When Bitter Spring Sleeps - "CosmiCathedraLumination" from Star-Thrown

Reminds me of Gregorian chant set in the loneliness of outer space.

Bloodbath - "Eaten"

The slow, heavy chugging riffs and mid-paced tempo perfectly complements the stomach-churning lyrical theme which was inspired by true to life events.

Metallica - "Orion"

I miss the days when Metallica would include an instrumental on their albums. This part of their albums would be a great time to just take in the music without singing along to a chorus or verse.

Manilla Road - "Conqueror"

Trying to settle on where the new album places on my year end list for best metal albums. I'm a huge Manilla Road fan, and the new album has a few standouts like this one for me, so it'll probably place high!

Orden Ogan - Ravenhead

I only got into the band in last summer. Been listening to all albums except the debut and the newest one (which I'm waiting in a package with something to be released later).

I sense the band did not really manage to go further with this one. There's some really cool stuff in here, but generally this does feel a bit generic from the band. But at least they are easily recognizable! Hmmm...

Suidakra - Gilded Oars

I'm liking this more than expected: the ultra-harmonized guitars here are done more tastefully than in most of the bands of their kind and the celtic influence works really well

Can't stand this kind of vocals tough :(

Let's keep hope.

(2016) Borknagar - Winter Thrice and (2017) Cannibal Corpse - Red Before Black on my way to work.
Not bad and nothing special.

Pagan Altar - The Room of Shadows (2017)

Not as heavy as I was expecting. NWOBHM reformed band re-recorded old songs, which never got released at the time, after Terry Jones' death.

Manowar - The Lord of Steel

Bought it. It's not that bad. I actually like listening to this... this flawed Manowar album.

Still working on my 2017 list. Enjoyed this one when it came out but it's nothing special just kinda more of the same.

Is the new Iced Earth worth checking out then? I was a huge fan of Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked this Way Comes, but then they came out with The Glorious Burden and those seriously awful "Something Wicked" concept albums.

I'd be really excited if they've returned to form!

It's a 7/10. A lot better than their last album. Check out Black Flag and Clear the Way. Great songs. The stuff with Stu Block is either ok or bad but this was pretty good.

Sarcofagus - Die to Win (from Envoy of Death)

Sounds like '79 Manilla Road with a Finnish twist. Sounds like The Hand of Doom on an acid trip. Manages to sound like both the US and UK Legend. I can't recommend this album enough for anyone who is possessed by late 70s heavy metal. Killer riffing, ambitious song-writing, heavy metal anthems (Insane Rebel), and those loopy guitar freak-out solos. Got damn!

Renascent - Demon's Quest

Solid symphonic death metal. This EP is a little rougher/less-polished than their later output but it's still really good.

Incorruptible ended up on my year's end top 10, just because it's so damn catchy it ended up becoming one of my most spun discs. Had they exchanged The Veil and Brothers for heavier tunes it would have been their best since Glorious Burden.

NP: Odious - For the Unknown is Horrid

A whackload of cool riffs on Mirror of Vibrations, and the ethnic/folk component is worked into the mix really well. This album rocks.

Cavalera Conspiracy - Psychosis (2017)

First listen and I like it way better than Pandemonium. Needs a few more plays but it's loud & heavy.

Amorphis- Privilege of Evil

They weren't half bad at proper death metal.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Superhero Jagganath

If this album had more songs like this and the opener, it might've had a shot at making it into my Top 10. Oh well~

Nice! This is pretty good. Last I heard from this band they were doing really raw black metal drenched behind field recordings and ambient noises. It was cool in certain settings, but nothing that grabbed me. This track on the other hand, was pretty immense. I'll have to check out the album.

NP: Night Raids - Servants of the Scab Lord
Extremely competent, if not fairly generic blackened crust. Fun stuff to bang the ol' noggin to.

Martyr - Invisible Touch (from Darkness at Time's Edge)

Unbelievable track. Their first two albums are flawless. This tune has one particular swirling riff that just underpins the entire affair with so much majesty.

Tad Morose - Forlorn

This is a badass slice of power metal. Hope whatever they're working on now is even better. They deserve to be more recognized than they are.

Rotting Kingdom - Adrift in a Sea of Souls

Solid death/doom from Kentucky. Reminds me of Anhedonist, and I actually prefer this to the new Spectral Voice.

Gevurah - Hallelujah! (2016)

Pleasantly surprised by the Quebecois black metal scene with this and theCantique Lépreux album being of such high quality! Good stuff.
