NP: Alchemist - Wrapped in Guilt
I know that the tag "psychedelic" can refer to a genre, but I think if you're going to really earn that label you have to write music influenced by (or under the influence of) the psychedelic experience. I don't hear it in 90% of "psychedelic" bands (not just in metal, but in rock and electronic etc). Alchemist however, seem to genuinely earn their "psychedelic" tag at times. I can't confirm that drugs are an explicit influence on this band but it feels genuine.

Witchery - I Am Legion

... meh. Some okay riffs, some good solos... just overall, this has a new Satyricon "occasionally pleasant, but completely inconsequential" vibe.

EDIT: And then the last track, "The Alchemist" came on. They throw in some speed metal and some proper shredding and the whole thing is suddenly 100x better.

That's the reason why i think their debut is still the best thing they ever did, some melodies could be on Abigal! :)

And yeah, i've never, ever heard a guitarist playing the Crazy Train riff correctly live  same for the verse riffs of Wasted Years and Holy Wars

Leviathan - The Tenth..(full)

I remember the incredible amount of hype that this had back in the day and i'm curious if still holds up

^ Crest is great, Budapest and Farm on the Freeway are both choice cuts.

:np: Now playing: Kult of Taurus - Adversarial Paths: The Sinister Essence

Spoiler: show

O yaa maybe better than their debut I dunno. Weirdo bm over subtle cosmic electronics. Here be some of da best bm I've heard anywhere in a while just because it's got a different vibe.

Enslaved - E

They have had progressive rock/metal elements in the sound for many many years but each new release increases these and of course the clean vocals change the overall style. Maybe they should just do an Opeth and loose some fans and probably gain some new ones.

Varathron- Lustful Father

I mean I know "Greek black metal" is a sound but these guys sound identical to Rotting Christ!

Bad Religion - Los Angels is Burning

It's always interesting to listen to the category of a band, especially a political oriented one, compared to before and after 9/11.

I like ALL their albums but this one is been quite difficult for me.

(2006) Ministry - Rio Grande Blood on my way to work.
Less aggressive than I could remember.

That album rips. I can't actually recall an angrier Ministry album off the top of my head.

NP: Satyrasis - ...of the Dead
This is quite a discovery. Super ambitious tech thrash/death. Less technical than something like Revocation, more songwriting focused. Daunting, but there are so many moments that were awesome. Also, how often do you hear a blastbeat in a Rush cover?

Steve Vai - Still My Bleeding Heart

I'm not really familiar with Vai's work, but Devin makes this song awesome. Jesus, those screams near the end, holy shit!

Pentagram (Turkey) - 1000 in the Eastland

Amazing folk/melodic metal from Turkey, Anatolia is a surprisingly near-flawless album.

Scanner - Grapes of Fear (from Hypertrace)

This album goes so hard. It's like a foretelling of what Blind Guardian would start doing in the 90s. But it doesn't have any thrash in sight. Just pure ripping power/speed metal with some VERY epic flourishes here and there. This song in particular is a head-down charger with a particularly odd tube-screamer guitar sound that I didn't notice on the rest of the album.

This thing jams, plain and fuggin' simple.

Manilla Road - To Kill A King

Didn't like this album which I bought on pre-order but it has grown on me. Not their best but listenable.

Arrayan Path - Dawn of Aquarius

It's available for streaming. After warming up to Chronicles of Light a few days ago, I decided to take a shot at this one. So far, I'm really enjoying it - a great mix of power metal and Eastern atmosphere.

Ljå - Til avsky for livet (2006)

Quite a vicious and misanthropic serving of BM. Sounds like a sped-up version of Gorgoroth in parts but with less memorable riffs.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds- There Is A Town

The Nocturama album is underrated. And the intro of this song sounds like it could be from a metal song. Nick is the best.

Machine Head - Day Turn Blue To Gray

Honestly Through The Ashes Of The Empires is a very underrated album. It was a nice combination of their musical style up to that point and it showed them growing more as musicians. The album has some great tracks as well... my favorite is In The Presence Of My Enemies.

Damad- Burning Cold
Just learned that the vocalist Victoria passed away earlier this year. What a fucking shame, absolutely love this album...

Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle

I'm not usually in the mood for black metal, but it's really fucking cold here today, so I'm playing one of my favourites.

Stalker - Shadow Of The Sword

Early 80's worship at its best, just a raw slice of speed metal done right.

It's, sometimes, the opposite for me and listen to BM on summer.

I had a quite cool evening: zero stress and lots of random listens that re-ignited my passion for music, highlights being:

The Stooges - Dirt (i didn't really expect a psyched out blues jam from them)

Siouxie and the Banshees - Rhapsody (damn, she can sing!)

DSO- Chaining The Kathecon (twang, blang, twang)

..and the new Arkhon Infaustus ep, wich slays! :)

That Siouxsie album is still a favorite for me. Need to check out the other Stooges albums. I just have Raw Power.

The White Stripes - Catch Hell Blues

Screaming, groovy guitar madness.

No wonder! :) It's so different and ambitious, they really outdid themselves

I was really surprised by The Stooges's Fun House, more varied and experimental than i expected.. i would suggest that

The Ruins of Beverast - "Maere (On a Stillbirth's Tomb)"

The biggest problem with this album is that the first three songs are much better than the latter three, but this song is the peak of the album, especially with that awesome post-chorus riff (https://youtu.be/EPi_2jxZERA?t=4m10s) and the super trancy outro.

Pest - Black Thorns demo. They used to give very solid material and even on this demo Pest sounds very atmospheric and complex.

Silent Scream - The Last Rites Demo 1989

I'm just chilling listening to a bunch of demo cd-r's i made years ago. So much good shit from the 80's to early 90's. My ears are currently being assaulted by this raging thrashing beast!

White Zombie - Tales from the Scarecrow Man

Avant surf-metal? Pre-Sexorcisto Zombie deserve more respect than they get. I love the weird riffs and noisy soloing from those days so much, they just did not give a fuck - lots more exciting than perfectly crafted pop ditties or whatever they were doing by the time of Astro-Creep.
