Cobalt - Arsonry

First day back at Uni. There's little doubt in my mind that Meta-ethics with delightfully fucked-up black metal is vastly better than Meta-ethics without it.

The very idea that someone owning a time machine would use it only to write epic 80's metal songs is fucking awesome

I was just saying that because Enforcer sound remarkably old school. I hadn't listened to them until now, and I'm not completely sold on them, but damn if they don't get the style down to a T.

Brilliant song by a brilliant band.

Np: Lantern - Subterranean Effulgence

I love the full length but this is on a whole other level

Fates Warning - The Road Goes on Forever

I can't think of anything else but tranquility while listening to this. Excellent stuff, not to mention it's also fitting for the upcoming cooler days due to autumn coming up.

Triosphere "The Road Less Travelled"

I've barely played this one for some reason, time to fix that. I sure played "Onwards" a lot several years ago.

Seasons of the Wolf - Misty Shades of Green

Good, keyboard-heavy metal. I'd guess their rather black-metal-ish logo and name are what's keeping people from checking them out. It's very misleading.

Demilich - When the Sun Drank the Weight of Water, off Nespithe

I've never been a guy who pays a lot of attention to drumming, but I've always dug the percussion in Nespithe. Easily some of the most fascinating drumming in all of death metal.

Esoteric - Passing Through Matter

Absolutely amazing record. It's crushing, suffocating, and engulfing all in the best possible way!

Týr - Ólavur Riddarós

Their new album turned me into a believer. Now I'm going back and checking out the earlier stuff. Quite good, although they occasionally meander a bit.

Mercyful Fate - The Oath

Fuck. This has turned out to be an obscenely good album; It's taken me three or four years of dabbling, but I can safely say I'm a fully-fledged Mercyful Fate fan now.

Forestfather - The Emerald Key. I've been listening to these guys quite frequently lately they're really fitting into my whole atmospheric black/post black/whatever you want to call it kick that I've been on for a while now. If you're into that stuff definitely give these guys a listen.

In his top five best performances ever, I think.

Seidr - Ginnungagap

I was really excited when I saw that the new album was able to be streamed in full, not sure about my thoughts on the album though. It is very good. But I'm not sure yet if I like it more than their previous work.

Here's the stream for those interested: http://www.thegauntlet.com/music/259/Se ... full-album

Motorhead - 1916

Completely unlike anything else Lemmy has done to my knowledge. Motorhead are leagues out of their comfort zone, and the result is absolutely heartwrenching.

A rather ugly and unsettling album. Pity they never did a follow-up, this is pretty good stuff.

I just can't get enough of The Pernicious Enigma. It's the only thing that my ears will agree with for days now. Help me...

Satyricon - Phoenix

The problem I have with the couple of Satyricon albums before this one is that they sound so unbelievably soulles. However the new album sounds warm, natural, and is filled with musical integrity, and I love the spacious guitars and the laidback drumming style.

The Chasm - Lost Yesterdays, Impossible Tomorrows

Not sure why 'From the Lost Years' is rated so lowly on this site compared to most of The Chasm's other albums. Sure, the production is rather quiet and rough, but the music definitely shines through regardless.

Alcest - Écailles de lune Pt. 2

The first 3 minutes or so of this song is honestly some of the most incredible music I've ever heard.

The bit after with the titanic harmonic lead is the peak of Alcest to me.

Solitude Aeturnus - Waiting for the Light

I'm glad Lowe left Candlemass, because it was just not good and the live performances with him were a complete joke. However, his work with Solitude Aeturnus is among the best doom metal out there and this album (Alone) is probably top 5 epic doom albums released. Great band.
