get the effect intended.

You are in for a treat! They are a great live band and Pale Rider was the highlight of the set! :)

Immortal - Nebular Ravens Winter

Great riffs, abysmal production.. it's a pity :(

Yeah that album is great!

Profanity - Slaughtering Thoughts

Managed to pick this one up relatively cheap. It's definitely a much more old-school beast than what they bought out this year, but I like it! Very intense death metal.

Iron Fire - Blade of Triumph

I don't like this as much as Revenge, but I think it will grow on me. Martin Steene can write a song.

Eric B. & Rakim- Kick Along

He goes so fucking fast on this song. It's essentially his equivalent to a Dark Angel song.

I just finished my first spin. It's a howitzer for sure. Overlong (I just can't be excited for brutal death for 50+ minutes nonstop), but definitely a good listen.

NP:
Beastmilk - Climax
... to calm down. A nice, gloomy, post-punk/deathrock album. "Genocidal Crush" is a brilliant rock song.

FIGHT THE FIGHT! WRONG OR RIGHT! Something something....something else!!! This song fucking rules so hard. Perfect album for sword swinging antics.
