Amorphis - Amongst Stars

Oh my fucking god. Talk about possibly the most perfect guest singer choice ever (aside from Dan Swano on Ordered Eastward by Hail of Bullets). This fucking band is incapable of making anything that isn't at least a 9 out of 10.

It was, more clearly put, a system of wholes operating under a very intricately built climate of elements. In times was a noticeably more wholistic orchestrated vision of riff-maneuvering (advantageously arranged in comparison to "E") swimming swellingly with symphonic elements that were much more dedicated (and succeeding) to a much more coherent system.

Aggravator - Populace Destructor

Competent '80s German thrash worship. Even the name reminds me of when the Germans would take stage names with the formula (something suitably violent)+"-or", like Aggressor, Grave Violator, Destructor et al.

Byzantine - Redneck War

Many a man bear the scars of laboring to pay a toll
They lie just to exploit our miners and hell bent to export our coal
Come step into our territory and our laws you shall not adhere
They're gaining control through the voting and bribery built on your fear

Lay down the bible and take up the rifle
Our blood runs thick down the banks of the crooked creek

I never took this band seriously but good god damn, this is a great song. A tragic, and all so repeatable elsewhere, period in the labor history of entire mankind.

Nile - Unas, Slayer Of The Gods

Huge fan of this band and epics like these set this band apart from others in the Brutal Death Metal genre. In Their Darkened Shrines is my favorite album of theirs.

Even the bonus tracks on Queen of Time are some of the best songs Amorphis have ever done.

Azrael - The Betrayers

Incredibly high-pitched voice. Quite an unusual voice for power metal but that's part of the charm of the song.

Listening to that Vastum/Spectral Voice split, which predictably slays.

Abythic - Afterwards Behind Beyond

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQkdSBWAZF4 (full album)

This albums so takes me back to my teen years, what fun it has been to listen to this for the past few days.

It really sounds like the death metal that was being made in the 80's, early 90's.

If you're looking for innovation and new sounds you won't find any of that here, but if you fancy a nostalgia trip back to the early days of death metal's existence without wanting to listen to the bands of old then this is the right album to do it.

and yet, despite all that, it still maintains a level of self identity where you know you're listening to a new band and didn't just went to pick a dusty record from the shelf

Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien

Trying to get into these guys. Only "No Surprises" and "Just" grabbed my attention so far, even though this song is solid too. "Creep" was boring to me, whereas "Paranoid Android" had some good parts, but my ears perceived it as a big mess. Maybe I'll get used to them, who knows.

Covenant - Planetarium

It's quite stark how different In Times Before the Light and Nexus Polaris are from each other. The former is a moody, atmospheric black metal record not unlike what Dimmu Borgir were doing around the same time, while the latter is a less weird, more metal older brother to what they would start doing once the name change to The Kovenant happened, while still having all the strange, cosmic keyboards and bizarre sci-fi pirate jaunting that wouldn't be out of place on an Arcturus album.

Kataklysm - Guillotine

There's a new album coming up. And for the life of me, I don't understand why I keep coming back to this band and check out their new material. This is bullshit of epic proportions. That inane syncopated "riff" almost had me on the ground, seizures and all. There's almost literally nothing here.

Celtic Frost - Eternal Summer

The riffs, the guitar tone, the unrelenting songwriting - this is a true monument of metal. Every fucking note essential. I could take this over almost any other extreme metal that came later.

I'm currently listening to Xibalba Itzaes' EP, Ah Tza! (2015). While the EP's length is noticeably short, the band performs a solid execution in composing a fast-paced, almost bombastic style of black metal. In short, I enjoy this EP, especially the song, "Dawn of Endless Horrors". I certainly plan on visiting their full-length album, Ah Dzam Poop Ek (1994).

Paradox- Tales of the Weird.

I think this has grown to be my favorite Paradox full-length. The band finds a perfect balancing point right in between that post-2000 Kreator/Destruction thrashing and more melodic euro-metal à la Helloween and Gamma Ray. The straightforward bangers like "Slashdead" and "Brutalized" are great, but the epics like the title track and the masterfully intricate "Brainwashed" are really where it's at.
